My uncle, who passed away last year, was named William Joli. He was an American pilot in WW11, but I don't know where in Europe he was stationed. If you think that he might be the person for whom you are looking, please feel free to contact me. He is survived by a wife and three daughters.
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

Thank you for replying to my post. It may be a longshot, but it is surely worth trying. The William Joli who was my natural father, was based in the UK in l946. Definately in the autumn of that year. He could have been stationed anywhere in Surrey, there were lots of bases incorporating all the Forces.

I am sorry to hear your Uncle passed away last year. I would love to meet anyone to whom I may be related, but I am aware that this could be a delicate matter to your Aunt, and their daughters.

As it happens I discovered my natural mother, (sadly she had died) Emma Wilson, and also two half sisters, to whom I am very close. It was a marvellous experience. Very little is known of my father, except he was stationed in the UK, was American or Canadian, and in the Forces. And he was known in my mother's house as 'Uncle Bill'. It would seem they were reasonably serious, her more than him, and he went back home, in l947 (I think). That was the year I was born.

The only person who knew everything about him, because she was living with my mother at the time was Aunt Joyce, who passed away in l997, just as she was replying to a request for information on William Joli!.

I am sorry I cannot be more specific. Any information would be most greatly appreciated. If you need any more from my end, please let me know.

Many thanks, and Happy New Year!
Kind Regards
Gill Osborne

Hallo. Looking for William Joli, possibly Canadian or American, in the army, stationed at Woking, Surrey, England l946/7. He is my natural father. Does the name Emma Wilson nee Holehouse mean anything? Thanks a lot

Jill
