Hello,
My Grandfather Fred Moffet researched the Moffet family which is related to the Yuckienuz family and your relatives are in our family tree.
I see that your post was made about 8 years ago, but on the off chance that you are still checking this, I was wondering what else you know about Mary Yuckienuz (daughter of Joseph and Sophia). I am trying to put together my family history and I think she is my grandmother on my father's side. Anything you might be able to tell me about her would be useful as she is turning out to be the most difficult person to locate in my family.

We may very well be related, but my great grandmother's (Stanislawa Juchniewicz Kalkowski) nieces and nephews were all in NJ in the 60's or possibly in Europe. There may have been family out on Long Island, since my great Aunt Jean, Stanislawa's daughter, married a man from Fisher's Island and I often wondered how she met him. Minsk was the capitol of Belarus where my Juchniewiczes were from and my great grandfather, the man who married Stanislawa, was Piotr Kalkowski or Kalkaskaus and he was born in Vilnius, Lithuania and there was Stanislawa's Uncle Julius who had a factory in Vilnius, so my family's Vilnia connection is there too - so we're probably related somehow.

Hi Isabel. She is not the Genowefa in my post, as my Aunt Jean was born in 1913 in Newark, NJ and she married Roy Hines from Fisher's Island. They were childless and they lived out their lives in Union, NJ. But Genowefa may have been a family name, and some of the family could have remained in Europe, not just Anthony, so I would think we are at least cousins. As I said in my post, the Juchniewiczes lived in Belarus and I know there was some connection to Vilnius, which is in Lithuania, since there seems to have been an Uncle Julius who had a factory in Vilnius - so northern Poland fits in that scenario too.

Hi Jessie! You posted me a message 7 years ago in ancestry.com and I'm pretty sure I replied to you, but I'm not positive and I don't think I had the information then that I have now. Of the Juchniewicz branch I am from, one of the Juchniewicz siblings, a brother, remained in Europe and did settle in Germany. The others - Stanislawa, Elzbieta and Wandalin (not sure of that spelling) came to New Jersey around 1900 or so. Perhaps you are descended from the brother who emigrated to Germany. I will have to search through my information for this brother's name, I think it may have been Anthony, I'm not sure why that name pops into my head, but it does. I thought his name was Julius, but Julius may have been an uncle from the other side of my great-grandmother's family (Elzbieta Juchniewicz Kalkowski). As I think I wrote you before, the Juchniewiczes were ethnically Polish, but they lived in what is now Belarus and in an area that was considered Russia in the late 1800's and early 1900's. hope this helps.

Juchniewicz Family Ancestory-Amsterdam NY or St. Louis, MO Areas

I am trying to find information on my Juchniewicz ancestors that lived in the Amsterdam, NY Area 1905-1910 and St. Louis Missouri Area 1910-current. They were originally from Lithuania and went by the Surname Juchnevicius there.

Antoni Juchniewicz arrived at Ellis Island 05 Jun 1905 and moved to Amsterdam, NY to work in the rug mills.
His wife, Antainia Sirkus (Juchniewicz) arrived at Ellis Island on 29 May 1906 with their son Stanislaus and Antoni's brother Jan Juchniewicz.
Another Brother, Josef Juchniewicz and his wife Sophia Karpowecz (Juchniewicz) arrived at Ellis Island on 14 Jun 1907 and moved to Amsterdam NY. They lived on Corey Street. Josef and Sophia had 2 children while living in Amsterdam, NY. Pauline born 07 Feb 1907 and Vincent born 09 April 1909.
Vincent was baptized at St. Casimer's Church at 260 East Main St.

They moved to St. Louis, Missouri around 1910. Josef's family lived there the whole time. Antoni's family moved across the river to East St. Louis, IL. Jan moved out of town and I have been unable to locate any further details about him.

If you have any information about the Juchniewicz family history in this line please let me know. I look forward to hearing from you.

I don't know that much about my ancestors, but my gradmother's maiden name was Genowefa Juchniewicz (born July 7, 1926... I'm pretty sure in what is now norhtern Poland), who married a Wojcziech Antoni Juniewicz (odd last name parellism there... I was originally convinced that there had to be some error...). I'm not sure if this is the same Genowefa as mentioned in your post, but if it is, feel free to contact me (isajun1@gmail.com). I'm visiting some relatives this summer, so I ought to find out more by then.

