I live in Dyersburg, TN. My father was Peter C. Cornelius Jelsma, his mother was a De Young, his father was Gerrit Jelsma. He was the youngest child and was born in Marion, Iowa, died in Cushing, Okla. at the age of 50 yrs. of age. Our family did go to Nebraska before they moved to help develop the territory for Oklahoma to become a state. Egbert Jelsma had two sons, and they were Peter and Gerrit, they were the begining of our family, I just learned and they were in Nebraska.
Now, Lawrence Jelsma, also lived in Guthrie, Okla.and he was my grandfather's brother, he was the treasurer of Guthrie and they named a football stadium in Guthrie, Okla. to honor him. It is still called "The Jelsma Football Stadium," listed on the website of the state of Oklahoma's as 13th historic site, and a very well built stadiums, etc. It is the 87th listed on the website of Guthrie, Okla. website.
I am Mary Jane Bright, I go by Janey and Marie Jelsma Shoenhair was my father's older sister. She had two children and lived in Stockton, CA. Her husband was a farmer of cotton there. My father was the youngest of 5 children and was raised in Guthrie, Okla., his mother was a De Young. Their are several Peter's in our family so it is confusing and Lawrence's, etc.
I would like to know you and where are you, etc. You are my relative if you are a Jelsma, a De young, even a Paas.
