Good morning Andrew,

Thank you for your reply. I do have a Marriage certificate, dated 17/06/1907, which states that; he was 20 years old, he was born in Liverpool and that his father was Olive Johanson (I beleive that the olive is the registras interpretation of Olaf). I have a birth certificate for Edwin Alfred John Johanson, dated 31/07/1883, which state that the fathers name is Olaf Martin Johanson, and a death certificate, dated 04/07/1942, giving his age as 57. As you can see none of the date add up, however I know that both the marriage and death certificate are that of my grandfather, I can only assume that the birth certificate is his and that he age may have been record incorrectly at the time of marriage and death? I have been told that my grandfather was from a wealthy shipping family and that my grandmother was their parlour maid, he was apparantly sent to America to get over her but that when he became of age he returned and married her. He was then disinherited. Not an easy task is it, what do you think?

Jean

Erik Johans(s)on swedish emigrant from USA or Sweden to Peru. 19th Century

I am looking for my ancestor who emigrated to Peru abt. 1860-1870 to Peru, from the USA where he probably settled down first or maybe he came directly from Sweden to Peru. I guess the reason to go to Peru might have been mining in the Highlands of Peru. I guess he lived in a place in the highlands named Cajabamba or even a lil place near these one named "San Nicolás". Those places belong to the Cajamarca State.

He married in Peru to a lady named Pascuala Cava, and with her got three children named "Enrique Johanson Cava"( birth abt 1874), "Eduardo Johanson Cava" and "Elena Johanson Cava".
The first one "Enrique Segundo Johanson Cava" lived also in Cajabamba and I have seen his place in the cemetery overthere. This person is my ancestor, and I am searching for his father , the swede( maybe also finnish??) "Erik Johanson" that also might have been lived in Cajabamba. If you are reading this and you are also looking for an "Erik Johanson" who emigrated to South America (Peru) during these years, then write me please an E-mail to: russell212002[at]yahoo.de

I will be also thankful for any worth tipps

Capt. E. R. Johanson was commander of the SS Monterey of the Matson Lines out of San Francisco. He was a friend of my
grandparents - Mr & Mrs. G. Abbott of Honolulu & SanFrancisco. My family has some letters
from him circa 1934,1935 mailed by " Tin Can Mail" Niuafoou Island
Tonga Islands, South Seas
On one envelope it says tin can mail put overboard in open sea from the oceanic liner monterey off Tin Can (Niuafoou) island of the Tongan Group,
15 deg 33 min S. Lat., 175 deg 39 min W. Long., while on regular run between California and Australia. Carried ashore by native wimmers, it bears royal Tongan postage and brings to you a faint touch of the romance of these South Seas through which we are passing.
Another envelope has a small map of the route of this "Exploration Cruise" 1934 Matson Line Lassco Line
Starting in San Francisco going to Los Angeles then to
--kahiva, Tahiti, Zarstenba , Nukualofa, Nou--la, Uova, Tin Can Island, Apia, PassPass, Hilo, Honolulu and back to Los Angeles - These names were difficult to make out even with magnification so please pardon the errors that are undoubtedly there....

I dont know her fathers name but there is the possibility that two of her brothers were named Peter and Gustav. I think also that she always wrote the Johanson with only one s and one n but that may not be right. The grandchildren that I am in touch with dont have much more info - I have since learned from one of them that there were 14 children - 7 boys and 7 children. Her mother died when she was two and was taken care of by an aunt which makes it harder. Her birth date is October 10, 1880. Thanks for being so helpful....
Lorraine

I am searching for Johan Bernard Johanson (John Bernard Johnson). He was my great grandfather. He was born 1847 in the Goteborg area. I don't know when he immigrated to the US but he got married in 1888 to Betty Olson (Olsson). She was from the same area in Sweden. Apparently the families knew each other. She was only 18 years old.

They were married in Salt Lake City, UT but moved to Monroe, Sevier Co, UT and raised their family of four daughters; Anna, Hulda, Lillian, and Bernetta.

They eventually moved to Portland, OR later in life. All the daughters settled in the Pacific NW later in their lives as well.

This is my big brick wall. I'd appreciate any help.

Anna Birdsall Seley

Per Johan and Carl Gustaf Johanson

I'm looking for anyone with information on this family. I don't have a lot but this is what I know. Per Johan Johans(s)on was born March 6, 1874 and Carl Gustaf Johans(s)on was born March 28, 1876 (both at Silvberg parish in Sweden). Their parents were Johan Persson and Anna Casja Danielsdotter. They also had a sister, Anna Mathilda Johanson, (my great grandmother). I don't know which one, Per or Carl, goes with which family story, but one of them went to Russia and sent a letter home saying he would be home soon but he was never heard or seen from again. One had twin daughters in Sweden (possibly Agnes and Mathilda). And one of the boys drowned in Sweden. If you have any knowledge of this family please let me know.
Thank you,
Delayne

I am trying to locate relatives still living in Norway. Charles Gustav Johanson settled in Pensacola, Florida in the 1870's. He came from either Bergen or Stavanger.

Due to pressure from the KKK, he changed his name to Johnson. I have extensive information about the family that he started in the United States.
