My husband's grandfather Wladyslaw (Walter) STAPINSKI came to Wilmerding, PA in 1910 from Poland. On his papers from Ellis Island it states he was coming to be with his cousin Jozef JOZEFCZYK (1892-1963). My husband knows that they were cousins but has no information on what side of his grandfather's family. I would be interested to hear if anyone might have any information that might help me connect them.

Hi. I was just browsing around to see what my grandmother's surname meant and I stumbled on this thread. My grandmother is Virginia Beigie Raphael. She is from Cleveland, Ohio. She still has family memebers living in that area. If you need any information to connect your geneaology, you can send me an email at taddycat@yahoo.com. She has lived in Ohio pretty much her whole life. I know she has family in Ohio, PA, and Canada. She is also still with us and can answer questions you may have.

I am trying to pin down the family of my grandmother Caroline Matusz. She married John (Jan) Jozefczik or Jozefczyk. He was born 27 NOV 1886 in Iskrzynia, Poland. he was supposed to have arrived in 1906, but I think it may have been a couple of years earlier. His parents were, Wojciech JOZEFCZIK and Telka SZAJNA. In my grandmother's funeral book, it notes nieces and nephew's from McKees Rocks, PA having sent a flower basket. it also, has a John and Tekla Matusz. I am presuming this is husband and wife as I did find a Tekla and John Matusz on the 1920 census for North Versailles, Allegheny co. PA
Also, mentioned as relatives were: Millie Novock; B. Balawajobi, or Balowojobi; John Novock.

Hope this might ring a bell with someone.
Thank you in advance.
Jane
My great-grandmother's name was Josefa Jozefcki (b abt 1843) from home. She was married to Franciszek Przbysz (b abt 1851 d abt 1925). From a recent translation their son Wladyslaw (Walter) Przybysz (b 15 Jun 1886 Goszczewo Poland d 1969 Buffalo NY) was baptised the following day in the parish Sluhevo. Walter later married Antonina Rutkowska (b 1884 Poland d 1935 Buffalo NY), daughter of Joseph and Katarzyna Rutkowski. Walter had a sister named Josephine (b abt 1879 or 1883 d 1953 Buffalo NY). She was married in Poland to Jozef Sikorski (b abt 1885 or 1888 d abt 1920 Buffalo NY). Walter had another brother named Wojciech, who took the name Walter Presby (b abt 1883 d 1936 Michigan). This brother married Rose Grabowska on 28 Dec 1903 in Ostrowas, Poland. I apologize if the towns are mispelled. Also, my Walter notated that his mother's maiden name was Jousiak on his SS-5 application.

I haven't been in contact in a long time Wendy, and I couldn't help but note some new spellings added. And now this new post, welcome. I have pictures of family I think. I do have 2 pictures that are marked by my mother as Granddad Jozefczik and his sisters and mother and a wedding picture. If you have any old pictures that you could compare them with I would be happy to scan them and email to you direct.

So far this is what was found in Poland for me:
Book of births: Iskrzynia years 1841-1889, page 221, house number 165
Jan Jozefczyk born on 22 Nov., baptized on 23 Nov. 1866
His parents were: Wojciech Jozefczyk & Tekla Szajna
Parents of Wojciech & grandparents of Jan were: Jan Jozefczyk & Anna Wawrzkowicz
Parents of Tekla were: Stanislaw Szajna & Katarzyna Filar

Siblings of Jan:

Brother: Jozef Jozefczyk (son of Wojciech & Tekla Szajna) born on 26 July 1881 probably in Haczowa. I presume that Wojciech & Tekla used to live in Haczowa. Jozef married Agnieszka Liput & they had 4 children: Karolina born in 1910, Maria born in 1915 - she probably still lives in Kombornia but doesn' t remember anything, Karol born in 1917 - died in Pustyny on 12 Nov. 1993. His grandson Richard (Ryszard) lives in Kroscienko, Jan born in 1924.

Sister: Balbina Jozefczyk (daughter of Wojciech & Tekla Szajna) page 211, born on 7 bapt. on 9 April 1884. Died on 11 Sept. 1951.The godparents were Piotr Szajna & Anna Szajna from Haczowa which might mean that Jozef Jozefczyk & Tekla Szajna moved to Iskrzynia from Haczowa.

Even though I was serching books from 1841, I didn't find Wojciech birth nor marriage records. I didn't find baptismal record of Joseph born in 1881. I think that Wojciech & Tekla moved to Iskrzynia after Jozef was born & before Balbina was born in 1884. If Wojciech had lived in Iskrzynia earlier there should have been birth record & banns. Information about Jozef son of Jan I got from the Iskrzynia list of parishioners.

Signed: Father Jan Szpunar

If this connects with you or anyone, please contact me direct at jcgrezlik@bright.net
Thank you,
Jane

My great grandfather was Jan Jozefczyk, settled outside of Pittsburgh PA in a town called Trafford. He worked at Westinghouse in the foundry. He still has sons there. Do you know what town in Poland. My ggrandfather also had a second cousin named Jan Jozefczyk. If you have a DOB I can tell you which one it might be, they are 6 months from each other in age. Both are deceased. My ggrandfather had two brothers that came to PA but did not like it here and went back to Poland-Kroscienko. His cousin was from Krosno.

Possible Jozefczyk connection - Pennsylvania

My grandmother, Anna (Sroka) Morajda, arrived from Poland in 1912 . On the ship's manifest, her destination was the home of her cousin "Jan Jozefczyk" in Donora, Pa. Also, on the ships manifest, just before my grandmother's name was a "Malgorzata Bem" who was going to the same address and Jan Jozefczyk is listed as her brother-in-law. My mom says that her mom had relatives in Donora, Wilmerding and McKeesport. My grandmother married my grandfather, Joseph Morajda, in 1920 and they lived in South Side, Pittsburgh, Pa., and then moved to Groveton, Pa (now part of Coraopolis, Pa) about 8 years later.. I have pictures of my grandmother's cousin's wedding that she was a bridesmaid in. Don't know any names, or which cousins. I also have letters that need to be translated.

My mother, Blanche Jozefczik Smith, noted in her mother's, Caroline Matusz Jozefczik, funeral book that there were 2 other children a Theodore and Helen in the family. But she never mentioined them at any time while I was growing up. Odd that this obit should list a Theodore and a Helen in what would appear the right time frame. Is there any information on the parents?
Thank you. Jane

The only Eugene I could find was in the 1930 census, I think one in NY and the in WI. Do you know what village in Poland your grandfather was from? Are you 100% sure of his first name. I recently helped a friend find her grand father and the first and middle names were switched around, I eventually found him, but needed more information. Do you have a birth date for Eugene? For your grandmother? Do you know what your fathers uncle's names are? If I have this info I might be able to help you. You can email me the information if you feel more comfortable in keeping this information private. I do have a lot of information in my files on Wojnowski, I would have to dig through what I've collected over the years and would be happy to help you.

Wendy

I am searching for my Wojnowski/a relatives. My grandfather Eugenius Wojnowski immigrated to the US in 1912, along with his wfe Zofia (Mary) Sielecka Wojnowska. His mother, Staulawa and his sister, Mary Wanda soon followed. They moved to Florida. I am seeing the same few names crop up repeatedly, and I don't think it is a coincidence. My father is Edward, and I have uncles John and Walter, and Aunt Lillian. Lillian's daughter is named Helen. I have seen all of these names appear in various indexes on Ancestry.com. I know my grandfather had other brothers and sisters, but I don't know how many actually made it over from Poland. Any help greatly appreciated.
