Rose Mary Justice

A few years ago there was a woman that called my aunts house saying she was looking for her mother Rose Justice. But the person who answered the phone didn't know the story. March 26, 1959 Rose gave birth to a little girl and they told her that she died. The baby was born in Fayette County Kentucky at a home for unwed mothers. We do not believe that this little girl died and we would very much love to find out any information! There was a couple of girls that were there with Rose when the baby was born and they told that the baby was very much alive when she was born. So if anyone at all has any information please let me know! U can even email me at jordaynsmom_27@yahoo.com
Thank you!

Justices/Justus of Rabun Co., GA or William & Sarah Troutman Justice

I'm trying to get family trees related to William & Sarah Justice who came from Buncombe Co., NC, into Rabun Co., GA, abt. 1830. They are my ggg-grandparents. I am from Eli, their son. I have some family trees of Isaac and Eli, their sons, also Mary Polly a daughter (just recently discovered). Also Jenny, a daughter. Under Eli, I have a family tree of his son Francis Elisha and Sarah Jane Wilkins Justice., also one family line of Curtis Jasper and Caroline Justice/Justus. my family tree comes through James N. Justus, son of Eli. I have some info of families under James's son John Calvin and Laura Ann Moore.

James N. had 12 children and I have only info on a few of them. If anyone is related to any of these Justice/Justus names, and would furnish their family tree send me an email. I am planning on filing a family tree book in the Rabun Co., GA Historical family files.

AN EPIC BEGINNING - THE JUSTICE FAMILY

The initial draft of the Justice Family has been completed. Its close to 1300 pages and still adding more!! But it is at a point that it is useful to the descendants of William Justice and Marey Frame. If we can match up a relative I can advise you of a copy price based on the amount of pages involved, along with shipping. In the interest of continuing to expand the record, I would like to add your connection as well. I hope many of you will be pleased. donna

John Calvin Justice DOB 12/1/1860 m. Minnie Wade in TENN.

I am searching for John Calvin Justice parents. John is my ggandfather. I know his mother was Milly Ann Oliver (have pic). Census data says he & parents were born in Georgia. The only person I can find in Georgia married to a Milly Ann Oliver was Eli Justice. John Calvin traveled to TN and married Minnie Wade in Trousdale County on 12/4/1886, she was born 10/16/1868. I am trying to make a firm connection to Eli. 1870 Census data for Eli shows son John was nine so that fits the age for my John Calvin. I would like to know more about Eli. A relative says that when Milly Ann died, John Calvin received a postcard from NC saying her body was to be shipped to Smith County, TN for burial and to meet the train to receive the body.

Justice x Norwood

I have been trying to some time now to figure out where in North Carolina my Justice and Norwood families originated. I may have found a clue and would like to throw this out to see if anyone nibbles.

I am researching William Justice (1791 - 1848) and his wife Delitha P. Norwood (1801 - aft 1880). I know that they were both born in North Carolina. Their eldest son, David Washington Justice, was born in Alabama sometime around 1820. I found birth dates and a marriage date for William and Delitha that someone posted, but I have not yet received a reply about where the information comes from and they did not state WHERE these events happened. According to this researcher, they were married in 1819.

I decided to start in NC with the 1790 census through to the 1820 census and see if could find any commonality between Norwoods listed in the census and Justices in the census. So far the counties have not really matched up very much, just a couple of instances, but there is one I find very interesting.

In 1820 there is a William Justice and a William Norwood, both living "East of The South Fork of The Catawba River,Lincoln,NC" William Justice is on page 18 of 33 and William Norwood is on page 13. This seemed an interesting coincidence and I had to post it.

Some other comparisons:

In that same census (1820)in Orange county there are:
Stephen Justice
Elija Norwood
Nathaniel Norwood

And in 1790 in Craven Co we have:
Fanny Norwood
Rebecca Justice
Sylvanus Justice

Justice family Cherokee heritage NC 1800s

I know from family records that ancestors Elijah, Thomas Newton and William Harvey  JUSTICE  were Cherokees, but have not yet been able to find them on any rolls.They were born in NC between 1806 and 1869.  It appears likely that they escaped persecution and relocation by moving their families deep into the forests and mountains of western NC.  Elijah's father , William  Justice or an earlier forebear must have married a Cherokee woman, as the earliest forebears came to Va. from England. Please, if you can help me estab-lish the Cherokee connection, send a message.  Thank you.;
'

I am researching the coal miner and musician Dick Justice, born about 1905. Dick was a nickname and the name under which he recorded. I have reason to believe that his real name may have been Henry Justice and he may have been the son of Frank and Minnie Justice, who lived in Henlawson (Logan County, West Virginia) in 1930. At that time Frank was a laborer in the mines and Henry was a coal loader. If anyone has information about this family, I'd be very grateful if you'd let me know, via this thread or via my email address, raheja[at]umn.edu.

