Melvina Jude/George Washington Likens

My maiden name is Likens. My Dad is James William-son of Jimmison-son of James Floyd--son of George Washington Likens. I need help finding out who G.W's father was. I am having a devil of a time! I also am trying to work it backward from the Swedish Lycon. My part of the family went from PA to VA to West Virginia where my grandfather was born. His family moved to Duplin and Onslow Counties in NC. Any help would be most appreciated!!

I found your post from 2008. My daughter is trying to track down the Jude's from Maple Lake area. Her husband is from Maple Lake. She has a good start on the geneaology but cannot find how they got to Maine and everyone is saying that the Kentucky Judes are not related to the MN Jude's.

If you will tell me what you know or would like to know,I'll share all I know with you.Do you know about George Jude & wife, all four of his daughters and their husbands,his son George Jr.,as well as their children,and slaves, moved from Campbell co. Va. to Giles co. Tn and Madison co Al. about 1809 or 10.They stayed together, just happens the border divided the farms of these families. This one has been difficult but I'm leaning towards a John (b)abt 1884 & Rosa (b)abt.1886 They are in the right area about the right time & one of their children is listed as Elliott. Wish I could be of more help. Also,There is an Elizabeth Roberts who md. into the Mullins, who md. into the Jude family. Her fthr was James Robert s/o Cornelius Roberts. So, I'm wondering if there is a relationship there. Let me know if you come onto anything, please.

LONDONDERRY: Warren W. Jude, 86, of Londonderry, Ohio died 7:40 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012 in Pickering House, Lancaster, Ohio following a brief illness.

He was born January 13, 1926, in Inez, Kentucky (Martin County) to the late Ballard Scott and Martha Jude.
On July 28, 1968, he married the former Kathryn J. Walsh who died August 7, 2011.

Surviving are children, Ruby V. LeVally, of Park Hills, KY, Fredrick L. (Diana) Cook, of Orville, OHIO, Ernest (Dee) Jude, of Columbus, Ohio, Archie (Jeri) Jude, of Columbus, Lacy Jude, of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Debbie (Ben) Imes, and Paris Jude, both of Londonderry; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; sisters, Omamae (Fred) Harrison, Mary Cobb, both of Florida and Sally Muncy, of Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother and stepfather, Martha and John Jude; father, Ballard Scott; a son, Donnie Jude; sisters, Lulabell Gross, Arizona Sawyer and Polly and Molly Jude; and brothers, Andy, Stephen and David Jude.

Warren served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked in construction and was a member of Laborers' Union #423 of Columbus, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Timothy Lee officiating.
Burial will follow in Boblett Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County, Ohio Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call at Ware's from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

actually, John jude was first married to addie mae shaffer may of 1919 in logan county west virginia she was born in williamson in 1903..if is was a dils she may have married after uncle john...uncle john married minta (not minnie)and had 10 children. some still live in gilbert wva.

aunt...I am emma's daughter. you and your mom visited us in Lexington when you were about 6 or 7. the last time I saw aunt mossie was in florida at Beulah's house.

I have never replied to a question before. but I thought I might let you know what I know. John jude was my uncle, my mother being emma and mossie my aunt. rex, from what I understand was uncle john's son by a first marriage. floyd
my grandfather was last married to fannie compton..his 3rd wife. no information, that I can find, exists on floyd's first wife, amanda murphy jude, except the first name of her mother...mary ann. if you find any info on amanda murphy, I would really appreciate your forwarding it to me.

