Ruth Wilmajean Jessee Collins Young Wade, was born August 24, 1935, the daughter of the late Edward and Millie Sparks Jessee of Metcalfe County, KY, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 3:40pmCT at Summit Manor after a long illness, at the age of 74 years and 22 days.

She was preceded in death by three husbands: Joe Collins Sr. August 23, 1977; Hayden Young, and Raymond Wade; and by two children, Kirk Douglas Collins on January 16, 1956, and an infant daughter in 1958. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren Crystal Gayle Collins and Kai Edwin Bailey and by one brother, Eulis Jessee and by one sister, Kizzie Gilpin. She is survived by the following:
Two sons: Joe Collins Jr. and wife Norma, and Gregory D. Collins and wife Verdie, all of Columbia, KY

One daughter: Pamela Bailey, Columbia, KY

Three step daughters: Dallie Coffey and husband Roger, Columbia, KY; Teresa Milby and husband Mendel of Greensburg, KY; and Debbie Coffey and husband Timmy of Columbia, KY

Two brothers: John Jessee and wife Barbara, and Charles Jessee and wife Bobbie, Louisville, KY

Two sisters: Arleen Jessee, and Edra Nell "Bobbie" Collins and husband James, all of Columbia, KY

Eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and was a retired machine operator at Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville, Kentucky

The funeral service for Ruth Wilmajean Jessee Collins Young Wade, 74, a resident of Summit Manor Health and Rehab Center in Columbia, KY, formerly of Cane Valley, KY, will be Friday, September 18, 2009 at 1:00pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Kenny Jessee the officiating clergy.

Interment in the Jessee Cemetery in Metcalfe Co., KY.

The family request visiting after 4:00pmCT on Thursday at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

-He grew up on a farm and was educated in the common schools.
-In 1854, he moved to Bloomington (Douglas Co.) at the age of 16.
-He was active in the Free-state cause and served under the leadership of Col. Sam Walker and John Brown. He was often sent out on errands of explorations. Because he was young and seemed “green”, he avoided suspicion and was an excellent spy.
-He helped storm Fort Titus and also drove the notorious McGees from their rendezvous.
-When he first arrived in Lawrence, there were only sod houses and one frame building in the city.
-He went with Col. Walker to Brown County to meet Jim Lane on his way to Kansas with a large group of men. He also traveled to Lecompton after Free-state men held as prisoners by the boarder ruffians, assisted by he US troops. This resulted in the delivery of the men in Lawrence as stipulated in the agreement.
-Muster Roll of Capt. Samuel Walker, Co. D, 2nd Reg., 1st Brigade, KS Volunteers
-This muster roll identified men who served in the Wakarusa War from Nov. 27 to Dec. 12, 1855. The 2nd Reg. was commanded by Col. C.K. Holliday and Co. D was recruited from the area around Bloomington, KS Territory.
-He enlisted on 7-8-1861, in Co. K, 8th IL Infantry and took parts in the engagements at Fort Donelson, Fort Henry, Pittsburg Landing, Champion Hills, Raymond, Jackson, MI, Vicksburg and Slocumb’s 6 days running fight and many skirmishes. He was discharged on 8-2-1864 with the rank of Sergeant.

Clarence Jessee, son of Nelson

I found a Clarence Jessee who passed away in 1991 but do not know for sure if this is the one I'm looking for. His mother and father were Nelson Jessee and Mamie Clark Jessee. Had a brother, Robert Nelson Jessee, who died in 2004 and sisters, Edna, Violet and Nellie. Nelson's parents were Benjamin and Nancy. Can anyone connect the Noel(l) family to this Jessee family?

Yes, I have been to the website. Actually, I found my husband's Great-uncle by going there. My husband's grandfather died 2 years before my husband was born and the only Jessee relatives he knows are his mother, and 2 aunts and his uncle.. He would love to get to know anyone else in his family.

My name is Rick and, I'm one of the James Fatony twins...I live in southern WV...Are you one of Florences children or how you kin to Sopia "Granny"? The only one living out of the eight children is Guy Jr. who is living in Myrtle Beach. Dad died in 84...I really miss going to Russell Co. and all the loved ones...I've always wondered about 2nd cousins on Granny's side of the family. Was aunt Francis named after somone on Granny's side? Francis"Cooper" Fatony Dad's sister..she died in 74.......She was a great lady...I talk to Peggy "her daughter' every now an then...My mother used to talk of Samuel Jessee said, he was a humble man. I guess that was during the time after Guy W. Fatony was killed in the mines and they had moved from Coreta WV back to Russell Co..Coeburn...My mother was raised in Derby, Appal. area..
Dad and my uncle Ed Smith (Virginia's husband) came to WV for work in the mines...Ed was also my mother's brother which. resulted in having double first cousins...Kathy (Laney) Ed and Genny's daughter lives about 20 minutes from me. We have a family renuion every 3ard Sat in July "Smith and Fatony reuion". Uncle Guy has a blast at the reunion, and always says the same thing each year. Are you wanting info on third generation of Sopia's offspring, or on Ray Cassler's? James Fatony Sr.. was my dad. All I know is Robby was the onlly child Ray and Marie had...first cousins we would be...lol..I was just reading killing some time and seen Sherry along with Sopia Fatony's name...HUMM? "Granny" was a great woman! The world would be a lot better place to live if, made up of Sopia Ellens.
Hope to get a reply from you. I would love to know who "Sherry" is.....

How ya doing? Are you looking for more info on Marie or whom? I know Ray had one brother in Ohio but, that's about the max of it. if so sorry.. I am a descendant of Guy Fatony his eldest son James...(Jim)... I'm one of the baby twins...lol..
Trish is my wife's name I'm using her e-mail addy. since all I do most of the time is read...I live in southern WV...40 miles south of Beckley...About an hour and a half from where Papaw was killed here in WV...he was killed in Coretta, behind the old school...Guy and Sopia and family lived about 5 minutes on toward Newhall and Amanotta WV...I'm curious to find out who you are and what ties you have with the Fatony"s......take care.........

I have tried for some time to locate information about the family of Samuel Jessee. He and both parents were born in Virginia. His birth was estimated in 1847. At some point he or both he and his parents moved to Indiana. He married Julia O'Herron in Marion County ( Indianapolis ) Indiana. He was a R.R. Engineer. Their children were Nellie, Nannie, Charlie, and David who was my Gr. Grandfather. They lived in Indianapolis and also Tere Haute, Indiana. The 1880 Census has Samuel as 33 years old. I would appreciate any help.
