I am looking for any information on this family. In the TN 1850 census the family was listed: Henry age 50 b. NC; Mary age 35 b. NC, Henry age 18 b. TN, James age 16, b.TN,
Martha age 12, b. TN, John age 9, B.TN,
Benjamin age 5, b. TN and Jesse age 2, b. TN.
Henry died in 1853 and is buried in a Walnut
Grove Cem. - Obion Co., Mary his wife and one
other JW Jenkins.
Any information on this Jenkins line would
be very much appreciated.

I'm beginning my search for my father's family. All I know is that his mother was "black dutch" which seems to be a euphemism for a lot of things. My grandmother, Mancie Ann Taylor Jones Jenkins was born 3-8-1880 near Nashville. On 2-1-1901, she met and married John William Jenkins (7-5-1862 to 8-20-1941)in Sherman, Texas. This union had eight children: Burley (11-1-1901 to 8-31-1902); Zetta Belle (2-3-1903 to 1998); Murl and Earl (9-15-1905) Elzie Ross (2-7-1910 to 4-15-1999); Dolly Mae (2-20-1914 to 3-14-1914); James Leo (9-08-1918) Agnes (2-1-1920). I'm told that my grandmother (Mancie) was the only child of James Matthew Jones (12-22-1860 to 1940) and Mattie Taylor (6-18-1867 to 1890). Mancie lived with her grandmother (Nancy Taylor) near Nashville, Tn. until 1898 when her father, James Matthew Jones having married Rosie Daniels in 1894 in or near Dallas Texas, retrieved her from Tn. and moved her to Texas and later Durant, Oklahoma. I'm told that John William Jenkins' father was killed in the civil war. Does this information match that of anyone else out there?

Apparantly the name John William Jenkins was very popular. He is on my tree as well, and my father in law refers to us as black dutch.(I am married into the Jenkins fam.) I am searching as far back as I can to find who this man was married to.

Thanks for your message about your interest in the Jenkins/Black Dutch history. I'm not much farther along in my tracking down of ancesters than I was when I posted the message. So far, the Melungeon literature seems to hold the most promise, but still, it's slow going.