This is Jason Jude son of Clinton Jude, Grandson of the Will and Charity Jude. You have probably heard a thousand different stories in which all the research I have done I have checked every data base around the world. And I have concluded that it is the oringal name but it has been changed to Fredrick and back to Jude again. It comes from the Holy City of Jerusleum. That the name Jude comes from Jesus's brother Judea. He left the Holy City to leave from persacution. That he was in Germany when he changed his name to Fredrick, which was suggusted by people from France. And they ended up migrating towards England where is which the family crest comes from. From then it does not say, besides from the World Book Of Judes. I had that book but over the course of years it got lost, or my brother Charlie still has it. That was the last time I seen it. But if anyone wants to know how to find this infomation give me a hollar. On this website

My grtgmthr was Belle Jude, her parents were John & Martha Jude, his parents were Nathan Fredrick Jude & Mary Blankenship & his parents were John Jude & Martha Boney. I recently was in touch with her grandson and found that they were Jewish from Ireland. Has anyone come across this? We all lived in Matewan, Wv. Logan Co. at one time. I was surprised by this as my grdmthr never mentioned it. Any info would be welcomed.

The listing for Judes, mentions a Mourning Miranda Rutherford.

I looked, all the Fredericks listed at Ysearch but one were J2, which means they are Jews. The Judes otherwise were listed as being from County Wicklow, Ireland.

So, could The Molly/Mary Jude born in 1775, have actually been covering for Jewish ancestry, and her second marriage be mentioning that since the pronunciation was Jude, for a Judd? I'd like to know, was friends with a Perry whose mother is a Jude, was attempting to find out.
Jumping over the river, escaping knowledge of a murder. I heard the Great Grandfather had "died" in a mine, in KY.

Can anyone clear this up for me?

Lengthy retelling of the same Jude fight.

The Hager family has printed lengthy Lewis lies. I was also talking to a woman named Doris Jude, first in person in Wayne in a family history house, saw Basil Lewis die in 1976 when she was working as a waitress, then claimed otherwise. Kept swearing to me while on the phone, I got her phone number from an Osborne man.

Can anyone give me the straight truth? Anytime anything seems to touch Wayne County, that seems to change strangely.

Perhaps we should name this CSI: Wayne County.

Does anyone share this ancestor? George Jude was a member of the Continental Army at Valley Forge with George Washington, according to the Alabama Sons of American Revolution. He came to Madison County, AL when it was still a territory. I would like to know where he came from and anything about his family, including his wife's correct name: Watson or Walton?

Larry Davis here. I spent a lot of time at your grandparents house when I was growing up. W. always referred to my grandmother as "Aunt Mornine" She was the daughter of David Jude and Sarah Fraley. I remember seeing Sarah. She lived to in her late 90's. I think her offical name was Morning but she always spelled it "Mornine". She was married to Sunny Triplett who was the son of Bunyan Triplett. Granny's siblings were Jack, John, Lewis, Sonny, Patty Bowles and Mary Duncan. They were all alive when I was a kid but Sonny died in a little house near the mouth of Peter Cave when I was a boy. She had a sister who died as a child from burns she sutained when her dress caught on fire from the open fire place.
My mother was Marie Triplett and my father was Winford Davis. Granny always told that there were three Fredrick boys who were the first Judes to come into that part of Ky. They swam the Ohio River somewhere and I believe I saw in a census that Granny's mother Sarah was from Indiana. Somewhere, I heard they were wanted by the law, not for a crime but because they had witnessed one so they changed their name to Jude, taking it from a book of the Bible. This is all handed down legend so I do not know how reliable it is. She said one of the boys almost drowned trying to swim the river but just as he gave up, they were on a sand bar. He rested and swam the rest of the way. My grandmother said she heard a story from her grandmother, who I believe was a Rutherford, that one of the Armies during the Civil War, she wasn't sure which one, had come to Three Forks to recruit the boys for the war and they hid in the hills to avoid being taken. Several years ago I saw a genalogy record somewhere that listed the Judes for seven generations back and gave the birthplace of the patriarch as Germany.

My Grandmother, Rebecca Jude Crum had a brother named Harisson Jude. They grew up in Wayne County, West Virginia. Rebecca married Christopher Columbus Crum who was killed by man who mistook him for another Crum My Grandfather Christopher worked on the railroad.
