im looking for the origin of the last name joaquin the only thing i knoe is that my ancestors came from israel or spain they were runnin from something or some one cause they where killin the family so they were left 2 brothers that came to america one stayed in the USA and the other one went to mexico but i wanna know what really happend and the geneaology please contact me if have any info thanx

I am related to a Joseph Joaquin who moved from hawaii to the Hayward are of California. What is your grandmothers birthday? My info says he married a Mamie Cambra. I have joseph's birthday as Apr. 20 1902 and he died in July 12 1981. His father's name is Manuel Joaquin. I do not know what part of Portugal they are from. I'm sorry I don't know if this is who you are looking for.

I am Maria Burkhalter Joaquin Ronquillo, my mother is MIna Patricia Joaquin, My Grandfather was Francisco Gonzales Joaquin born in Mexico Pampanga in 1902. He Married Mercedes de Jesus y Verdotte in Manila. After that they moved to Baguio city where he was a mining engineer. He died in 1969. Does any of this ring a bell?

I am looking for any information about his grandfather. His father was Modesto Joaquin also of Pampanga.

Looking for information concerning the father of Michael Anthony Rhodes (Joaquin)
He was born 11/11/52 in Brooklyn NY. Father is unknown.
His mother is Vandalyah, her maiden name is Ford. There is no known history concerning her first husband. Michael's name was changed sometime late 50's early 60's when she remarried and the second husband adopted. Family rumors have it that she was a nurse working in the hospital where he was born. After she remarried she allegedly went back and changed the name on the birth certificate.
Another rumor has Michael making contact with his father sometime later in life 1 or 2 times. After that he supposedly has not seen him again.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am interested in knowing if the Joseph Jaoquin your a researching is also the Joseph Joaquin married to Hortensio Rebeiro.
They would have settled in CA, around the San Jose/Bay Area.
I have this branch coming from Portugal, but they may have actually imigrated from the Azores. Can you let me know?

The Joseph Joaquin I mention is noted in his son, Louis A. Joaquins Cert. of Death of 6/12/84 in Alameda County/CA., as coming from Portugal. This same son's mother's maiden name is Rebeiro, Hortensio-her first name. I have tried to look into Rebeiro and Joaquin on Ancestry.com but arrive at very little. I have even gone to the Portuguese message boards, and the San Jose Heritage Center(Portugal) and find some names back to the Azores, and some to Portugal. I will help all I can if you think there is info. I can share with you.
Likewise, will you send me information if you think it can aid in my research. If this Joseph Joaquin is the same one, and changed his name to Joe King...he would have had to be 84 years old when his son, Louis A. was born in 1914. Is this likely? I am working on Joseph Joaquins son: Louis A. Joaquin. Joseph Joaquin married to Hortensio Rebeiro, both from Portugal.
Louis Joaquin died: 6/84. He is buried at Holy Sepulchre in Hayward, CA.

SInce January, I have learned that my Joseph Joaquin had a name change.
His name was Canalles/Canalles(not sure on spelling). It seems it may have been from entry into the US that the change occured.
I am trying to find out more. I do a general search but I don't find much.
Do you possibly have Cannales in your lines as well as the Lucas, Betencourt and Rose and King?

My Joseph Joaquin(possible brother to Manuel) is said to have changed his last name from Canalles/Cannales to Joaquin once here in the US.

Manuel was born in 1846 in New Orleans and I do not know when he died. He was married To Bernadine Brandeweide (1850 - 9/23/1935) in New orleans on 3/30/1872. They had at least two children Wilhelmina (1881-1957) and Bernard(1885 - 1938)

Canelhas name change to Joaquin, or vice-versa.

Canelhas from 'Tras Os Montes', on the Spanish side of Portugal.

My grandmother was Hortense Joaquin Canelhas. She married a Joseph Joaquin? or Canelhas?. They immigrated to California by way of Hawaii, probably during the early 1900's. One or more children were born in Hawaii before they arrived in the Oaklnad Bay Area and settled in the San Leandro/San Lorenzo/Hayward area.

Hortense (Rabero) Joaquin Canelhas gave birth to at least 7 children. I am looking for any relative of the children if they have deceased.

I do not think that Canalles is im my side but since I can not fina anything yet, you never know.
When did your Joaquin come into the country.?
Did he have any brothers that came with him.

Do you know where your Joseph Joaquin is buried. Was he a catholic. My Joe was married to a MAry Rose and buried in the Mission San Jose Cemetary. The grave stone is now gone but once I find the recirds of the cemetary it will be easier. His wife was buried there and I assumme that he is there also. My mothers remembers the headstone. That cemetary and the one on the hill have mostly Portuguese buried there.
Do you know anything else. There is propbably a connection. Hhis wife that I am related to was a Rose, last name.

The Joseph Joaquin that I am related to changed his name to Joe King. HE came here during the Gold Rush and then went back to
the Azores. He came with a brother. I think that he was married 3 times. We don not have all the names but i have 2 wife's names .
I believe he was bn around 1830 and is buried at the Mission San Jose Cemetary. Please respond I would love to hear from you because there is most likely a connection.

In the VOters record of 1872. There is a Joseph and Manuel Joaquin . He was 25 yrs old and the time and was from Portugal and Manuel was 27 and also from Portugal.
I really think that that is your Joaquin. I will help you as I go because since we are looking for the same nationality and the same area we will probably run into the same names. I am also looking for Lucas, Betencourt, Rose, and King.