I am so excited at finding your post from April. I think we are related and that my late mother Stephanie was your grandfather's niece. Her parents were Witold (Victor) and Anna (Kozar) Yuchniewicz of Glen Cove, although my mother actually was born in Newark, N.J. My grandfather, who was from Minsk, had a brother Konstanty and a brother Antony. My grandmother was from Vilnia. Did your grandparents live on George Street in Glen Cove? Did your grandfather Konstanty's wake take place during the Great New York Blackout in the 60's? Maybe at the Kramer Funeral Home? If so,I was there. Wishing you peace and joy.

I've learned a bit more since my 2001 posting. Julius was not a brother, he was an uncle or a family friend. There was another brother whose name was Antony who stayed in Europe. He may have wound up in Germany. I think one of the postings re: Juchniewicz is from his descendant there.

My great aunt Patti, born Petronella Kalkowski in 1918 to Stanislawa "Stella" Juchniewicz and Piotr "Peter" Kalkowski is still alive. I believe Jadwiga "Hedy" Juchniewicz Stopa is also still alive. Stanislawa died at the age of 34 from a heart attack. She had had 7 children: Boleslaw "Bob", Peter, Amelia, Elzbieta (whom the called "Jule" after Uncle Julius - she was my grandmother), Genowefa "Jean", Helen and Petronella "Patti".

I actually got some updated info from my cousin, Peter Stopa, whose mother Jadwiga "Hedy" Juchniewicz, is my grandmother's first cousin. Hedy's parents were Wandalyn and Emilia. My cousin explained to me that although the Juchniewicz's were Polish ethnically, they were born in Belarus. During that period of time Poland really didn't exist. It was partitioned among Russia, Austria-Hungary, and Prussia. The part where the family came from was in the Northeast corner that was part of Russia at the time. Throughout history the borders of Poland changed many times. At one point, it was actually the largest country in Europe and included Lithuania, Belarus, and a few other places.

This is the info on his branch : Emilia (Dziezyc), actually had 9(?) children, 4 of whom survived to adulthood. They were Marianna (Mamie) (1909 - born in Poland or Belarus); Helen (1912) - born in Newark); Edward 1915; and Jadwiga 1920 (Peter's mother). The others died during the Influenza epidemic.

Wandalyn is how you spelled Peter's grandfather's name. They came from Maly Puchaczy that is currently in Belarus. It was either Peter's grandfather or grandmother that was orphaned twice. One parent died and the other remarried and then the other parent died. Peter's grandmother came from Wielki puchaczy (He may have this backwards - ). Peter thought that his grandfather wound up marrying his second step sister??????

Mamie married John DeLuca in 1925 and they were childless. He died in his sleep in 1968. Edward died of a heart attack on May 23, 1964. He was 49 and has heart trouble from his late 30's. He and Helen (1912-1996; Feb 14 was her birthday) never married.

I posted this since my cousin, Peter Stopa, passed away last October from cancer.

I don't know if this will help you or not, but I was born with the last name of Yuchniewicz. My father told me that his mother was from Vilnius and his father from Minsk, which is in Belarus. In researching the last name and looking at passenger manifests, I realized the unlikely spelling of the name and that it likely was Juchniewicz. I found a record of my grandmother's trip back to Poland in 1936 but cannot find any further records. I'm not sure what name they used for census reports. Her name was Teofila and his was Konstanty. They were both born in the 1880's and lived in Glen Cove, NY, I believe from the time they arrived in the early 1900's. My father, John, was born here in 1912 and he was the oldest of their children. If this helps at all or makes other connections for you, please let me know. It sounds as if we have ancestors in common.

( 31 October 1907). It is stamped with the Russian Imperial General Consulate stamp & marked with 3 rubles. She claimed her family came from Lithuania. The Baptism took place in Bloomfield, New Jersey.

Her father was Casimir Juchniewicz
Her mother was Angalae Kinder

The God Parents were:

Casolus (sp?)
My cousin recently informed me that we had an Anthony Juchniewicz in our branch of the Juchniewicz family, but we think he stayed behind in Europe. There were at least four siblings, Wandalyn, Anthony, Stanislawa and Elzbieta. Wandalyn, Stanislawa and Elzbieta came to America and settled in New Jersey in the early 1900's. I am Stanislawa's great granddaughter. Our branch of the family came from Maly Puchaczy, now in Belarus.

