Debbie,
I've been a bit lax with my follow-up on this post, but wanted to get back to you. Pierre Lander/Therien(sp) was my great, great, great grandfather, I believe. I have very little information beyond Philomene Therien/Lander and her descendants, though. My line of the family follows Clara Ida Robarge/Roberge, one of Philomene's daughters. It sounds as if we may be able to fill in some of the holes in our respective family trees.

Tony

Thanks for the post. I'd like to exchange information with you. I have an ancestral record that an elder relative wrote down for me when I was in college. For Pierre and Angele the information I have says that there were five daughters and three sons I have the names of two sons and one daughter Peter Lander born in Burlington, Vermont 8/07/1847 d.4/30/1937 Burlington vt. marriedto sophia Martelle.
One daughter Philomen born Shelborne Rd. Burlington VT. 2/17/1844 married to useb robarge, 5/13/1862 born to them 8 children
charles lander married to jane. This is the line of the family I have the most information on. I know some of this information is slightly off as my great aunt was married to Leonard Landers and Leonard had passed away and this was what she could remember at the time.

This follows your other message, and is also delayed in getting a response. But, it pieces together more of the picture. It sounds as if Peter/Pierre and Angel/Angele are the same parents, depending on where we get our information. I didn't have the information on Peter/Pierre's or Angel/Angele's place of birth. Do you know where this information came from?

Looking forward to the continued sharing of information. I've got a lot of information about Philomene and Eusèbe's (b.February 15, 1841) descendents, if you're interested.

Tony

Debbie,

Thanks for your message and sorry for taking so long to reply! Yes, Philomene Lander/Thérien was my great great grandmother, on my father's side.

From what I can tell, most of the information that you mentioned is what I've got (except that I have the marriage year as being 1861). Thérien, according to my father is the French translation of Lander and was apparently used interchangably at some point.

From my records, Philomene was the daughter of Pierre Therien and Angele Bissonnette. I do not have any recorded siblings, although it's quite possible that there are more. My father and I are members of the Vermont French-Canadian Genealogical Society, and there are resources that we haven't tapped yet.

Also, there's a death date of 12/12/1943, which is something of family legend and, I believe, is documented somewhere in the Burlington Free Press records (or, at least, one of her landmark birthdays).

I hope this helps. Feel free to let me know if you need more information, or if you can share your connection to her, as well. It's always nice to find more connections.

Tony

Hello, I am not sure, but thus far on this list, the India connection would make some sense with my English Joachims. I am referencing mid 18th century, so I know at least from say 1745 or so , and in the registers as Joachim,
not sure if they went to India or not; but my ancestor did have
many brothers and sisters. If you have progressed at all,
I would be real curious what occupation your JOachim association was.

I live in New York with two boys and my husband of 14 years. Could you tell me anything about the history of our family - I really do not know much my mother and father got divorced when I was young and Charles died when I was in elementary school - Although, Marsha and that whole side of my family still see each-other and keep in touch - I don't know very much.

I really don't know much about the family history. I do know that my side changed their name to Jackowitz for a little while. My family tree is on Ancestry but I don't swear to the correctness of it. Most of what I have I gathered from family and the internet and by quessing that I had the right person. I did talk to Aunt Evelyn, (Paul, Charles, Morton's sister) a couple of times but didn't get much info from her. I wish I did have more infor, like when they came here, did they come as indivudals or a family, most of all which name. Good luck and keep in touch.
I am researching a branch of the Joachim's of Vermont. On the 1920 Chittenden Co., Burlington Ward 3, family 333 is this family:

Sutton, CHarles E, Head, 28, NY,NJ,NJ
Sutton, Clara E., wife, 38, VT, CAN, VT
Joachim, Franccis E, stepson, 15, VT,VT,VT
Joachim, Lucille E, stepdaughter, 14, VT,VT,VT
Joachim, Edmond A, stepson, 11, VT,VT,VT
Sutton, Alice A, daughter, 5, VT,NY,VT
Sutton, Roland R., son, 1 6/12, VT, NY, VT
Kirby, Raymond E, nephew, 21, VT,VT,VT
Robarge, Philomen, mother in law, 75 widowed, VT, CAN, VT

Raymond Kirby is my grandfather. His SS App shows William C. Kirby is his father, and Philomen Robarge is his mother.

Assumption time: Clara Joachim was a Kirby, married ? Joachim, either divorced or widowed, and married Charles E. Sutton. I have not been able to locate any siblings for Raymond, so can not even confirm Clara is his sister, quite an age difference.

Can you lend any light to this family?

Tony,
Upon closer study, Clara Sutton would have to be Raymond Kirby's aunt, therefore she would have been a Robarge or a Kirby originally. Or your theory that Charles had originally married a Kirby or maybe a Robarge. Joachim may just have been her prior marriage and not blood kin to the Robarge's.

I have Philomene Robarge's obituary and Edmund and Raymond are stated as grandsons, So she would not be your ggmother, she would be your gggmother. Raymond's mother was a Philomene Robarge married to William C. Kirby, evidently her mother was Philomene (maiden ?) married to a Robarge.

One source I have been unable to verify states Philomene Robarge Kirby's parents were Philomene Rivers, married to Joseph Roberge.

Feel free to contact me directly and I will send you what I have on the Kirby line so far.

Jan - cousins!

scruggsjan@aol.com

My grandfather was Joseph Joachim, he came from French descendents who migrated to the Caribbean French West Indies/Martinique and Guadeloupe in the late 1800's early 1900's and was of mixed origin (caucasian and negro). This is as far back as I can go. I know however that he was married to Marianne Jolly and had a sister who also leaved in the French West Indies.

He had 6 children I know of (all still alive) , Marie, Nellie, Victoria, Ruford, Maudrie and Cleo

I am at the very begining of mysearch and I would be grateful for any leads I can get.