According to my information, Bertha Watkins Justice (b 1908) was a daughter of Tobe and Mary Jane Reed Watkins of Whitley Co., KY. Bertha is buried at the Reed Family Cemetery there. She died in 1966. Her husband, Ambrose/Ambers, seemingly has a marker there as well (1910 - 1999) although a notation says he is buried at Highland Park. Looks like he may have married a second time. Also buried at Reed Cemetery is George Bill Justice (1933 - 1949). I am descended from the Reed line of Bertha's mother, Mary Jane. I still have a few questions so if anyone is at all familiar with this family I'd love tocompare notes with you.

I have posted these records online, but for those who have not seen them, it is the family of Moses N. Justice and wife Nancy Kirkpatrick and it list their birth dates, as well as their children.
Justice line of Jefferson County, AL

I am looking for additional information about Justices found in 1840 – 1930 Census records of Jefferson County, Alabama.
Specifically, Earl Edward Justice, Sr., born in Jefferson County, AL in 1908. He is the son of Sidney Justice and Sarah Davis, grandson of William Justice and Rachel Tabitha Parsons, and the great grandson of Charles Justice and Martha Green. Charles and Martha were from North Carolina but moved to Alabama in the 1800s.
Earl Justice married Dorothy (Dolly) May Hinde of Key West, FL in 1937 in Monroe County, FL. Earl & Dolly divorced in 1947 after having 3 children (2 daughters and 1 son - Earl Edward Justice, Jr. aka “Buddy”). Buddy is my father and he died in 1984 in Missouri and was buried in the Florida Keys.
After the divorce, I find no record of Earl Justice, Sr. in Florida or in Alabama. I’d be most grateful to get ANY information on any of the people mentioned or anyone else in that family line. Please email me at: cotedm@cox.net. Thank you for your time.
Looking for Justice Ancestors Information

I am the granddaughter of James Richard Justice, son of James Decauter (son of Charles and Marth Peck Green) and Sarah Margaret Joyce (md 20 May 1858). Charles left Haywood Co, NC and moved to Jefferson Co., AL in the mid 1800's where he lived with a son, Charles M and wife Martha Carrington. James Richard Justice, my grandfather, was married to ? and had a daughter named Phigenia in Haywood Co, NC. Around 1899 he left NC with Bessie Mae Israel (daughter of Jesse and Mary ?) and went to Chenoa, Bell Co., KY where my uncle, James Reagan was born in 1900. My father, Glenn Floyd was also born there on 14 Apr 1902. I am looking for any information on this Justice line that someone could provide. I'm especially interested in discovering who James Richard married the first time and what happened to the daughter. I'd also like to discover any information on Bessie Mae Israel's (b: 9 Apr 1879 in Avery Creek, NC d: 2 Aug 1960 in Middlesboro, Bell, KY) family in NC. Thank you very much in advance.

James Justice of Buncombe, NC - the Butler did it??

I am in possession of the death certificate of James A. Justice, b 31 Jan 1866 in Buncombe County, NC and d 21 Jan 1918, same place. His wife was Martha Seretha Ingle. This James is often confused with another James A. from Haywood County. The death certificate indicates James' father as "Butler Justice" and mother as "Mary Wilson". I've had no luck finding his parents. The death certificate info was provided by James' son JC (James Clyde), and he indicated both parents were born in Buncombe County. Any insight would be appreciated.

Justice family of Clark County, Arkansas

I'm researching the Justice (or Justus) family that moved to Clark County, Arkansas from McNairy County, Tennessee.

The head of the household, Alexander Justice, was married to Caroline B. Case. Both were born, I believe, in Buncombe County, North Carolilna.

Alexander is my gggreat grandfather. Here is the descendency down to me:

Alexander Justice (1814 - 1893)
William C Justice (1850 - 1897)
Lee Marks Justice (1896 - 1973)
Mary Mag Justice (1928 - 1985)
Lynn Selvidge (living)
Jason Flanagan (me)

I would be very grateful to anyone that could help me extend my knowledge further back than Alexander Justice and Caroline Case.

Kind regards,
Jason

I am looking for info on Robert Sherman Justice born in Illinois around 1877. He is the father of Matthias Lincoln Justice born 1900. Matthias later changed his name to Matthew Lincoln Justice. Matthew's mother was Julia Welch. The 1900 census shows her married and living with Matthias and her mother Elizabeth Welch but not showing Robert. In the 1910 census she is still living with her mother but is now a widow.

