Death of John H. Jerrom
The announcement of the death of Mr John Hooley Jerrom, which occurred at his home, 33 Pitt Street on Friday morning last, May 25th, came as a distinct shock to the many friends of the family in town and vicinity, as many were unaware that Mr. Jerrom had been ill. Mr. Jerrom had been confined to his home for only a little over a week. The late Mr. Jerrom was born in Rockingham, Northampton, England, on April 5th, 1869, and had therefore just passed his 59th year. He was a son of the late Jabez Jerrom, of Rockingham, England, and his wife Mary Masom. Since his arrival in CORNWALL 35 years ago he filled the position of clerk in the employ of Mr. Joseph Hessell, and his geniality and kindly nature and readiness to serve both his employer and the patrons of the shop faithfully won for him a warm place in the hearts of all with whom he had dealings. Outside his business connection Mr. Jerrom was strictly a home man, and his pleasant disposition and kindly greeting for acquaintances endeared him to all with whom he came in conact, and the announcement of his passing was received with the most profound regret by the entire community.
He is surivived by his wife, who, before her marriage was Miss Alexandrina Lewis, of CORNWALL. He also leaves to mourn his loss a son and daughter, Mr. Cyril L. Jerrom, M.E., lately with the Cerro de Pasco Copper Corporation, Peru, South America, and Miss Winifred M. Jerrom, of the teaching staff of the CORNWALL Public School. Mr. Jerrom is also survived by 4 brothers; Rev. Henry Jerrom, MAA., Cyril Jerrom, and a sister Eleanor all of Yardley, England; Leonard Jerrom of Bournemouth England; Clement Jerrom of London, England, previously of the staff of the Technical School, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, May 27th from his late residence to Trinity church and Woodlawn cemetery, the service being conducted by the Rev. A.D. Floyde, Rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd, in the absence through illness of the Rev. Cannon Netten, MAA., Rector of Trinity Church. The cortege was one of the largest seen in CORNWALL for some time, showing the high regard in which the deceased was held and the sympathy felt at his passing. The members of Lodge Victoria No. 12, Sons of England Benevolent Society, of which deceased was a member, attended the funeral in a body. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Joseph Hessell, J.H. Warrington, John Sugden, C.W. Kyte, A.D. Snetsinger and Royal Baker. Among friends present from a distance were Mr. Wm. Currie of Outremont, Que.; Mr. and Mrs. D.
