He was the son of Ezekiel Ables who was the son of Jeremiah Ables. My e-mail has changed to
jo1925@belzonicable.com
I will appreciate any information I can find on this Jolly family. There were many Jolly families in MS in Choctaw County and Attala County.

Melba
Hi,

I am looking for the Joseph Jolly that was also in Attala County about the time William was. Also, do you have any documentation about William? Marriage records ... etc. Did he have any brothers or sisters?

I am Martha Ann Jolly's (married to George Washington Jenkins) great great granddaughter and all the family trees you find say she was Joseph Moorehead and Ann Sherrill Jolly's daughter but I am beinging to seriously doubt that. Both Josesph and William had land granted to them by George Washington Jenkins and I am thinking she may be related to them.

Thanks for any help.

I am researching the family of William Duncan Jolly, born in Missouri around 1848. His fther is a question, perhaps George Jolly, but family say Richard Jolly - Richard Jolly was the name of William D. Jolly's brother. William Duncan in his eraly late teens left Missouri, married Nancy Miller and raised a family first born in Kansas - the remainder of his children were born in Texas, Panhandle, Carson County. William children were Marian, Charles Morris, Marcus and Martha. Marian and Marcus stayed in Texas, Charles migrated to California, raised a family in Long Beah, California died in San francisco, because they flew him there for medical help from Long Beach, where he subsequently died in SF, but never lived there. Charles Morris married Alejandra Legaspe, from Mexico, they had two children Morris Duncan and Cheryl Ann, still alive and living in Long Beach, CA. Marian married a man, last name Cox.

hi Danielle
Arthur Albert Jolly's father, Francis had a sister Janetta Jane Jolly - she is my gggrandmother. She married Charles Jolly who is the son of Francis (yes, another one)Jolly who is said to be William Godolphin's brother. So I belong to both branches of the first 2 Jolly families to arrive in SA.
I have a bit of info on your Francis but didn't know that Arthur Albert was born at Morphett Vale. I have a bit of info on the Jolly's at Morphett Vale. email me at
valdawson@virginbroadband.com if you are interested.
Hi Danielle
Please excuse the very tardy response to your posting. I have your grandfathers generation as George Herbert 9/12/1906, Catherine Rachel 13/5/1915, James Francis 31/5/1918 and Christina May 21/4/1921. I look to be missing several of the older siblings.
I descend from Jane the first born of William Godolphin Jolly and her husband/cousin Charles Jolly. I've done quite a lot of research on the Jollys so please ask what you want to know.
Alan Jamieson
alanjam@senet.com.au

Thanks Danielle,
I've added the extras to my file. I wonder if there was a reason for the gap from 1906 to 1915? Hopefully you know Christina and she is willing and able to help compile biographies of all of your branch.
You may not be aware that the parentage of William Godolphin Jolly has been the subject of much debate. We definitely do not descend from William Jolly and Jane Harris. That couple had about 5 children including a William who was living in Cornwall when our William was in Australia. Some of the descendents are in the USA. We also do not descend from a William of about the right age who was baptised at St Enoder. That family is also taken care of.
Almost certainly the parents of William Godolphin Jolly were Richard Jolly and Jane/Winifer Buckingham. (To the Cornish Jane, Janifer & Winifer were derivatives of the same name). This means that there is an error in the St Enoder registers which note the 1798 baptism with parents William and Jane. I have seen the orginal St Enoder register. It was poorly kept and the 1798 entries look like they were written up later, perhaps by memory. Winifer Buckingham was the daughter of John Buckingham and grand daughter of Grace Godolphin.
Hi Danielle
The references to Winifer/Jane are:
Winifred Buckingham bap 3/8/1766 St Columb Major d.o John & Mary Buckingham.
(Note baptism of brother or half brother William Godolphin Buckingham 3/7/1774 at St Columb Major.)
Winifred Buckingham married Richard Jolly 20/9/1794 East Newlyn.
William Godolphin Jolly bap 1798 St Enoder so William(?) & Jane.
Nancey bap 3/8/1801 Feock do Richard & Jane
Peggy bap 14/8/1806 Feock do Richard & Winiferd. Buried 19/3/1809
Peggy bap 18/7/1810 Feock do Richard & Jane
Jane buried 10/5/1836 East Newlyn (may not be our Jane)

I didn't pay too much attention to the various spellings of Winifer as I was expecting Winifred.
My 3X G Grandfather was Joseph married to Elizabeth Ada Jolly, they arrived in South Australia in 1854 aboard the Templeton. They resided in Moonta Mines where Joseph was a Captain ( Boss) at the mines. They had 4 children, one of whom (Loveday Maria) married Henry Richard Hancock (a rather notorious figure in Moonta mining history)

Dont think I'm actually ON Kay's list. I'm hoping facebook is going to become a resource. I have started randomly looking for names of people off of my tree (usually persons 60 or under). Two random selections Thursday night produced a result within 24 hours. The respondents have offered to help with info if they can even though they are not family historians. They are from the Hannaford line. There are so many Jollys in Oz pinning em down is going to take a lot of stabs in the dark. Email me direct with your email addy and I'll put you in touch with the US connection. me kehjol@three.com.au
cheers
Keith

When researching Jane/Winifer Buckingham which name is more prominent?
I'm not sure why the age gap between George and Catherine was bigger than the rest.
HI, the other names missing are Francis 17/9/1898, William Joseph 5/12/1899, Mary Catherine 13/5/1901, Annie Matilda 31/7/1902, Arthur Joseph 15/6/1904 then came George Herbert.Sadly only Christina born 1921 is the only sibling alive. The daughter of Mary Catherine keeps in contact with her and has passed on alot of information.I've managed to go back to William Godolphin Jolly baptized 28/5/1798 at St Enoder, Cornwall. His parent were William Jolly and Jane Harris.I've found a marriage between a William Jolly and a Jane Harris in Cornelly 1790 but not sure if they are the same. Does any of this help?
Thanks, Danielle.
