Re: Henry A. Johnson Nelle Jones - GA.

Hi, Kim. We must somehow be related. Henry A. Johnson was my grandfather. Nell, or Nellie, Jones, first married him, and the result was my mother, Anne Missouri Johnson. Henry died, and Nell married Homer Johnson. They had three children, Jean, Alexander, and John Homer Johnson. Of the four kids, only John is alive. He lives with his wife in Hazlehurst, GA, and my wife and I visted them a year ago this past September.

John still owns Homer Johnson's farm, and his own, in Long Pond. At one point, Homer moved his family to Mount Vernon, GA, and they lived there until both Homer and Nell died. She pre-deceased him.

My mother, Anne Missouri Johnson, married Arthur Schloss, who was a soldier. They remained married until my father, Arthur, passed away in April, 1974. My mother, Anne, passed away on August 6, 2006.'

It is interesting to consider that you and I apparently have the same grandparents.

For what it's worth, I lived on the farm in Long Pond as a very young boy, and in the house on Mt. Vernon also. I was born in Vidalia, GA.

I am looking for descendants of George PURDEE and wife Sarah JOHNSON. I'm hoping to tie in George PURDEE w/ my PERDEE ancestor, John PERDEE.

George PURDEE and Sarah JOHNSON were married on 6-17-1840 in Greene Co, GA. Did they settle in Greene Co, GA, and have children there?

My John PERDEE was also married in Greene Co, GA, on 9-24-1839, to Didimma "Demmy" HUNT. John was born ABT 1810 in GA or SC. John and wife Demmy had 4 children in Greene Co, GA. Their firsborn was my line, Caroline PERDEE, b ABT 1841.

I'm grasping at straws, thinking maybe George PURDEE could have been a brother to my John PERDEE, or another type of relative. In that case, hopefully I will be able to find John's parents/siblings/other relatives, etc.

Any help appreciated!!

Im gonna keep trying my avenues in my spare time. All I know of my Johnson grandparents is that my fathers parents names ( I say ARE not were) because of my faith in the everlasting, so their names, James Clifton Johnson Sr. and Jean Alice Thornton Johnson. My dad was 5 yrs old when he and grandparents, and my aunt Norma Jean left Reidsville North Carolina. The year was 1957. My father was born Jan.28, 1952.

Find Bryant Johnson on the 1850 and 1860 Covington County, AL censuses:

Byrant - born about 1815 GA
Sarah - born about 1820 GA
Josiah N. - born about 1834 GA
Martha E. - born about 1838 GA
George W. - born about 1842 GA
Elizabeth - born about 1844 GA
Micajah - born about 1845 GA
Melissa Ann - born about 1848 GA
Sarah - born about 1850 AL
John H. - born about 1853 AL
Susan A. - born about 1855 AL
Samuel H. - born about 1860 AL

Find the widow Sarah Johnson on the 1870 and 1880 Walton County, FL censuses.

I can deduce that Melissa married Thomas Miller and she died in Walton County in Jan. 1923 and buried at Cluster Springs.

John H. married Mary Frances ?? and he died 1914 in Walton County.

Samuel H. maried Mary J. Truett. He died Jan. 3, 1930 in Gadsden County, FL, but buried in Defuniak Springs, Walton County.

On the 1850 census, Bryant Johnson is only a few households away from William and Polly Johnson, whom I feel sure are my ggg-grandparents and are possibly the parents of Bryant.

Would love to hear from anyone researching this family.

Now be careful, for there is another Bryant Johnson born about 1809 NC on the 1850 Early County, GA census & the 1860 & 1880 Conecuh County, AL census & on the 1870 Santa Rosa County, FL census, who also has a son named Micajah born about 1851 GA. This 2nd Bryant, about the same age, son with same name, and living in roughly the same area, led me on a WILD goose chase for a while. Would make you think that somehow the 2 Bryants are connected....

Blessings,

Ken Johnson

Charles, have you or has any male member of your family participated in a DNA study?

Could you contact me offline at bigfoot@cyberback.com? I have some information on a male descendant of Pres. Andrew Johnson.

