Obituary of Clarissa Harley Jane Jerkins 1828-1913
Married Middleton Rogers Mrs. Clara Rogers, sister of Mrs. McEwen, died in Eustis early Saturday morning, April 19, at the home of her daughter, MNrs Susan Hancock, and was laid to rest by the side of her mother in the Ponceannah Cemetary on Sunday April 20, 1913 at 11 am. Reverend Daniel Palmer officiated at the funeral.
Mrs. Rogers came to this area from Georgia in 1840 and was one of the pioneer settlers of this section. Left the area many years ago, it was here she raised her family of eight children and resided until the last one had married and left the paternal roof, when she was persuaded to sell the old home and live with the children.
At an early age, she united with the Baptist church, was a faithful and consistant member and led a true Christian life. she as suffered more or less with poor health for the past ten years, with a wiry consititution, which is characteristic of the family, she never------.
While visiting her daughter at Tampa a few weeks ago, she contracted a cold which resulted in pleurisy and it was feared that at the advanced age of eighty-five years, she would never again leave her bed. But since it had been her request that she be laid by the side of her mother, it is such that this thought and the desire to be her last hours near her old home folks, gave her the strength to make the journey from Tampa, which she made about ten days ago. Soon after reaching her daughter's at Eustis, she bagan to decline and soon passed quietly away like a tired child dropping off to sleep.
She is survived by four sons, three daughters, and more than one hundred grandchildren.John P, William M. Mary Elizabeth, Wilson, Susan, Harriet, Emma, Middleton D. Mrs. Hancock and family of eustis, Mr. Wm. Rogers and Mrs. Drew and children of Tampa, and Mrs. I...and children of Miami: children and grandchildren of the deceased accompanied the remains from Eustis
