With the surname Jones, you have to be very clear about specific dates and the specific locations where people lived. As you know when you type "Jones" into Ancestry or Familysearch, there are thousands of possibilities.
For example, my great-grandfather is Charles A. Jones. It took me months to find the names of his parents because my family is from Pittsburgh and it turned out that both of his parents were born in Ohio.
I caught a break with him though because his death date, April 27, 1911, is within the specific time frame when the State of Pennsylvania required death certificates (1906 on). His death certificate happened to contain his parents names and birthplaces. If he had died in say, 1905, it would have been a different story.
So - fill in what you wrote in your original post with some specific locations and dates. This will help others be able to respond to you - especially with thousands of Joneses out there.
