Anna Marie Johaningmeyer & Christian Frederick Wilhelm Knost (William) were my grandparents. They had 5 children together; Caroline, Frederick, William Jr., Wilhelmina & Louis (my father). There was also a half-sister called Rose but we haven't been able to find out if she was William's or Anna's.
Anna's surname is spelled here according to the records at Spring Grove Cemetery here in Cincinnati. If anyone can tell me who William Knost's parents were I'd really appreciate it.

Norma, I am the possible decendant of Caroline Wilke and Rose's sister, Anna. There must have been another sister not listed on the 1870 Indiana Census that you referred to. Louise Johanningmeyer Nordman are buried in the same section of Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati. The Wilke's are possibly buried there also. I know it's been quite some time. I hope you are still working on this line. Why not E-mail me directly and I we can share details! Sue

Norma, Caroline & Frederick were my greatgrandparents, Frederick Jr, (from Cincinnati) my grandfather. I thought I had come to a dead end. For some reason I thought Rose may have been Caroline's daughter from a previous marriage. I will look in my notes. Frederick also went by the name William. I recently found some articles from a German-Cincinnati newpaper regarding this family but I will need to have it translated. I also have a wonderful picture that was sent to me by Albert's daughter (another sibling). They all had great hair! I will send you some info & a picute If you would like to E-mail me direct it's msrp1@sbcglobal.net. thanks, Sue

Finally a connection! I am a descendant of Rosina Johaningmeyer, daughter of Frederick and Caroline (Wilke). I found them in the 1870 Indiana Census. They had all daughters: Anna, Caroline, Rosina and Sophia. Rosina married Frederick Patemann around 1885 and they had 4 children one of which was my grandfather. I have a photo of Rosina and Frederick. She was quite a substantial looking woman.

Guessing this was in St. Louis or either Monroe, Randolph, St. Clair or Perry County in Illinois. Beautiful photograph. I'll try to do some census research to find male names.

Hi Sue,

I don't see anything in my family history that seems to fit. There is no reference to Anna Marie or a Knost or Wilke. Although Johanningsmeiers did settle in Southern Indiana.

There is one interesting similarity, but it isn't the same person.
There is an Anna Maria Sharlotte Johanning born in Germany in 1793. She may have used the name Johanningmeyer. She is the sister of Hans Herman Johanningsmeier whose children brought the name Johanningsmeier to America. I have no other information on her. She was born in Faulensiek, Germany and there is a web site that might have more information.

http://www.genealogienetz.de/reg/NRHE-WFA/lippe.html

Good Luck,
Cheryl
Hi,

I wondered if you could tell me anything about Herman Johanningsmeier b. about 1818 in Germany and passed away in Muscatine, IA, in 1881. He was married to a Wilhelmina (last name not known) b. 1828 in Germany, passed away in Muscatine, IA. As I understand it, Herman was a Doctor. They sponsored by GGG grandfather and his gamily to come to the United States. They arrived in Muscatine, IA in 1881; however, Herman passed away about three months before they arrived. Any help you could give me would be appreciated.

Hi Trisha,

I'm so glad you wrote. There is not much information on the Johanningsmeiers online yet. However, there is a book published recently
by Barbara (Johanningsmeier) Brake which has data on the family going back to Germany. I found Ronald and Mary with 6 children. There
is no information on Bradley. I'd love to get that information from you so we can keep the data current. Here is what we have:

Raymond Louis Simon Johanningsmeier, son of Sophia (Pieper) and Henry Johanningsmeier, was born 15 Mar 1924 in Freelandville, IN.
Raymond was married 15 Sept 1947 to Mary Katherine Trusty, daughter of Opal (bryant) and Willie Trusty. Mary was born 15 Jan 1930.
They reside in Martinsville, IN. Their children are
Joan Deloris born 19 Nov. 1947
Ricky Ray born 15 Jan 1949
Diana Lou born 30 Dec. 1953
Lana Jean born 14 Oct 1958
James Dean born 20 Nov 1959
Danny Lee born 8 Jan 1961

There is information on the marriages of Joan, Ricky, Diana, and Lana.

Does this look like the right family? If so, some of Bradley's family may know
mine because they grew up in southern IN, in Knox and Sullivan counties. I've been
to Freelandville several times.

I highly recommend the book (my aunt wrote it). You can find out more about it at
http://www.johanningsmeier.com.

Please write to me at clhpoole@yahoo.com and I can tell you more
and I hope you will tell me more. We also have started a web site
at MyFamily.com. I can send you instructions for accessing that site
once I have an e-mail address for you.

Thanks for writing,
Cheryl Huntington (daughter of Jean Ann Johanningsmeier)

Hi Debbie!

The Johanningmeier family (spelled without the "s") is not the same family as Johanningsmeier (spelled with the "s").

Everyone who spells the name Johanningsmeier with the "s" is a descendant of Hans Herman Johanningsmeier (1792-1872). We have documented many of his descendants.

It is possible (maybe even probable) that the two families were related to each other before the time of Hans Herman. If there is a relationship, we do not know where the connection is.

Barbara Brake

I have been looking at some public web sites
for family history and genealogy. There are
some that I am especially impressed with:

http://www.myfamily.com
http://www.familyhistory.com
http://www.ancestory.com

There is also http://www.rootsweb.com, but I
have not looked at it yet.

These sites have all of the features that we
talked about for a web page at the reunion.
This includes private space that is
accessible only to members, discussion
groups, places to archive pictures and
history, an online family tree, and a way
to set up online chats. The disadvantage to
these sites is the advertising. It gets
annoying and would be more so if you have a
slow connection to the internet.

My idea is to create a web page and
integrate some of the features of those
web sites so that we can do more things
online more quickly. I will talk more about
this as I work on the project.

Take a look at those sites and tell me what
you think.

Cheryl

Johanningsmeier

Hello Scott,

Someone has seen your message finally. I am
the daughter of a Johanningsmeier. How do
you tie into the Johanningsmeier family? I can give
you more information on the family and ancestory
if you are interested. My mother's family has
done a lot of research on this and has recently
published a book. We also had a family reunion
earlier this year. There will be another one in
P>4 years.

I am starting work to get
us on-line. I've been looking at myFamily.com,
ancestory.com and familyhistory.com to find
out what options there are. It looks very
exciting.

Where are you located? Most of the family
is in the Indiana/Illinois area, at least
that is where they settled and there are still
quite a few around there.

Please get in touch with me and let's exchange
information.

Cheers,
Cheryl
