I realize that the Weems information is not yur family. However, you do have the persons that I have been searching for listed and I have been unable to find them anywhere. John and wife America Weems. They had two daughters, Della (Dilla) and Millie. If you could point me in any direction, I would certainly appreciate your help. Could this possibly be A.L. Roberts and John Weems, which you show as married in the same county in Alabama as America Weems was last shown? Thank you so very much.

One of my father's aunts was born a Gilliland (Johnnie Marshall Gilliland, b. 8 Oct 1881, d. 11 Aug 1976). Her mother was a Jelks, and here's where I run into conflicting info. Aunt Johnnie's father was John W. Gilliland (b. ~1851, d. 1891, just a few months before Johnnie was born). Her mother died when Johnnie was about 10. According to one legal paper, one that considered guardianship for Johnnie, identifed her as the daughter of Ruth Gilliland; Ruth purportedly was a Jelks. Another source (a descendant) identified her mother as Rebecca (Betty) Jelks. The 1880 census (the family was in Woodruff County, Arkansas)lists John's household included only John and his wife Ruth; Johnnie hadn't been born yet.

Aunt Johnnie told me in a letter, though, that she had "except for a half sister and two half brothers, an uncle, and two half Aunts, I had no one close to me"

So the question is, who are these sibs, and who is their mother?

Charles Napoleon Jelks, son of Robert Jelks of Edgecombe County NC and Russell county Ala served in Co E 51st Ala Cav. I have copies of his pension papers. Copies of Letters from the Duke Library of Louisa Jelks Sills letters and a few other bits. I have added a little to Harvey Jelks tree.

MY gr gr grandftather, Mose(s) Robertson married Lucinda (Cinda) Jelks 12/26/1868 in Haywood County. Lucinda passed away and their children may have been raised by her family and his family. They are listed iin the 1870 Haywood County census. I am trying to locate their children. I have names, but need to look through some notes. I'm also interested in the Jelks family. My father used to mention Jelks kin (I think in some instances Jelks became a given name), but I don't have anything on the connections.
The Jimerson family (my father's- -- Will and Addie Patterson Jimerson) lived in Woodruff county, Ar in the latter part of the 19th century and early part of the 20th.

Would appreciate clues.

I would like to know of any connection between Kinchen Jelks and Ann E. Jelks (she married Zachariah Scarborough on April 20, 1840 in Southampton Co., Virginia). Kinchen Jelks was listed on her marriage bond but no relationship was given.
From Wills I have the relation of Pricilla Jelks, Kinchen Jelks and Benjamin Jelks as siblings. I have Kinchen Jelks married Polly Ellis on March 12, 1798 in Southampton Co., Virginia. Their children where Joseph A. Jelks (died April 06, 1865, "killed in battle" Dinwiddie Co., VA) Nathaniel T. Jelks, Pricilla Jelks, Mary Jelks, Lucy A. Jelks, James K. Jelks and William R. Jelks (died Sept. 01, 1862 of pneumonia in Southampton Co.,VA). I appreciate any information.

I am searching for her parents, family members, etc. She later married William Edward Applewhite of Southampton County, Virginia. I assume that they moved to Richmond, VA as they are both buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Richmond, VA...

Would it be possible that our grandfather, Nathaniel Jelks, could have been born around 1842.

One Nathaniel T. Jelks appears on the ancestry.com seach engine. This Nathaniel, however, is the son of Kinchen Jelks. No mention is made of his wife, but he was born in Southampton County, VA.
