Tim,
Llangyniew and Llanfair Caereinion are two villages that feature greatly in my family tree. However I have not found a match with all these additional names in your ancestry. I am going to forward all the details to two of my cousins who will almost certainly know how your family links with ours. Please email me at graham.tucker@bankofengland.co.uk and we can discuss this further. Kind regards, Graham.

Thanks Graham, it would be great to be able to link into your tree! I've had a hunt and have found that my Mum has done some work looking into this and i can report as follows:

My Grandmother Evelyn Roberts (nee Jehu) (born 11/02/1909) was the eldest daughter of Edmund Llewellyn Jehu (born 18/11/1884 in Llangyniew, Llanfair Caereinion) and Minnie Davies (born 20/11/1886). Evelyn had two syblings - Walter Edmund Jehu and Dorothy May Jehu.

Edmund Llewellyn Jehu was, i think, one of ten children! David Richard, Margaret Alice, Stanley, Elizabeth Ann, Percival, Sarah Jane, George Edgar, Mary Emily and Florence May.

I beleive Edmunds father was also Edmund Jehu (born in 1856) married to Alice Jones (born 12/08/1859). If its any help this Edmund could have been son of Evan Jehu (born 17/01/1826)

This is where my infomation ends! I hope this can link in somewhere to you tree.

Thanks for replying

Tim

Tim,

The 'Jehu' family is huge and some branches have been traced back to 1550. I have 400 Jehu's in my tree but it does not include your grandparents. My family was mainly based in Montgomeryshire and Shropshire, so I expect that there is a link with your Evelyn Jehu a few generations back. Are you able to provide names of her parents and grandparents? Kind regards, Graham.

Hello all, I'm looking into the Jehu family as my grandmother's was Evelyn Roberts (nee Jehu). My mother has one diabled brother and no other family remaining in Shropshire where she was born. I thought as a nice 60th birthday present i could trace some of her family back through the tree, and as i now carry the Jehu name (as a second name) i would like to discover more. unfortauntely i have very little to go one apart from that my Grandmother Evelyn Jehu married my Grand father Mr Roberts (who i never knew) and they lived in Weston Rhyn, near Owestry. If anyone could help or pass on some info i would be very grateful!

Tim

Many thanks for your response. I would be most interested to see your family tree - I agree that we seem to have Jehu ancestors in common. Afraid I've been very lazy and haven't entered many details in the Ancestry.Com family tree but I have a detailed tree that I can send you as a Gedcom file, a JPEG file or whatever is most convenient.
Sorry that I got Leo Derrick-Jehu's name the wrong way round (!). Is the 'Walter' to whom you refer the Jehu who lived in Florida? I was briefly in touch with him in the 1980s.

I look forward to hearing from you: when I get your details we should be able to work out our relationship: probably something like fifth cousins twice removed!!

Best Wishes.

Kenneth - Your ancestry must run very close to mine. I obtained most of the early information from two cousins of mine who researched all of Leo Jehu's work with Walter Jehu (1905- 1981). I would love to hear from you, especially any information about the early Jehu's. Please send me your email address and I will invite you to view my tree titled 'Jehu Family Tree 1'. Kind regards Graham.

Interested to hear of your Jehu ancestry. Through my mother, who was a Jehu from the Carno branch, I can trace my ancestry back as far as Hugh Jehu (circa 1732 - 1785) of Llanwnog, who was my 5x greatgrandfather. I assume you know of the Jehu Genealogy and commentary deposited by Derek Leo-Jehu in the National Library of Wales in the 1970s and which traces all known lines of descent from Jehu ap Richard (born circa 1585/90). His Will of 1647 and other family documents are held at the NLW, where I understand there are also other early Jehu Wills. Best Wishes, Kenneth John Jehu Milton

My mother was Evelyn Jehu and her father was William Jehu (b Dec 1888 - d 1920). I can trace my line back through the following Jehu's :- Thomas (b 1840 Bridgnorth Shropshire), Thomas (b 1812 Cleobury North, Shropshire). Thomas (b. 1781 Llanfair Caerinion). Thomas (b 1753 Llanfair Caerinion). David (b. 1686 Llnallugan). David (b. 1686 Llanfair Caerinion). Morris (b. 1654 Llanfair Caerinion). and my 8 X Great Grandfather was Hugh Jehu (b.1623 Llangyniew died 1690 at Llanfair Caerinion). I would like to find out if they all descend from your Thomas Jehu from Llanfair Caerinion. Or maybe Hugh was Thomas's brother?

Hi Patrick:

I've just discovered that I descend from a Jehu family that immigrated from Wales to Wisconsin (USA) in 1842. Names of those born in Wales and who immigrated at this time include Thomas E. Jehu (b. abt. 1780) and wife Elizabeth, Hugh Jehu (b. abt. 1800) and wife Sarah (b. abt 1802), and Thomas D. Jehu (b. 1825). A message posted on this board indicates that Thomas D. Jehu (the younger) was born in "Montgomeryshire, Wales" in 1825.

