Of course what I wrote as "Aaa" was supposed to be Asa... Asa Jefferson Joiner. There's an interesting conundrum about an "Alford" (Alfred) Sellars who reunited my great grandfather Richard with his sisters Matt (Martha Ann) and Elizabeth Bethany late in life. Alford Sellars was born in 1862 and was raised by the Veals too. It would seem that Georgia Ann would have been to old to bear a child in 1862, and there is no record or suggestion that George W., the only son of Jacob Benjamin and Georgia Ann known to be alive and old enough to father a child in 1862, ever married or had a child. His "estate" such as it was... his Confederate back pay... was claimed by his father's sister-in-law Susan West Sellers, wife of Elija. So whose child was (Steven) Alford Sellars...? I don't know, but that he was a son of Jacob Benjamin and Georgia Ann seems the least unlikely possibility. Names he gave his children sure don't help... he called them Mary M., Sedero, and Uranus Mercedes.

Anyhow... I note from your tree data that Asa Jefferson Joiner's mother was named Sabra Ann... (and that SHE was the Sherrod) so in 1860 George W. Sellars was living with Asa Jefferson and his sister Sabra Ann Sellers was apparently living with Asa Jefferson's mother, Sabra Ann. Also, I've always doubted that I had the name Linsey Garrett right from the census... Now that I know about the Linsey connection, I'm even more concerned that I have his last and first names reversed, but... it could also be a surname used as a first name so... all I really know is that I'm not sure which is this guy's first name and which is his last name... but now that I know about him, my money goes on "Linsey Garrett" actually being Jarret Linsey.
Bennett and Charity's daughter Georgia Ann was my 2-great grandmother. Georgia Ann, by the way, had a daughter named Elizabeth Bethany... who married Millard Filmore Veal in DeKalb County on 30 April 1878. Family oral history says that Georgia Ann was born in Camilla while it was still in Indian Lands on 15 January 1819. Both Georgia Ann and her husband Jacob Benjamin Sellers/Sellars (who married in Pulaski County on 11 September 1838) died in 1862 and their children scattered to the winds. Several had already been "farmed out" to relatives by 1860. George W. who is believed to have been Jacob Benjamin's oldest known son but may not have been... probably wasn't... a son of Georgia Ann, was living in Camilla with Georgia Ann's cousin ((Aaa Jefferson?) Joiner and Sabra Ann Sellers was living with Sabra Joiner in the household of Linsey Garret in Dooley County. Sabra Ann Joiner was rather elderly and was listed in the census as a midwife. My surmise is that her namesake was her apprentice in that occupation.

George W. and Jacob B. both enrolled together in the 51st Georgia Infantry, apparently in Calhoun County, and both died as a result... Jacob B. probably in Calhoun County in 1862, most likely from epidemic disease, and George W. at Kingston, Georgia, in 1864... a delayed casualty of a wound received at Funkstown MD during Lee's retreat from Gettysburg.

My great grandfather Richard ran away from home... probably the home of his grandmother Nancy Moye who was estranged from her husband William Sellers who settled in Thomas County before 1830, and was probably living in Pulaski County where Richard joined the 12th Georgia Infantry Regiment in 1862. Only 14 years old, Richard was disability discharged a couple of months later, after suffering Typhoid Fever.

Elizabeth Bethany and Martha Ann were raised by Veals in DeKalb County and both later married Veals... but not directly into the families of the two different Veals who raised them... to more distant Veal kin. I assume that they were somehow kin to the Veals who raised them, but if so I have no idea how they were related.

More: http://pone.com/ts/rw000.htm

BTW: I have "Charty"'s maiden name as Sherrod. Is there a record of the marriage of Bennett and Charity that you're working from...?

Looking for information, parents and descendants of Riley Singleton JOINER, b. abt. 1824 in Georgia and died bet. 1862 and 1870 in Alabama. He married Lucinda Caroline BAGWELL, b. abt. 1831 in Perry Co., Alabama and died aft. 1870 in Alabama. Suspect they had a son, Abner E. JOINER, b. 13 May 1860/1862, born probably in Alabama and raised in Union Parish, Louisiana, with Mark and Susan BAGWELL. I would like to prove father/son connection of Riley to Abner. I have proof that two separate JOINER lines - this line and the JOINER line of Washington Co., Georgia, are related by DNA. I need help to track and prove this line. Will share info on Washington Co., Georgia, Joiner line and data collected on this line.

He is dead. I googled him out of idle curiosity since I hadn't seen or heard from him in almost 40 years. He came up as "preceded in death" in his dad's obituary. I know it was him because it listed all the siblings. I've tried off and on to find out how he died which is how I stumbled on to your message. His dad was in some little town in Tennessee. I think Linda and Tommy were still in GA. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the newspaper or anything else. This was in whatever that paper was back in Nov. or Dec. Now that I think about it, I think it was the Warner Robbins paper. I would be curious to know how and/or why he died. I hope he had a good life.

Recently, I came across an individual by Joe's name on the Social Security Death Index. The age was about right. My heart sank. I am still hoping I can locate him. His older sister's name was Elizabeth. She graduated from Pacific High School in San Bernardino, class of 1962. I would appreciate any information you can share with me. Thank you very much.