Julia Welch later married ? Craig and lived in Juniata PA in the 1930's.

The family lore says that Robert was on a train sometime in the early 1900's with some race horses and the train wrecked and Robert nor the horses were ever found. Supposedly this happened in Virginia or West Virgina.

Justice - Lunsford puzzle, 1850s Indiana

James H. Lunsford appears on the 1850 census in Fall Creek, Hamilton, IN at 1 month old in the household of Elijah and Sarah Lunsford. Thereafter in 1860 and 1870 James H. Lunsford (at 9 and 19) appears in the household of William and Nancy JUSTICE in Taylor, Harrison county, IN. Elijah Lunsford reappears with different wife Julia in Hamilton county. Was there a connection between the JUSTICE families in Hamilton county and William Justice in Harrison county? Was there a connection between the Justice and Lunsford families?
I'd like to prove my gggrandfather James H. Lunsford born 1850 in Indiana, who named his firstborn son "Fred JUSTICE Lunsford", was one and the same with both of the above.

This is NOT my Justice line, and I will be happy to share these records with anyone searching this particular Justice family. Justice men whose names are mentioned include: John, Jesse, Griffith, Aquilla, Nicholas, William, Thomas, Moses, Mounce, Jacob, Ezekiel, and David. It states that this small history covers the years from 1685 - 1947. You may post a reply here, or e-mail me directly at: anitawages@direcway.com
Thanks, Anita

The Elusive John R. Justus (b. 1787 PA - d. 1863 OH)

It has been over thirty years since I located my 3rd great-grandfather working as a tanner in Chardon, Geauga County, Ohio. This is my direct male line and also my most difficult line. Any ideas on how to pursue John's ancestry would be greatly appreciated.

John R. Justus was born March 19, 1787 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and died September 10, 1863 in Geauga County, Ohio. He married Abigail Townsley April 05, 1818 in Geauga County, Ohio, daughter of Moses Townsley and Abigail Polly. She was born October 30, 1791 in Westhampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts1, and died October 03, 1859 in Munson Township, Geauga County, Ohio.

From the Pioneer and General History of Geauga County (1853)
John R. Justus, another 1812 veteran, settled in Chardon in 1817, and in Munson in 1829, setting up a tannery south of the old stone bridge.

From the Portrait and Biographical Album of Jo Daviess County, Illinois (1889)
John R. Justice, the father of our subject, was born in Westmoreland County, Pa., the son of a Revolutionary patriot, while he himself, in later years, was a gallant soldier in the War of 1812. He was a pioneer of Ohio, to which State he went from his native State in 1814, and there he engaged in his trade of tanner and currier for several years. He married Abigail Townsley, a native of Westhampton, Mass., and her father likewise was a brave soldier in the revolution. Of that marriage seven children were born, four of whom are now living: Polly (Mrs. Brainard), George, Lucinda (Mrs. Wright), and Sidney.

More About John R.
Pike, Cty KY George Sr, Abner, and Simeon Justice

Hello all:

I have been looking over the numerous posts for the last couple of days, and I am amazed at how well our family tree has been documented over the years.

I am currently putting together a sentimental piece for my grandmother, who is about to turn 80, which will include all eleven of her brothers and sisters, all born and raised in Pike County, KY. Most still reside in the region.

My family line includes the following:

My grandmother - Lassie Justice, was born 3-11-1927 to Flem and Sarah Florence "Fonnie" (Justice) Justice

Flem was born 3-24-1905 to Green Justice, Sr. and Lile Adkins (second marraige). Green Justice, Sr. was the son of William and Mary Ann (Thacker) Justice, and William was the son of George, Sr. and Polly (?).

Fonnie was born on 6-14-1909, and was the daughter of Jerry and Sarah (Justice) Justice.

Sarah Justice, was born 3-16-1866 to James Madison "Matt" Justice, who was born 1-3-1845 to Abner Justice, born on 4-15-1823, the youngest son of Gearge Justice, Sr.

Jerry Justice was born 4-1-1860 to William Allen and Darcus (Brown) Justice. William, born 11-2-1826, was the son of Simeon and Polly (Abshire) Justice.

I have some extra information, and a world of knowledge in my older relatives that are still alive, and those still in the Pike area.

I would love some definitive answers on reletives preceeding George Sr., and would be happy to help others on anything I might have that they don't.

Thank you in Advance -
Your Cousin
Debbie

Searching for William JUSTICE ancestors

Does anyone reconize this family? Any help will be appreciated.

