Re: Jozwiak of Baltimore, MD

While searching the Maryland Death Index on the state's Vital Records DB, I found a Martin Jozwiak with a date of death of March 11, 1911. Cemetery unknown at this time. I need to go down to the state (MD) archives to get it.

This would be a strong candidate for my paternal grandmother's first husband. She (Anna Mazan) entered the US in 1910, and later married my paternal grandfather (Piotr Jacob Stec) on Oct. 25, 1914.
I suppose the English name Martin is either Marcin or Marcinek in Polish.
More info will follow when I get it.
Greg Stec
k3ang@yahoo.com

Jozwiak of Baltimore, Md.

This is an update from 2001. I mentioned then my paternal grandmother was briefly married to a Jozwiak (3 months). He died by drowning. The family story is he fell off the dock (he was working?). I recently (12/13/2008) found a notice in the Maryland Archives Death Index of a MARTIN JOZWIAK, with a date of death of March 23, 1911. I am going to send for a copy of the death certificate to confirm or deny that this person was married to my father's mother (her name would be on the certificate) and post my findings here. The date of death does look 'good' to me because my paternal grandmother entered the US in 1910 and was married my grandfather on Oct. 25, 1914

At first i was in awe that anyone knew the name! I have been very frustrated, especially being new to this. You got further then i did. I've known the name Jesse Dugan all my life but never knew he was married to family. You seem to have more info but i'll swap what i have. Iam John and Helen(youzwak) Williams' granddaughter.Helen child of William Youzwak and Anna Gondek. There are a thousand Gondek's. She was from Laczki,Brzeskac. That's what was on her obituary. Parents were Paul and Catherine Skrzypek. I'll keep an eye out for a reply.

Houston Chronicle April 5, 2006

A truck driver has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for killing 10 people when he fell asleep and his tractor-trailer crossed a median into oncoming traffic on a busy North Texas highway. Miroslaw Janusz Jozwiak, a Polish immigrant, pleaded guilty to 10 counts of manslaughter in the 2004 crash that also injured two others. He will serve the sentences concurrently as part of his plea agreement.

Paper: HOUSTON CHRONICLE
Date: THU 12/02/2004

SHERMAN / Trucker indicted in fatal pileup

A Grayson County grand jury Wednesday indicted a Florida trucker on nine felony manslaughter charges stemming from a multi-vehicle wreck near Sherman this fall. Ten people died in the Sept. 20 accident on U.S. 75 after an 18-wheeler driven by Miroslaw Janusz Jozwiak of Daytona Beach crossed a median before plowing into a sport utility vehicle and a pickup. Five people in the truck were killed. The five victims in the SUV were a McKinney mother, her three young children and their grandmother. "We continue to gather evidence on this driver, and so we have held back one case from presentation to the grand jury in order to take additional testimony," said Grayson County Attorney Joe Brown.

Rachel, are you still out there? My husband's Jozwiak family is from Detroit. They immigrated between 1880-82. Their names were Albert & Agnes Jozwiak and their children were Henry, Frank, (unnamed female who died as a child), Martin, Cecelia, John (Jack), Albert (Bert), Max, Peter and Felix (Philip). Please reply if you're out there and still looking and any of these people sounds familiar to you.
Joseph Yoswick, South Carolina 1850 - 1860

I'm searching for any kind of information about the family of Joseph Yoswick, age abt. 53 in 1860 according to the census, located in Union County S.C.. His wifes name was Sarah, age 57 and siblings Prussia (f) age 20, and Washington (m) age 17. Living next door was Pleasant Yoswick (m) age 27, Frances (f) age 24 and a Thomas Burnett (m) age 12 in the household. In 1860 Pleasant and Frances have a son James, age 7 and an infant male. The census indicates that Joseph and Sarah were born in N.C., and the remainder born in South Carolina. If you know anything about them, I would apppreciate hearing from you. I don't know if this is the correct spelling of the surname since census takers I believe spelled by sound. I found Joseph and Sarah in 1860, living alone. The way the name was spelled at that time wasn't even a name. My email is:
kensparks @bellsouth.net

I found my great grandmother came to the US thru Ellis Island in 1911. It lists her last place of residence as Roslopy, Russia but she is of Polish decent. I can not find anything on this town. Do you have some suggestions on how to find this town? And how do I trace down her parents? I have no information at all on them.
I would appreciate your help so much. I am at a complete lost trying to do this. It is my fathers family and there is nobody for me to ask questions so everything I find out has been some what of a small miracle.

Thank you again,
Becky

You posted a message to the Ancestry.com message board on October 11, 2004, so I don’t know if this address is still valid. Anyway, William Youzwak was my granduncle (husband of Anna Gondek). He was the brother of my grandmother, Frances E. Youzwak, who married my grandfather, Jesse Dugan, from Chatham, NY (they eventually settled in Valatie). I have only been able to trace the Youzwaks back to their immigration from Poland. Apparently, Michael (William’s father) immigrated in 1885 from Russia/Poland (I guess the two countries were one and the same at various points in history).

I have more information on my side (Dugans), but I haven’t had much luck with the Youzwaks. Maybe I will start looking for Jozwiak now that I have found your message.

Thanks, and feel free to contact me. I do have some information on the Youzwak family moving forward (descendants), but it’s not a lot.

Ron Dugan
