Florence Catherine (Hersperger) Jensen, age 92, formerly of 612 Cherry Street, Waterford, died Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri. She had lived in Overland Park, Kansas, for the past three years.
Born in Erie,Pa on January 29, 1920,
she was a daughter of the late Norman and Catherine (Walsh) Hersperger. During her time in Waterford, she was a line worker at Troyer Farms. She enjoyed walking every day in Waterford with her special friend, Maxine Hibbard. When she moved to Kansas, she continued her walking routine with friends and neighbors in her apartment complex. Florence was many things to many people, including Mother, Grammie, GG, Aunt Flossie and Flo. She treasured her time with her family and friends, and always looked forward to being with them. Among Florence's many loves were music and dancing. Often, when she heard a tune that she liked, she would quietly hum along with the music. After their retirement, Florence and her husband Louie spent winters in Osteen, Florida. Upon Louie's death, Florence continued to spend winters away from Erie, with her son and his family in Kansas, and with her sister, brother and niece in Claremont, Calif. Florence was a member of the Danish Sisterhood of America, and Sommer LYST Club. In addition to her parents and husband, Louis, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Crane, and a brother, Norman (Jake) Hersperger, along with many sisters and brothers-in-law. Survivors include a son, Norman Jensen, wife Jean, of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren, Brett Jensen, of Shawnee, Kan., and Marie Christian, of Manhattan, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Jared and Madison Jensen, of Shawnee, Kan., and Porter Christian, of Manhattan, Kan.; a sister, Jean Lawson, of Claremont, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Johanna McGavern and Joyce Jensen, of Erie; and many nieces and nephews. Florence will be greatly missed and remembered lovingly by her family and friends. Friends may call at Brugger Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m., and may attend a Mass of Christian Burial Monday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10 o'clock .
