I am from Germany.
My grandma was a Johannes (*1879) and I am looking for ancestors in the US, because a brother, a sister, an aunt and a cousin went to Nebraska and to Chicago.

There are lots of Johannes in Nebraska.

I have never heard about 'Dutch Germans'. My grandma came from a small village nearby Oldenburg in nothern Germany, that was not really Prussia at that time. The dutch border in the west is appr. 60 km away. I was told that her father was a 'Hollandgänger' that means he went to the Netherland (=Dutch people or Holländer) during summer. He worked there and cut peat.

I just read your e-mail for the first time today. Don't know why I didn't know about it or see it. Anyway, My great-great-grandfather, Johan Heinrich Freidrich Johansson (later Johannes), immigrated to America in 1858. He did have an older brother named Wilhelm Freidrich Carl. Could this be your Rev. Wilhelm Johannes?

My Anna Friederika Johannes was just a baby when her parents, Johan Heinrich Freidrich Johansson (changed to Johannes either right before or after immigration)and Johanna Maria (Mary) Friederica Esch,immigrated to New York in 1858. By 1860 they were living in Elk Grove Twp., Cook Co., IL. He had an older brother, Johan Freidrich Carl, who also immigrated to Cook Co., IL. His wife was Maria Dorothea Muntz.

My father in law was born in Bilaspur India. His name is Clive Charles Johannes and his parents were Noreen de Rozario and Denzil Augustine Johannes. Denzil and his father and brothers all worked on the railway. Clive's brother is called Bian Johannes

I am descended from Anna Barbara back thru John George. I have a death certificate of Fredrick that states parents names are John George Johannes and Christiana BESSEMER. I have not yet been able to clear up the descrency in the names.

The father is George Phillip H. Johannes, Sr. married to Catharina "Kate" Steinhauser. The Mary mentioned in the obituary is his second wife, Mary P. Domdera. Catherine Steinhauser is the mother of all eleven children.

Erhardt Johannes was born in 1824 in Bayreuth, Bavaria, where the Wagner festivals are now held. He emigrated to Missouri on a sailing vessel from Hamburg, Germany to New Orleans which encountered storms and took two months in crossing. They sailed up the Mississippi River in 1855 and took up a land grant in Benton Co, MO--Cole Camp.

I have Langhorst relatives that lived in Cincinnati in the 1930s. They were decended from Henry and Louisa Langhorst both born 1821 in Hanover Germany. I don't have any information before the 1821 Langhorst in Germany but have some from that line in Cincinnati, Ohio.

I have that Dr John George Johannes b 7-16-1829 Bavaria Germany married Babeth Eideloth, my Erhardt married a Agnes Eideloth. He died Ransome Kansas 3-22-1918. He married 12-7-1851 Logansport, IN. Babeth was b 10-2-1828 d Ransom, Ks 9-27-1905 both buried in Prairie City Cem. Dr John received his education in schools of
Germany and in 1849 he emigtated to the US first settling in Fort WAyne, IN where he atttended th Lutheran College, perfecting his English and studied Medicine with one of the Professors who taught Homeopathis Medicine. IN 1852 he moved to St. Louis, where he worked for 18 months then moved to Benton Co MO where he bought 80 acres of land. IN 1861 he went to Allen Co Ks and bought a farm, but soon returned to Benton Co MO to move his family but instead he volunteered in the Union Volenteer Militia and soon found himself taken part in the Battle of Cole CAmp on 8-19-1861 where he was severely wounded and taken prisoner. I have a Nicholas Johannes in my family-well not my direct family line but I have info on a Nicholas b Bavaria,Germany 12-26-1836 died in Nevada, Mo. Married to Catherine Rapp. He erected first business house in Rockville, Mo see Bates, Co History in 5-17-1878 and was a member of the board of trustees 1880-1881-1882. He and his wife were among the organizing members of the German Lutheran Church there in 1870. in Prairie City. Then he went to Rich Hill, MO and in 1808 I know for sure he owned the Johannes Hardware and Implement store in Nevada, MO Vernon Co. I have some info on his children. He was a brother to Erhardt Johannes and they were children to John George Johannes. Erhardt had a son George and his daughter Leona was my grandmother. Let me know if I can help.

Do you know anything about this Langhorst family in Cincinnati? My family was the Kemper & Kamp families from Ankum Germany. I know that in the 1930's they held a big family reunion at the Langhorst Farm in nearby Cincinnati. I believe the Langhorsts may have been dairy farmers, but I'm not sure. I know the families were good friends and I have photo's of the Kempers at this reunion picnic. This has made me curious about how the two families were connected and knew each other.
