Hi! I would love to pursue any leads you can provide. Gustaf Adolph Johansson is apparently a very common name. I have contacted one woman in Sweden and she believes she has found my grandfather's siblings but she cannot provide me with details until the fall as she is preparing several genealogical trips. She believes my grandfather emmigrated to America March 23, 1901. Anyway, I'd love to check out more leads. Thank you!

If any of the following information looks familiar to you please contact me..

I'm looking for information on my 2nd great grandfather, Johan Persson b. June 24, 1850 in Norrbarke, Kopparberg. He married Anna Cajsa Danielsdotter on November, 23, 1872 in Silvberg, Kopparberg. They had 3 children together:

1. Anna Matilda Johansdotter/Jansdotter (my ggrandmother)
b. March 2, 1873 in Brafall, Silvberg, Kopparberg

2. Per Johan Johansson/Jansson
b. March 6, 1874 in Silvberg, Kopparberg

3. Carl Gustaf Johansson/Jansson
b. March 28, 1876 in Ludvika, Kopparberg

Johan Persson "ran away" according to his parish record. He ended up in Minnesota with another woman, never married her. He was a stow away on a ship.

I don't know who each story belongs to but one of the boys drowned as a young child and one of the boys went to Siberia. He wrote to his family in Sweden and said he would be home soon but they never heard from or saw him again. Family belived he was killed by Russians.

There is also a family story that says one of the two boys had twin daughters in Sweden.

Please if anyone has any information on this family please let me know.
Thank you,
Delayne

I am looking for information on my grandfather, whom I never met. His name was Gustaf Adolph Johansson, born 12/6/1881. He immigrated from Undenas, Sweden (Alvsborg Region) as a child. I do not have any information on his parents or siblings. His name changed to Johnson after arriving in NY. He was much older than my grandmother when they married in 1927 -- married Ella Rose LaComb in upstate NY. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am searching for my paternal great grandparents - Bror Bernhard Johansson and Emilia Johansson.

Bror was born in Sweden, Aug 17, 1881. He resided in Helsingborg, and died there on Mar 24, 1963. He was married to Emilia - who was from Våxtorp, born on Apr 22, 1887 and died in Helsingborg on Sep 1, 1961.

I believe Emilia's birth name was Johnson or Johnsson. She grew up on a family farm in Våxtorp with 7 siblings (6 who emmigrated to the U.S.) I believe she had 2 brothers - Julius and Gottfrid.

Bror and Emilia had 5 children: Alice Linnea, Anna Ulrika, Ruth Maria, Sonja Evelina, and Axel Johan Julius. Axel emmigrated to the U.S. in 1923. Axel was their only son - my father's father - my grandfather.

Any information or leads would be gratefully appreciated!
Ron, here follows the translation you wanted:
Van Etten, N.Y. Dec 8 - 1935
Dear Corinne, how are you doing! hope for the best, how is your mother doing Want to thank you very much for the presents we received on my birthday it was far too much, yes thoughtless thank you thank you, O but! we have been waiting for letters yes, so very much we have been waiting to hear something from you about the funeral yes we have been worried and concerned and still are until we can hear that we have been mistaken so it has only been a foolish imagination wish it would be like that, we are not feeling too well it´s been so cold here for a while (until today) it is cold but no frost, but cold right and cloudy so I have some difficulty to see to write, We don´t have very hot blood nowadays we are freezing very easily, Mother is the one who is freezing the most her legs are cold extra stockings and a blanket wrapped around and so up into a big rocking chair and there she sits very comfortably between the meals and the coffee-pot on the stove almost all the time then she reads or sings, we hardly get any eggs now, so some days I have eaten eggs that cost one dollar each to produce, the feed costs viz. a little more than a dollar a day, sold one of the cows, they fetched her last Sunday so she is already eaten now.

Yesterday Saturday I brought home a bunch of fish to prepare and ("saka" is an unknown word) för Christmas and the winter season so you don´t need to send us any now this year, We thank you nevertheless for what is gone, on the 5th November I had the Automobile to the city the election day and had it fixed with oil battery, and so on for the winter, but about three weeks ago I wanted to borrow it but he was ("stiv" unknown word) so no go, no one ill, at first sent to Elmira and then to the factory but it has not come yet intended to graduate on the 19th but I think I don´t want to try but request another 90 days learner´s license
have nothing more to tell this time
Best regards
Kindly
John A.
Twins, Carl (Charles) & Johan (John) Johansson / Johnson of Sweden & Grand Rapids, MI, PHOTOS at www.deadfred.com