As I understand it, there is no PERFECT knowledge of President Johnson's genealogical line past his parents. All of the rest seems to be speculation. But the DNA study helps pin this down a little,

Johnson/Johnston Family in Virginia-1700s

There was a William Garrett (born about 1713) who maried an Elizabeth Ashton, and they lived (eventually) in Louisa Co., VA. They had a son named Henry Garrett who married a Mary Johnson, as well as daughters named Ann Garrett who married William Johnson and Susan Garrett who married Richard Johnson.

In addition to the above, there was a man named Clevears/Cluverius Duke who married an Elizabeth Barbour "Barbary" Johnson in Louisa Co., VA in 1778. Mr. Duke had previously married a Lucy Smith in Louisa County (in 1770), and shortly after that, it appears, a Richard Johnson married an Ann Smith in the home of Mr. Duke (but Richard Johnson and his wife Ann Smith then lived in Caroline Co., VA by 1773).

Does anyone know the lineage of the above Johnson family associated with Louisa Co., VA? Was the Richard Johnson who married Ann Smith (probably around 1771-1772 or so) in the home of Mr. Duke a descendant of either William Johnson and Ann Garrett or Richard Johnson and Susan Garrett? Does anyone have any information on the above Lucy Smith and/or Ann Smith?

Does anyone know if the above Johnson family was related to the William Johnson/Johnston of Spotsylvania/Caroline Co., VA (born 1697-died 1778 in Caroline Co., VA; son of a Richard Johnson/Johnston) who married first Ann Chew and second Elizabeth Wyatt? This William Johnson/Johnston fathered a son named Richard Johnson/Johnston who married Dorothy Waller. At least one record that I have seen claimed that the Richard Johnson who married Dorothy Waller was the same man as the above-referenced Richard Johnson who married Ann Smith in Louisa County....but I don't know if that is just an assumption/guess, versus if someone has proof that it was the same man (but I note that the Richard Johnson who married Ann Smith in Louisa Co., VA then lived in Caroline Co., VA....so is that a "clue" or just a "coincidence")? The Richard Johnson who married Ann Smith in Louisa Co., VA fathered a daughter named Elizabeth "Betsy" Johnson, and she was baptized in Caroline Co., VA in 1774.

Note: If it WAS, in fact, the same Richard Johnson who married BOTH Dorothy Waller of Spotsylvania/Caroline Co., VA and Ann Smith of Louisa Co., VA, then that would certainly imply that there was a connection of some sort between the "Spotsylvania/Caroline Co., VA Johnsons/Johnstons" and the "Louisa Co., VA Johnsons." I note that Dorothy Waller died in 1770, so that "fits," at least, with her husband potentially marrying Ann Smith around 1771-1772.

Per one record that I saw, one of the descendants of William Johnson/Ann Chew married a Barbour...and note the middle name of the Elizabeth Barbour Johnson who married Mr. Duke in 1778 in Louisa County (so is that also a clue that there was some connection between the Johnsons in Louisa Co., VA and the Johnsons/Johnstons in Caroline/Spotsylvania Co., VA)?

Any/all comments on these Johnsons/Johnstons will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,
This is a different Louis Johnson. My ggrandfather was born in Norway and his wife Anna Peterson was born in Sweden. He did not have another wife, but his mother's name was Sophia, also born in Norway. His father was John Jonsen Kongsgaarden - born in Norway. I have found distant cousins with similar names also in WI, so it is possible that they could be in the same line. Carol

Good morning Carol,
I'm not sure if my family was in that specific county, but they seemed to have been in a few places in Wis.
Louis Johnson, born abt 1870 in Sweden. Married Anna, son Harold born Waukesha in 1895. Later Louis married a Sophia in Wis (around 1898).

Do any of these names ring a bell?
Chris

Thank you Carol for your quick reply.

It is so frustrating trying to research a name like "Johnson." I am still trying to make one last link and if that proves out, then I can trace my family beginning with Louis from Wisconsin all the way to Tacoma, WA. But there is just one missing link.

I do have someone doing some checking in Waukesha, WIS, but it doesn't look like he's having any luck.

Good luck with your family research.

Chris Johnson
