I have photos of these people PP johnson and wife with sisters.

They were neighbors and perhaps relatives to the Lindquist/Hallquist group. Betsy Nordstrom would have been the daughter of Elna...

The family name Monson mean anything to you?

Let me know if these are the people. My grandmother was Dorothy Lindquist and her husband was Phillip Lindquist. The Sven hallquist family lived in Svea and that is were my family farm is.

Good luck. I have a box of other photos from Svea that I can't figure out relations or names.

Steven P Lindquist
Cheryl,
My grandmother's family is primarily from the Horby and Ostentorp areas of Sweden. In fact, our family has had a home in Norrto (or Norrtou) outside Horby for over 200 years. Our cousin, Bengt Nilsson lives in the house now. We are going there this week to visit. Our grandmother, Anna Johanson, was born there before coming to the U.S. in around the turn of the century. She had several uncles and aunts born in Ostentorp around the 1840s: Per Mansson, Anders Mansson, Ola Mansson, Elna Mansdotter, and Elsa Mansdotter. Her mother, remarried to Nils Jonsson in 1895 and had 3 children: Ida Nilsson, August Nilsson, and Ivar Nilsson. All of those families still live in Skane.
If I can be of help to you in locating family while I am there, please let me know.

Mike Wilson
Houston, TX

Per Jonson--Great-Grandfather

I'm looking for information about my great-grandfather, Per Jonson (this is the spelling used in the United States, maybe the same in Sweden).

I have very little information about Per Jonson-(as given here):

Per Jonson was born December 10, 1830 in Sweden. He married Elna Andersdotter who was born October 10, 1844 in Sweden in the Krams forsamling, Kristianstad's Lan where she spent her youth. They were married in 1856 in Sweden and came to the U. S. in 1881. They had five children that I know of who went by the following names in the Svea, Minnesota, area: John Per (J. P.) Johnson, Andrew Per (A. P. Johnson), Pete Per (P. P.) Johnson, Hannah Johnson, Emil (Per?) Johnson. I'm fairly sure the first four children were born in Sweden. Andrew Per Johnson was born on February 26, 1872 in Vestra Vram, Skone, Sweden. He received his U. S. citizenship in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, on December 9, 1896. On his Declaration of Intention and Clerk's Certificate, it says that he emigrated to the United States and landed at the port of New York on or about the month of June in the year 1881 (at least Per, Elna, John, Andrew, Pete and Hannah). Andrew was my grandfather.

Elna had a sister (Karna Andersdotter--also known as Carrie) who married Mons Swenson. They came to the United States from Sweden. I was told the following: Karna and Mons were both from south Skåne, Sweden. Karna (used Anderson as her maiden name in the U. S.) and Mons Swenson married when she was either 18 or 19 years old in Sweden. They bought land in Sodra Rorum, Skåne, Sweden, and stayed there until 1868 when they came to the United States on a steamer.

Mons was born August 4, 1832 in Horby, Malmohus Lan, Sweden.
His father: Sven Mattison, born 1796, died April 10, 1843
His mother: Bengta Bengtsdotter

Karna was born August 24, 1842 (Number 2 Ostentorp, Skane, Sweden). I'm not sure whether that is Sodra Rorum or not. They were married in 1861. When they came to the United States, they had four children with them: Elna (born 1862), Elsie (born May 7, 1864), Swan M. (born October 10, 1866 at Number 2 Gunarp, Ostentop), and Andrew (born June 24, 1869). There were more children born in the Svea, Minnesota, U. S., area. All of these children used the surname of Swenson, at least in the U. S. I do not know whether all of these four children were born in the same place, but it is likely. A later child, Hilda C., was born and was my grandmother. She and Andrew P. Johnson were first cousins and married so both of these families are my relatives.

A second cousin told me that Karna's parents were as follows:

Father: Anders Akesson, born September 5, 1802 (O Wram)
Mother: Hanna Pehrsdotter, born March 29, 1821 (Esphult)
They were married November 3, 1839

Hanna Pehrsdotter's father: Perh Perhrsson, born Brentorp, Esphult, Linnergot
Hanna's mother: Else Tykesdotter, born 1793 (Djuorrod)

Elna had another sister who married Anders Jonson (I do not know if he is related to Per). I have almost no information on them. I suspect they married in Sweden and later came to the United States. I do know they had three children: August A. Johnson, Martin A. Johnson, Betsy. I do not know whether the children were born in Sweden, but that is likely. I do not know Mrs. Anders Jonson's first name.

Karna had a brother (known as John Anderson in the U. S.). I have no other information about him.

An obituary from about 1920 in the U. S. stated that there was a brother in Sweden and a sister in Denmark. A second cousin of mine said that (from looking at Swedish history) this Denmark might not be the actual country known today as Denmark.

Looking for relitives in Norway John P. Jonson & Gertrude Anderson

My name is Bruce Johnson and I am looking for family in Norway. My Grandfather came to the US at the age of 16. He was the youngest of 13 children. The story goes that he had come from a wealthy family and had fallen in love with one of his family's maids. He and his dad had a fight and he got on a ship and came to the US. I just received his US military record, he was in the Navy from Aug 29th 1883 to Sept 16th 1886.his father was John P. Jonson Esq. and his mother was Gertrude Anderson. He was born (we beleave in Notto, Norway) July 15 in either 1861 or 1865. He died in Sept. 25 1934. He served on the USS Trenton durning his military services. I was told that two of his sisters married German men so they may have moved to Germany at some point. I am told that my grandmother changed their name to Johnson to sound more american. Thank you for any information that may help in my search. bjohns8@maine.rr.com

Jonson- piano maker, traveled Europe with friend Carl Nordlin

My great grandfather was Carl Nordlin from Sweden. Before he got married he and a good friend ? Jonson traveled all over Europe looking for work. They mostly were piano makers.
Carl came to America and so did his friend but I don;t know when his friend did. I do have a picture taken at a Minneapolis photographer probably in the 1890's. It is of a man, woman, and their young son about 2 years old. My Dad wrote on the back of it: Jonson? - Nordlin's travel partner
I hope there is somewhere out there that know more about this particular Mr. Jonson. Please email me at MandMWilda@aol.com or MandMWilda@comcast.net

Wilda Shelly

L H Jonson and dau Violetta Jonson (Jonston/Johnson/Johnston)

Have 15,800 people on my tree, back to 1700's, up 16 branches, but can't find a thing on my great-grandmother! I think she was beamed down from a galaxy far far away.
Her maiden name was Violetta B. aka Letta Jonson. Her marriage certificate she was 19, born in Ohio. Father's name is L. H. Jonston but the "t" is very dark, as if it was added later. She was married 'at the residence of the bride's parents" in Middlefork Township, Vermilion County, IL on 10/18 1883. (a farming community 7 miles east of the Illinois/Indiana border on the east border of Illinois, halfway down, between Indianapolis, Indiana and Champaign/Urbana, IL along Highway 74). That would make her birthdate 1864.

Does anyone know of her, or might you have a lead for me?

The link below is to my homepage with all 15,800 other folks who are not so elusive!