Recognizing that it's probably a long shot, I'm wondering if you or your sister can make a connection and/or tell me more (or where I can find more) about the Jehu family roots in Wales.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Ted Hine
tedhine [at] sprynet [dotcom]
Louisville, Colorado, USA

Jehu theater in Jefferson County, PA ca. 1920

In some family photos, I found a photo taken of several people, perhaps employees, in front of a theater. (The film that is advertised is one from 1920 called "the Kentucky Colonel.") A handwritten label on the back says "Grandpa Jehu theater in Pennsylvania."

My grandfather's grandfather was Richard Jehu (b. 1840s-d. 1919), who lived in Sykesville, Pa. I've never encountered any other evidence he was involved in a theater. Does anyone have information about this?
We have 2 Thomas Jehu's in our ancestory, both from Wales. He was born in 1853 in Llanwnnog (not sure how to spell) Wales, his son Thomas Jehu married Martha Williams in 1873 in Newtown, dont have birth date for him. He had a son John William Jehu in Newtown 22/6/1876 who married Sarah Alice John on Nov 1900. He died in Bridgend Wales in Nov 1956. Is this the same family?....I believe all the Jehu's came from one line only, My grandmother on my mothers side was a Jehu. Alice Anne Jehu born 30/8/1909 and married Samuel Charles Shakespear Cooke on 7/12/1938.

Mrs. C. C. JEHU d. 12 May 1893 - Kansas City, KS

"The Kansas City Journal" (Missouri) Saturday, May 13, 1893

INSTANTLY KILLED.

Run Over by an Electric Car While Going to a Drug Store.

Mrs. C. C. JEHU, residing at Sixteenth street and "L" road, Kansas City, Kas., was run over and killed by an east bound electric car a short distance from her residence about 10 o'clock last night. Mrs. JEHU started from her home to go to a drug store at the corner of Thirteenth street to make some purchases. The walking between the rails was better than on the sidewalks, and she chose that route. When near Fifteenth street she saw a car approaching and stepped on to the other track to let it pass, just in time to be struck by an east bound car coming from Chelsea park.

She was thrown down and dragged for a distance of over 200 feet before Motorman HUBBARD succeeded in stopping the car. She was dead when picked up and her body was badly mutilated.

Mrs. JEHU was 37 years old and was the wife of D. B. JEHU, who conducts a grocery store at Sixteenth and the "L" road. She had one child 6 years old.

An inquest will be held this morning, after which the body will be sent to Stafford, Kas., for burial.

(I have no connection with this family.)
neirbo

Re: finding infro on the jehu family

I don't know if you're still looking for this information, but I have a photocopied chart prepared in the 1970s by a Mr. Walter Jehu in Florida that includes a John Jehu (b. Jun. 1844 in Penegoes, Wales, d. 8 Feb. 1887 Scranton, Pa.) who married Catherine Morgan (b. 1846, d. 28 Oct. 1904 Scranton, Pa.) on 28 Jan 1865 at Merthyr Tydfil, Wales.

It lists five children:

1) Mary Ann Jehu, b. 2 May 1867
2) John Morgan Jehu, b. Sep 1873
3) Jane "Jennie" Jehu, b. 13 Mar 1878
4) Evan Jehu, b. 1883
5) Thomas David Jehu, b. 7 July 1886

This chart shows the first three children as being born in Wales.

If you e-mail me at mark.branch@yale.edu and include your postal address, I'll send you a copy of the chart. It has further information on John and Catherine's descendants and those of John's brothers and sisters.

Re: Margaret JEHU

I have some information on John George Branch (usually called George) and Margaret Jehu. He was a son of Lancelot Branch (b. Staindrop, England, 1836, d. Pa. 1907) and Elizabeth Charlton). George was born in 1872 in Somerset, Pa., and died in Horatio, Pa. in 1940. Margaret was born in 1877 in Sykesville, Pa. and died in 1971, I think. I have more precise dates and details if you want them, along with info on George and Margaret's descendants. E-mail me at mark.branch@yale.edu.

Thomas Jehu's family

I have a family tree from an unknown source that includes your Thomas Jehu. (The spouse and children match up, as do the dates.) According to this document, Thomas was born in Scranton, PA, on October 6, 1879. Margaret Thomas, it says, was born 10/7/1878 in Pontypridd (sp?) Wales, and they were married 6/8/1898 in Plymouth, PA. Thomas died 6/19/1937, Margaret 3/23/53, and they are buried in Fern Knoll Cemetery in Dallas PA.

Thomas was a son of Jehu Jehu (b. 2/5/1842 in Darowen, Wales, died 12/22/1919) and Margaret Roberts (B. 1/2/1842, d. 7/25/03). They were married 9/28/1861 in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, and are buried in Scranton's Washburn St. Cemetery.

Jehu was a son of another Jehu Jehu (b. 2/3/1813 in Darowen, d. 5/13/1864 Merthyr Tydfil) and Mary Jervis (b. 1815, d. 1/7/1865 Merthyr Tydfil). Their seven chuildren all emigrated to America after their deaths.

Jehu Jehu (1813-1864) was a som of yet another Jehu Jehu, about whom nothing else is said, but his wife Mary died 7/5/1844 in Penegoes, Wales, at age 74.

I have no idea where this information came from or how accurate it is, but the detail makes it easier to follow up if you want to (I haven't). My great-great-grandfather was a brother to Jehu Jehu (1842-1919).

Hope this helps.
