Audra, My Great-Grandmother's Mother was named Anna Jilek and she was from the Bohemia area of the Czech Republic. Do you know who Anna Jilek Married? My great-grandmother's father was Josef Mocha and I wonder if our two families are related? My great-grandmother Anna Bauer nee: Mocha married Anton Bauer or Anton Bauerova and had 2 children in Kladno CZ before coming to the United states. My grandmother was Mary Beatrice Bauer (or Bauerova) and her brother Rudolph were born in CZ, and Anton & Anna's other 3 boys were born in the United States.(Josef, Andrew Albert, and James Adolf)(Spellings may be incorrect) - I recently heard they had shortened their name to Bauer when they came to the US and they were Bauerova in CZ.

I look forward to hearing from you - my email address is - isabellade68@yahoo.com.

Kindest Regards,
Beth Brown, Great Grea granddaughter of Anna Mocha nee: Jilek.

This photo is of a group of soldiers in France during WWII. The 3rd man from the left on the front row standing is my husband's grandfather James Sisko. I am so grateful to him for having written on the back of this photo the last name of every man....as follows:

**********************************
Rear Row. L.To.R.
Ratliff, Gudger, Redmon, Collins, Coffman, Brown, Bonza, Wilson
"Front. Row Standing"
Fries, Jilik, me [this would be James Sisko], Johnson, James, Burdette, Gibbons.
Sitting
Virrouso, Purdue, Olfano, Eppinger, Halor, Hunter, Dillon, Hancock, Prettitore.
Le Havre France
March 1945
**********************************************
I know James wrote down one man's name as Jilik, but he may have spelled it wrong. I don't know. Just thought I'd post it on this board just in case.
I certainly hope this helps bring life to the genealogical collection of all of the men in the photo. If you might know who any of these men are including Mr. Jilik, please contact me by replying or email. Thanks, Amber Harkins
I have a Jilek thread in my family history also beginning in Bohemia, Czech Republic. I don't recognize the names that you have in your family history, sorry I can't help. However, I can tell you where my relative Jake Jilek (later changed to Yelick) was from and maybe that will give a clue where to try to locate ancestors. Jake Jilek was orginally from the area known as Susice, very near the German border. This area was known for basket weaving and for making of a charcoal like substance, I also have relatives named Aschenbrenner from that area. Good luck Rebecca

Some helpful tips for your searching efforts...

Hi Jilek (and other variants) folks!

I have a few helpful tips for you if you're searching for your Jilek family roots:
-please complete your user profile on this site (many of you posted before it was required), it's free and can provide ways we can communicate with each other outside of public postings (I think?).
-check out Tom's site http://www.rodokmen.czweb.org/ - it's in Czech, but it offers a terrific view of how big our family really is. Thanks, Tom! It's a wonderful task you're doing for all of us in maintaining this site!
-use http://slovnik.seznam.cz/ to translate from Czech to English (perform a copy/paste...it's the best I've found so far).
-my Father told me (I presume it was handed down through generations) that there were two different Jilek families that came to the US, so check out Tom's site before you get too far ahead of yourself.

I'm also related to (great) Uncle Frank (changed the Americanized spelling to more accurately reflect the phonetic name). Please feel free to contact me.

A PERFECT WORLD OF DREAMS COME TRUE:
Had I not stumbled across this site (and others) in 2002 (and with Kathy Herzog's message - Thanks, Kathy!), I never would have travelled to the Czech Republic to meet my distant relatives and visit/tour my great-great-great (might be one more "great" in there?) Grandfather's home in the village of Stritez, in the Bohemian highlands, outside of Policka. It was peaceful, beautiful, and fantastic; I am SO endebted to my relatives there for a trip I'll never forget, a trip dreams are made of!

We know of at least 1 brother, Frank (Frantizek?) and one sister, Rosalie. Rosalie married Jan Mengler in Bohemia. Matias, the son, my great-grandfather, was born 1868. Frank was born 1871 and Rose was older (maybe 1865). We have pictures from Bohemia, but we don't know who everyone is.
Could any of these be relatives from nearby towns?
I have two original studio group photographs which include “Emma Jilek (married – Fritz)”, and I would like to get these back to family members. One photo is identified as having been taken in Chicago, IL in November, 1904; the other was taken about the same time.

I found Emma Jilek in the Chicago 1900 census, living with parents Joseph & Mary, with birth August 1882. The other names listed are Mary/Mamie Hippert (in both photos), Mrs. Clara B. Andrus (in both photos), Blanche Randolph and Edna Sparawk, and “Mildred Meyer (married – Levi” and “- Barbee, married – Woods” in the other.

If Emma (Jilek) Fritz is in your family, email me at margerice@prodigy.net.

We had a baptismal document from the "book of birth and baptismal records of the Dejsin parish in Shuhach" for Katerina Jilekova translated. It says she was born "at Shrastn, No. 8." Her maternal grandparents lived at "Chrast House #8 Plzen, Bohemia." I've read about Plzen in western Bohemia, but know little else about the geography of the region. Are Dejsin, Shuhach and Shrastn towns? Are the names Jilek and Jilekova the same? Katerina used the last name Jilek after coming to the United States.

I don't know if Jake was from there also or not. I also have an interesting newspaper article from Anna'a death where she had hidden money in a stocking under her bed.
Anna and Jake's daughter Mary married Joe Rouchka and Anna's older son Joseph Aschenbrenner had a daughter named Magdalena Aschenbrenner she married Pete Rouchka.
Magadlena and Pete were my great grandparents.
Better late than never!
I'm Lisa Jilek, daughter of Jerry Jilek, who was one of the sons to Jack Frank Jilek (my Grandfather, RIP), who was one of the sons of Joseph Jilek (my Great Grandfather, apparently). I'm anxious to find out more about our family. I've been running searches on Jilek every now and then but never ran across this site. When I read that Joseph had a son named Jack Frank born in 1910, I got a little excited, thinking "this might be it!" It was confirmed when I read that Jack's children were my father (Jerry), Judy, and Jim. I'd love to hook up with other Jilek folk, share family history (what little I know), and get to know my relatives. Please share whatever you can! Let me know if you need more details or confirmation of identity. My e-mail address is l.jilek@attbi.com.
Thanks,
Lisa
