Daniel H. Johnston b. 1812 OH Richland, Troy, Lexington area

Does anyone have ties to Daniel H. Johnston, b. 1812 in OH?
His father was probably Daniel H. Johnston as I have found land records showing land grants 1813 and 1814 in Richland CO. Quite possible that he lived in other counties near Richland. Married Jenette Baldwin/Balden/Andrews, a widow probably in the 1830's, had several children although many of them died in childhood. Surviving, Mary, Sarah Eliz, John, and Lydia Almedia. Daniel d. 1874. Not sure if he served in the Civil War. Several other Johnstons lived in that area in the early 1800's, but not sure if they were related. Maybe former NJ residents. Anyone know of any siblings and parents of Daniel or ties to this family?

I am descended from Littleton Johnston. Littleton's daughter Frances "Frankie" Johnston married Joseph Henderson and their daughter Lucinda Henderson Robinson would be my g-g-g-g-gmother. I am wondering if you have ever read Littleton's will and if so what do you think about the part which denies daughter Frankie's part in the will if she ever in anyway takes back joseph henderson? Wonder what he did? Just thought I'd post this and see if any other part of the family might know?? Thanks!
Hardin County, TN, Johnston/Johnson Family

Am looking for info about the family of Phillip Johnson who was married to Elizabeth Ross. Phillip was born in NC in 1821 according to my research and may have died after 1864 and before 1880 because Elizabeth is listed as the head of the household in the 1880 Census. The census shows that they were in Savannah, Lowryville, & maybe Satillo areas of Hardin County, TN. I believe they are the parents of my GGrandmother Sarah Johnston/Johnson who married William Stroud in Hempstead County, AR, in 1882. Would love to hear from anyone who has info on this family in Hardin County, TN. Send me an email @ lindacollins565@msn.com or post here. Thanks in advance. lindacollins3626

Margaret JOHNSTON. Born aft 1794. Margaret died in Monroe Co., Ohio on Oct 6, 1843; she was 49.

In 1809 when Margaret was 15, she first married James OKEY, GGGG Uncle, son of Leven OKEY (Oct 22, 1760-Jun 21, 1829) & Esther HAZZARD (Apr 3, 1759-Oct 9, 1829), in Ohio. Born on Jul 7, 1790 in Lewes, Sussex, Delaware. James died in Monroe Co., Ohio on Dec 23, 1820; he was 30. He is listed in the 1820 census in Monroe County between the age of 26-45. In 1820, his family consisted of 2 daughters under 10, 1 son under 10 and 1 son 10-16. Therefore he was probably married in Ohio in 1809; However there is no record in Belmont County for his marriage. He died before June 1823, as the records of the Court of Common Pleas (Appearance Docket 1, Page 32) show a case brought by David Lockwood vs. Cornelius and Margaret Okey, Administrators of the estate of James Okey, deceased.
They had the following children:
2 i. Cornelius H. (1817-)
3 ii. Elizabeth Jane (1818-1848)
4 iii. Alice (1820-)
abt 1825 when Margaret was 31, she second married Henry BALDING, son of Joseph BALDING (Mar 29, 1745-), in Monroe Co, Ohio. Born in 1767 in New York. Henry died in Monroe Co, Ohio in 1862; he was 95.

I am interested in exchanging addition information---jvmusik@primenet.com

I've accepted for many years that Elizabeth Johnston, daughter of William Johnston of Laurens County, married Robert Guttery of SC and Georgia, but I am beginning to question that.

Although William Johnston named a legatee Elizabeth Guttery in his will, no relationships are stated. One legatee, Larkin Shepard, does not appear to be a child of William's at all. Larkin is on the 1800 census with no adult females in the home, so he could be a widower son-in-law.

In 1790, a William Gutry resided next door to William Johnston, and several Dalrymples, who witnessed Johnston's will, also reside next door. This William Gutry is not the son of Robert and Betty Guttery, as he is too old, and has at least 4 children in 1790.

I suspect this William is Elizabeth Johnston's husband, and the marital association people have accepted with Robert Guttery simply has to do with the last name appearing in the will, combined with a genealogical leap of faith. William Gutry, John Gutry and Robert Guttery are all still in the area in 1800, so this seems to be a different group of Gutterys who did not move to Georgia.

If someone has something of substance (not the full will, as I have that, and all it proves is that William Johnston had a legatee called Elizabeth Guttery, relationship unknown, husband unknown), I would love to hear from them.

I have come across info that Johnson/Johnston's lived in Tomahawk Wisconsin and Merrill Wisc. I am looking for info on Charles (Carl) Johnson born in Sweden abt 1855 possibly Dec. I don't know his parent or siblings. He married Carrie (maiden Anderson) of Denmark Oct 9, 1865 I do not know her parents or siblings. They married 1882. Their children were Anna married LaRoche, Emma Edwards, Clara Maule, Matilda Bengston, Carl Johnson, Edward Johnson. Carrie died in her Pine Lake home and lived with her daughter Emma in Merril Wisconsin. They used to visit with family at Tomahawk and the outlining areas. I do not know what their names were spelled like before imm. Charles imm in 1873 and Carrie 1880-81. Can you give me info on either of these people?

My ggrandmother was Mable Elizabeth Johnston b. 2 Aug 1876 in San Francisco. She has a brother Walter Everett b. 20 Sep 1870 (in another country?). Mable married Eliphilet Howard Belcher 5 Oct 1907 in San Francisco and her brother gave her away because her parents had died.

I have been searching for years trying to determine the names and origin of Mable and Walter's parents. I do not know when they died, but they were living in San Francisco. The mother was born in Canada, maiden name of Horne, per death records of Mable and census records for Mable and Walter.

Does anyone know the parents of my Mable Johnston?

My James Johnston came to America in 1794 from Ireland with his 3 children, William, Elizabeth and Benjamin, possibly Molly.

William lived in Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. He was trained as a shoemaker, but was also a physician and preacher.

His son Charles was also trained as a shoemaker and lived in Pennsylvania. He was also a photographer later in life.

Elizabeth was a pharmacist and was Benjamin.

I'm afraid they may not have been the same family.

Looking for a husband & wife with last name Johnston (Johnson or Johnstone, but family bible says Johnston) who died in SC abt 1824 (possibly anytime between 1823-1833) of yellow fever.

Anybody know if the largest epidemic in SC after 1823 is in 1824? I read that & that's why I was guessing 1824 as a possible death date.

Does anybody know if the yellow fever epidemic was more widespread in Charleston in 1824 than in other parts of SC?

My ancestor---Jeanette Johnston--was their daughter, b Jan 1823.
Whilst I am only a novice at this I could not help but notice that your Andrew Johnston shows a date of birth as March 1766 at which time Major George Johnston would only be two years old (born 19 Mar 1764). I rather suspect therefore that they may be brothers rather than father/son.
Just a thought, perhaps it's worth investigating.

They do not seem to be of the same family, but thank you for writing about them. Yours were better educated!

Can you tell me anything about them? My gg grandfather, James Johnston, (also Johnson) was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, I think. Was orphaned and ended up in Cleveland by 1820. Moved to Ypsilanti in 1850. I am sure they were in Pennsylvania, but don't know for how long and with whom. It would have been sometime between 1794 and 1820. He seems to have had close relations with both Palmers and Cozads. Cozad had a tannery in Cleveland (Euclid) about 1810. James may have been with an adopted parent, so has been hard to find. This family seem to be related to the Insley Douglass Johnstons, but not directly descended.