Twins, Carl (Charles) and Johan (John) Johansson (Johnson) were born in 1856, Alster Parish, Varmland, Sweden. They emigrated to Grand Rapids, Kent, MI, about 1886. Charles married Mary and had a son, born about 1883-1886. They lived in Grand Rapids, MI, but eventually moved to OR. John married a woman named Josie and had several children, at least three of whom were removed from the home because of the parent's drinking. When they realized that they were not going to be able to get the children back, they moved to CA, according to the family story. Charles and John had a younger brother, Gustaf (b. 1859), who remained in Grand Rapids and married a Swedish girl (Sara Johnson) there. He died in 1904. Older siblings, Christina, Anders, and Eva, remained in Sweden married, and raised families. All were the children of Johannes Larsson and Cajsa Andersdatter, of Alster Parish, Varmland, Sweden.

No further is known of what happened to Charles and John Johnson, or their children. Anyone recognizing the names of these people or the photos (see below), please contact me!

Pictures of Carl Johansson (Charles Johnson) and Johan Johansson (John Johnson) can be found at Dead Fred's Genealogy Photo Archive: www.deadfred.com

Hi!

From Genline (www.genline.com/) you can see that the parents names of Carl, Gustaf, Lovisa, Sven Johan and August were Johannes Eriksson born 02/07/1813 in Segerstad, Skaraborg county and Stina Svensdotter born 07/14/1817 in Saleby, Skaraborg county. All the children were born in Hassle parish in Skaraborg county, the place was called Tjos.
The boys emigrated but Lovisa stayed and married Erik August Vidström. They moved to a place called Husby in Kopparberg county. They had at least eight children. Johannes and Stin moved to the same parish 1882. In Husby the family lived on Nas Kungsgard. In 1892 they all moved to Torsaker, Gavleborg county. According to census for 1900 they lived there and Johannes was still in life, but Srina was died.
There are some info about Lovisas children, but perhaps you know about them.

HI my name is mechelle Storeide and I live in Norway and am married to Geir Jan Storeide he is the grandson of Johan Nordal who was the uncle to Asbjorn paul Målø. It seems he changed it when he immigrated to Paul osbjorn Nordahl as he probably joined either his uncle Ansgar Nordahl in North Dakota or Andrew in Minnisota. His mothers (Anna) twin sister Ella Nordal Wainer was also living in North Dakota. I have been researching the family as there is a matter of an inheritance in North Dakota. Please contact me if you would like more information at gjansto@frisurf.no Mechelle

Folke Bertil Johansson was my greatgrandfather. That was his name before immigrating to the US. Bert F. Johnson was the name he took after immigration.

Bert/Folke information...
Born: 14 Aug 1906 - Smoland, Sweden
Died: 15 Sept 1989 - Jamestown, Chautauqua, New York, United States
US Arrival Date: 29 Dec 1925 at Age: 19
Port of Departure: Gothenburg, Sweden
Ship Name: Stockholm
Port of Arrival: New York, New York

He married Anna Astrid Samuelson (who became Astrid A. Johnson). Anna was born 17 May, 1910 in Dala-Jarna, Sweden, and died 7 June 2004 in Warren, Warren, Pennsylvania, United States.

Bart/Folke's obituary lists his parents' names as Linus Johansson and Agusta Svensson. I'm afraid this is all I know, if that is even correct, and it is also all I have found as of yet. Any info on them or Bert/Folke himself is welcome.

Thank you! Yes I got some of that same information, as a matter of fact I was led to a distant relative alive in Sweden! If there is any information on Johannes or Stina's parents I am trying to go back as far as I can. Thank you
Lynn

I am looking for any information from Sweden on the parents of August Johansson, Sven Johan Johansson, Gustuf Johansson, Charles Johansson (Hasseldahl) and Louisa Johansson. Sven immigrated to America and died in Santa Clara County California in 1934. Louisa married a man named Ernst Erik Widstrom. Charles Johansson is my great-great-grandfather. He was born somewhere in Sweden on September 3 1844 or 45, immigrated to america in 1868, married a woman named Christina who immigrated from Sweden in 1800, and died in Montague Michigan in 1919. The kicker is when he immigrated he changed his last name to Hasseldahl!! Anyone have any ideas as how to start with this???

Re: ship's name

Have you checked TheShipsList?

I have an ancestor who emigrated from Liverpool to Boston (stopping in Queenstown) in 1904 and the journey took 9 days aboard the SS Saxonia. Don't know if it took other ships the same amount of time.

The name of the ship was in his naturalization record, which had been posted on Genweb. Good luck.
