A number of years ago I bought a top hat in its box from an antique store that was going out of business in Nova Scotia. The box had labels showing it was in stateroom baggage of Cunard White Star's Ship Queen Mary. It was listed as being owned by D. H. Jupp who traveled first class from Southampton February 2nd 1938. I'm not related, just curious about who he was.

Hi, I searching for Michael Jupp on behalf of my Cousin in Stockton.
Last know whereabouts of him is Jesmond, Newcastle in 1963-4. He is living with his parents and brother. We think he was born about 1939-40.

Helen, My adopted cousin's father was Michael Jupp and lived in Newcastle upon Tyne prior to 1964. She thinks he was born about 1938 - 40. Does this coinside with any of your Jupp family.

My Greatgrandpa was an IOW jupe,who moved to london 1829,it;s my belief after muich reaserch that the jupes/jupps were called after the invasion and conquest of IOW by the jutes from Jutland in 500AD onwards.Still researching

Patricia Logan JUPP and John Thomas ORMSBY were my great grand parents and their son John Fredrick Ormsby b 5/5/1916 married Edna May Townson (b.11/5/1915) in 1933. Edna May Townson father was Thomas Townson and Catherine Barrett.

I have just started this and also finding this side of the family difficult.

I have traced Jupp back to 1515 Horsham, Sussex. Children of Rycherd Jobe, they changed the spelling to Jupp.

I am looking for any information regarding JUPP in Cheshire before 1835. I am particularly looking for James JUPP who was in Chester in Cheshire in 1834/1835 and "was late of Chroley in the County of Cheshire"
This James Jupp was possible born in London c1815 and was working as a Millsright Boy in 1834 in Chroley in the County of Cheshire.

Looks as if your Edward is prone to name changes. It appears that you are probably referring to Edwin Jupp, born in Pulborough, father Joseph, a Carpenter.

Have a look at the following information - hope it helps. Couldn't find the family on the 1861 census.

His birthplace is not too far off the mark, as by the time of the 1901 census the family lived at Nether Hallam, Yorkshire (Walkley Eccliastical Parish, Sheffield). Presumably they moved to Walkley soon after his birth.

Thats great news. His place of birth is a suprise because the SDGW records say he was born in Walkley, Sheffield. The medal could have been the 1914 Star, if it was a military medal.

Hello Robert,
Can't tell you much about him except the following:

Thomas was awarded a medal, the record being dated 8th Sept 1914.

Thomas was born Jun Qtr 1891 at Stoney Middleton, Derbyshire. His parents were Henry Jupp (a Boot & Shoemaker) of Stoney Middleton, and Annie Ford of Wolstanton, Staffs. They were married 1890 in Wolstanton, and Thomas had at least one sister, Nellie (b abt1900).

Henry had 5 siblings, born in Kent & Berkshire, but Thomas' grandfather (also a Henry) was born in Sussex, somewhere near Horsham abt 1812. This part of Sussex is where a large number of Jupps originate. My information doesn't take me any further as I run into too many Henrys!!

But it does appear that the main trade in this part of the family was Boot Maker/Cordwainer.

Not much help, but maybe something of use.

Sarah Jupp's parents were William Jupp, born 1782 in Angmering, Sussex, and Sarah Barton, born 1792 in Hadlow, Kent. They married 25 October 1811 in Hadlow, Kent. Other children were Mary, Elizabeth 1812, John 1815, William 1818, Ann 1820, George 1822, Henry 1829, Richard 1830 and Walter 1833. Some born in Hadlow, the rest in East Peckham, Kent UK.

I have an Eliza A Thompson who was born in East Peckham, Kent about 1846. She had a son called Richard Thompson. They moved to Romford Essex where she married a John Palmer. I have been researching the names on a memorial in Sheffield Cathedral which remembers the policemen and firemen who fell in the Great War 1914-18

The result of this research is on my website http://www.stannington.webitsmart.co.uk/ in the 'Sheffield' section. There are details relating to Thomas Jupp. He was a fireman. He died in Germany whilst a prisoner of war, 1915. I'd like to know details about his family and his career if possible.

Accordong to all censuses from 1881 to 1901 Joseph gives his birthplace as Surrey and birth year varies from 1849 in 1881 and 1891 censuses to 1851 in 1901 census. He is married to Jane McKinley in Northumberland in 1870 but I cannot find him or Jane in 1871 census. His first child Sarah Jane JUPP was born during the first quarter of 1871 in Newcastle district of Northumberland so I have assumed he was living there at that time. Other children are William (1874), Patricia Logan JUPP (1877, married John Thomas ORMSBY 1901), Joseph JUPP (1877, Patricia's twin brother) and Frederick JUPP (1880). All children were born in Newcastle district.