I wanted to let you know that the original spelling was Juchniewicz. But as long as I can remember they used the spelling as Yuckienuz. That is over 60 years. They lived in Bridgeport, Ct

Fred Moffet

I don't think our families are related although the last name is not common. My grandfather Anthony Joseph immagrated about 1900 from Bavaria and my grandmother Sophia Bogacz from Austria on or about the same time. She came to her sisters home in 3 Rivers Massachuets by the name of Maryanna Bogacz Sapliela. I remember telling me he had a brother here but he never mentioned his name. How my grandparents met and got married I don't know. I know they lived in Mississippi because my mother was born there. They also lived in Shelton and Bridgeport Ct. Their childrens names were Leo, William, Anna, Margaret and Mary. I hope this will help in any of your reserach. I am also reseaching my family. My biggest problem is that my fathers ancesters died before I was born. If you have any other questions be free to e-mail me at Fredmoffet@aol.com.

My father's name was William and my grandfather's name was Wycliffe. I know that my grandfather had a number of brothers and sisters, William, Edward, Laddy, Vincent and a sister named Sophie--these are all the names that I can remember. There was another brother who lived in Newington, Connecticut who changed his surname to Jacko. I think his first name was John. I did visit my grandfather's brother, Laddy in California when I was eight or nine years old. I am presently 46 years old and living in Connecticut. So I know that there are relatives in California. Please let me knowif this helps as I am interested in my family tree.
Dear Jessie:
My Juchniewicz ancestors were of Polish ethnicity but were born and bred in Vilnius, Lithuania, which was considered part of Russia at the time. My great grandmother was Stanislawa Juchniewicz and when she was 16 (around 1905) she came to America to marry Piotr Kalkowski (Lithuanian version of his name - Kalkaskaus?), an arrangement made by Stanislawa's older brother whose name was Vondalin (not sure of the spelling). Stanislawa and her husband had 2 sons and 5 daughters. Her brother Vondalin and his wife had 3 daughters. My great grandmother had an older sister, Elzbieta Juchniewicz, who also came to the United States. She married twice and had two sons. My great grandmother also had a favorite uncle named Julius, who may or may not have been a Juchniewicz. He remained behind in Russia/Lithuania and owned a factory in Vilnius. I'm not sure about any of the other Juchniewicz's who came from Russia/Lithuania that were my ancestors. I hope this helps you in your search.

Hi Staci,

I wanted to let you know that I messed up on the reply I sent to you about Frederick L. Moffet and Anna Yuckienuz. Anna was my father's mother who married an Anthony Juchniewicz which died in Bridgeport, CT on 11 Nov 1951. Anthony's wife was Sophia Bogacz which was born in Austria in 1886 and migrated to the United States at the age of 17 in 1903.

Sincerely,
Maureen Reeve
dmpkfam@tds.net

Hello Staci,

I was wondering if the name if the name of Anna Yuckienuz sounds familiar to you. She is the daughter of the Anthony Juchniewicz and Sophia Bogacz. She was also my grandmother that passed away in January 1998. My father Frederick L. Moffet has been looking for any Juchniewicz family members and has been going to a gentleman by the name of William Barker in Shelton CT for information reguarding the Moffet's and the Juchniewicz families.

If you don't mind I would like to give my father your e-mail address and maybe you two can communicate more in depth with that part of the family.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Maureen Reeve
dmpkfam@tds.net

Maureen,

So excited to have a response! I'm wondering if Anthony and William are related. It's a long shot but is definitely worth looking in to. I've hit a wall on the migration of William and wonder if the name change will help me there. That family is all from CT and some still remain there today! I am in CA with my husband Joel. My email is sjuchniewicz@msn.com and would love to correspond with you! I'll check with my mother in law to see if she knows much more about William's siblings, etc, as my father in law passed away not long ago. Thanks Again

Staci Juchniewicz

A friend of mine is named "Mowid", and I wondered what it meant. I found 44 people with Mowid family surname at www.whowhere.com

They're mostly in Michigan, it looks like. Several appear to be duplicate listings.

My cousins and I are attempting to trace our ancestry in the Vilnius area branch of the Jucniewicz clan. The siblings of this branch were Stanislawa, Elzbieta, Wandalen and Julius. The first three emigrated to New Jersey in the early 1900's or so. Julius remained in the Vilnius area. I am interested in any information on the parents/grandparents, etc. of this Juchniewicz family branch and about any relatives still in Europe.
