Re: Jan Jindra of Levin or Horni, Bohemia

My great grandfather is Antone Wesely. His son, Joseph, married Anna Jindra. His daughter, Antonia, married John Jindra. The parents of these John and Anna Jindra are Vaculav (spelling?) Jindra and Katrina Sachl. Katrina came to Montgomery, Minnesota in the late 1800's. According in an obituary she married Jacob David as follows:Mrs. Katherine David.
Mrs. Katherine David of whose death mention was made last week died suddenly on Wednesday afternoon April 15th. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jos. Wesely in Waterville.

She had been visiting her daughter Mrs. Wesely at Waterville, and apparently was in good health. The family was away from the house at the time and on their return found her dead on the doorstep. Heart failure was the unmediate(sic) cause of her death. The deceased whose maiden name was Katherine Sache, was born in Levine, Bohemia, on Nov. 1st. 1841, she was married to Wencel Jindra who died 31 years ago. After her husbands death she came to this country settled on a farm in this township. In the spring of 1882 she married Jacob David who preceded her to the grave 8 years ago. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jos. Wesely, of Waterville, Mrs. Jacob Kaisersatt of Lonsdale and three sons, John Jindra of this city, Frank Jindra of Rice county and Jacob David of Farmington.

The remains were brought here from Waterville on last Thursday to the home of her son, John Jindra and the funeral services held from the Catholic church in this city on Good Friday afternoon. Rev. E. Polasek officiating, her remains laid to rest in the family lot in Calvary cemetery.

The Messenger joins with the many friends of the deceased in extending sympathy to her relatives.
Montgomery Messenger, Montgomery, MN - Apr 24, 1908

I am working on the Wesely ancestry. Note the two versions of Wesely/Wesley that have come into use in our family branches. I am thinking that Antone Wesely came from Michelsdorf Bohemia. I do not have documentation of that, however, many of the neighbors in this Waterville, MN, community came from that town.
Any information that you may have would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi from Croatia

I just wanted to say to my fellow Jindras as i dont get the chance to meet many people that go by that name here. There are only few families here in Croatia and i dont know any of them.
Though the name is very rare it is much spread all over the world. My great grandfather said that the name itslef comes from german "Heinrich" and was later changed in Czech version of Jindrich. They were pretty much settled in the wider area arround the city of Brno, also there is a town near Brno named Jindrihov Hradec which explains much.
I would be glad if any of you contact me about anything.
Sorry my first language isnt english but i think understood me :)
Cherice,
I have tried to find an acquaintance by the name of Cherice L Jindra for the past 2-3 yrs. I believe I found her sister, Robin, & called her number.
I talked to a young lady and gave her some info, but guessing she may only be a teenager I felt it not appropriate to ask her for personal info concerning her family. I hear too many sickos, are online looking with bad intentions, searching for young innocent kids.

I met Cherice at Akron University her 1st semester in 1978. My sister, Karen, was also attending Akron U. Some years later Cherice attended my sister's wedding and regretfully I only spoke briefly with her due to a set of circumstances.
If you can be of help I would be appreciative. My email is jpkunes@windstream.net.
Joe Kunes

Re: Jan Jindra of Levin or Horni, Bohemia - Clarification/Update

Further clarification, James Schokrl appears to have been Kate's father. Her second husband was Jacob David and it appears they were married between 1883 and 1885.

He was born approximately in 1839. Not only did Kate have 8 children of her own, Jacob had two as well. I'm guessing his first wife died between 1883 and 1885 and then he remarried.

They were living in New Prague, Le Sueur County, MN in the 1885 Census. Jacob may have died in 1917, I am not sure yet. Is anyone familiar with this family? Any help woud greatly be appreciated! Thank you!

I am descended from Mary Jindra (b. 1861). I believe her mother was Kate Jindra (according to the 1880 Census) and that her father was Vaclav, who died in Bohemia. The widow and her children then immigrated in 1879. The family settled in Montgomery, MN. Mary married Thomas Kopet in 1883.

Vaclav's parents were Jan Jindra and Katherine Pavek. Is anyone else familiar with this line?

Kate/Catherine remarried to a man named James Schokrl and died in Waterville, MN.

Thanks!!

Hi.
I'm Mary Jindra's grandson. Millie Blaha was my grand- mothers sister. She was married to John Jindra. They had
3 children together Emily, Henrietta and John. Henrietta
and Emily never married, and John Jindra married Barbara Walston in 1950. They had 4 children myself, my brother Richard and sisters Katherine and Nancy. All of us have been married only once and we have eleven children between the four of us. Two of which are mine.

If you need more information please feel free to E-mail me.

Now how about some information on your side of the family.

Hope I helped.
Regards
John Jindra Jr
slowhand1952@sbcglobal.net
My mother's family (Rosecky) has close ties with a lady in her 90's named Marie Jindra. She is from Milwaukee, WI and remembers a lot about the Czech community on the southside of Milwaukee. She does not have a computer, but I would be happy to pass on any questions or information you may have for her. She has been very helpful in MY search for family and I would love to help her find out more about hers.
I am interested in Catherine Pavek's informtion. My family is from Ponedrazka in Bohemia (quite close to Bosilec). My great great great grandfather was Vaclav, and his father was Simon. I know Simon had numerous siblings, and Vaclav had some has well. I am related to Jindras from Lhota. Maria Jindra daugher of Martin Jindra, married Tomas Simek, and came to the United States. There daugter Mary married Martin Pavek, one of Vaclav's sons. The Simeks are also from Ponedrazka at time of immigration, but originally from Zablati. I am also related to an Elizabeth Sery from Sevetin who married a Vaclav Smisek (this is on my mother's side). If any of this looks hopeful let me know, and I hope to hear from you regarding Catherine.
Allan

I am related to those Jindra's through my Aunt Dorothy James. I am related to her thru my father, Ansel Cutlip Brady, whose mother was Cristena Madora Cutlip. So, I'm related on my father's side, but don't know for sure how, yet. I am just starting on family tree haven't got very far on my father's side at all. These are names I can remember from my childhood, altho an accident in 1971 wiped out the majority of my childhood. I remember going to Jindra's landing for a family reunion, and i remember getting mustard on a new outfit my mother made for me. That's about it....i can't even remember my James' cousins name, just that they lived in Phalanx Station. I can picture their houses (Aunt Dorothy's Ted Martha James) I was about 13 yrs old then and am now 54. If you want me to question my relatives who may remember for any family info..I will. Thanks for writing...Iris

They immigrated in 1874 from Milavo, town of Hlinsko, county Chrudim. Also immigrating were children Joseph H., Josefina, Adolf, and Mary who was born on the ship. In America Anna, Nella, Antoinette and Emil were born. They went to Colfax County, Nebraska and homesteaded there. I am trying to gather information of Josef and Josefka's parents and/or sibblings as well as any other information.

Dear Kim Beaudoin, Leesburg, VA
My father is Albert Jindra, he was born April 1, 1921. He is the oldest son of Thomas Jindra (who lived in Garrettsville, Ohio at the time of my fathers birth.) Thomas and Julia Jindra had eight children, Julia, Henrettia, Albert, Thomas, Daniel, Theodore, Richard, and William. Henrettia died sometime during childhood. The surviving children are Albert, Daniel, and William. I wish I could help you with your family search, but I'm afraid I don't have any information that could be of any help. Good Luck.
Sarah (Sally) Jindra Evans, Page, Arizona
