I am looking for any information on Lodewicus Jordaan born about 1880 and died about 1907-10 possibly in the Bechuanaland area. Lodewicus married Susanna Catharina Lombard b. 3 Jun 1884 Bloemfonteinm SA - d. near the Rhodesian border during the Spanish flu epidemic about 1916. Susanna was the d/o Jacobus Marthinus Lombard and Anna Sophia Linde. Lodewicus was believed to have been a farmer and trekker. It is unknown where and how he died.
Susanna had children:
Anna Sofia Jordaan b. 27 Feb 1903 Serowe, Bechuanaland - d. 13 Jun 1982 Warwick, Qld, Australia. m. (1) 1926 Bertie William Cooper, children Marjorie, William, Lilian and Memorie (2) c1936 Oswald Burnaby Pike, child Oswald jnr. Anna and Oswald owned 2 mines in Gwelo, one being the Golden Eagle, now owned by Rio Tinto. Anna was a dressmaker.
Christina Magdalena Jordaan b. 28 Feb 1904 - d. (murdered) Jun 1886 Gwelo, Sth Rhodesia. m. Thom Mcneilage. They lived in Livingston. Once owned the Fairmont Hotel in Livingston. Only had 1 child - Stillborn.
Louis Jordaan b. abt 1905. Little is known of him other than he lived in Livingston, married a lady called Anne or Anna and had 2 boys called Johnny and Freddie. It is thought that Johnny was a radio announcer in Johannesburg.
After the death of Lodewicus Jordaan, Susanna is believed to have married(?) another man and had a child called Susan or Susanna abt 1907-10, surname unknown. Susan may or may not have been a van Staden. All we know of Susan is that she married Michael Murphy and had 2 boys called Thomas and Michael. Thomas was said to be a good diver but died after an accident in his late teens. Susan and her family lived in Salisbury. Susan was a dressmaker in Salisbury, mainly making wedding or evening dresses.
Susanna Lombard married a man by the name of van Staden (christian name unknown) and had children Koos and Katie.
Koos (Jacobus?) van Staden born about 1909-1914. He lived in Livingston, married a lady called Kate and had 2 boys called Freddie and Hennie. Nothing else is know about him.
Katie van Staden died along with both her parents during the Flu epedemic about 1916. She is believed to have only been a baby at the time.
They are beleived to have been on a trek to Rhodesia and the remaining children continued on to Livingston with their relatives from the Lombard family and were cared for by a Lombard aunt.
Any information (or corrections to mine) would be greatly appreciated. We know almost nothing about Lodewicus Jordaan and would love to find out about him.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