Generation # 1

William JESTICE was probably born in North Carolina between 1800 and 1825. He married MILLIE (?). William and Millie were living in Blount Co., Tennessee in 1843. This is where their son, John Franklin JESTES (note spelling) was born on 14 September 1843. By 1850 they are shown on the census as living in Overton Co., Tennessee.

Between 1850 and 1857 the family moved from Overton Co., Tennessee to Illinois. The 1860 census shows William, Millie, John Franklin and John’s sister Louisa living in Livingston (near today’s Darwin) Clark Co., Ill. William is a farmer and John is a farm laborer.

Generation # 2

John Franklin JESTES (William JESTICE) was born on 14 September 1843 in Blount Co., Tennessee. It appears that he lived in the home of his father, William, until his marriage to Malinda Ellen KEPLINGER on 5 September 1866.

John and Malinda were married in Clark Co., Illinois After their marriage John Franklin and Malinda JESTES moved to Macoupin Co., IL.where they lived until about 1872. Malinda's uncle, Peter KEPLINGER, lived in Macoupin Co., IL and they lived just a farm or two from him.

About 1872 they moved to Southwest City, McDonald Co., MO. They traveled about 700 miles. In that day and time they could make about 15 miles a day, with a horse and wagon, on a good day. Southwest City is in the extreme southwest corner of Missouri on the Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma border. We don't why they went to Southwest City. Some say it was to visit relatives. That is a long way to go just to visit relatives.

Others say that the Federal Government was giving away land near Pineville Arkansas and that is the reason they went. However, a search of the land records and other records give no indication that John even applied for free land let alone ever obtained any. There were Jestes families of acceptable variant spelling in Stone and Barry counties of Missouri in 1880 and in Eureka Springs, Arkansas in 1900. We will never know why they traveled so far for so little.

After James Franklin was born in January 1873 in Southwest City, Missouri, John and Malinda and family turned north along the state line and spent a couple of years in Lamar, Barton Co., MO. where the twins girls were born in 1875. From there they travel northeast to Morgan Co., IL., arriving there about 1877. It may be that they got word that Malinda's mother was ill because she died on 12 July 1880 in Chapin, Morgan Co., IL. at the age of 62; she died of old age and debility, a widow, buried in Jordan Cemetery, Chapin, Morgan County, IL.

The 1880 census shows John and Malinda living in Chapin, Morgan Co., IL. It states that John is the head-of-household, occupation, laborer. Malinda was keeping house. Mary M.C., Joanna, Edward, Frank, Cora and Nora were also in residence. Also listed in the household was Malinda's mother, Catherine Roach (she married John Roach in 1858 after returning to Morgan Co., IL from Westport, Missouri with her four girls). Also present was Malinda's oldest sister's husband, Stephen MCWITHER and son Martin. Apparently she (Mary Keplinger) had died prior to 1880.

John, Malinda and family left Morgan County soon after Catherine's death. They went west and arrived in Fremont County, Iowa in about April 1881. There are a couple of possibilities for the reason for their move. One is that Iowa offered much better and more productive land than did Illinois.

Also, John's sister, Susan and her husband, James A. Hurst and children were farming in Harrison County MO. only a few miles from Riverton, Fremont Co., IA. John's brother, Joseph, who was married to Malinda's sister, Nancy, were farming in the same area as Susan and James. A nephew of John Franklin, a William Isaac Jestes was, along with his family, in Hamburg, Fremont Co., IA for a short while in 1885. All of these factors probably were the reason for their move from Illinois to Iowa.

After ten years in Fremont Co., IA., John and Malinda moved their family to Winfield, Cowley Co., KS., arriving between 1891 and 1893. The Cherokee Strip of Indian land in northern Oklahoma Territory was to be opened for settlement in September of 1893; however, none of our close relatives took advantage of it.

The Federal Government had bought the Indian Lands in Kansas and moved the Indians south into the Oklahoma Territory. But by the time John and Malinda arrived in the Winfield area most of the land had been taken by earlier settlers. The railroads were fairly well established west of the Mississippi by 1880 and it is a good bet that John and family came to Kansas from Iowa, by rail. The Union Pacific was offering travel from Omaha to points west for as little as $9.00 a family.

The 1900 census shows John and Malinda, their daughters Lena and Lillie, living at 620 N. 6th., Arkansas City, Ks. The girls are in school. John may have been ill at this time because he died on 7 July 1901 in Newkirk, Oklahoma Territory..."in the home of his daughter, Mary M.C. Woods"... as reported in the Republican News Journal, Kay County, Oklahoma Territory.

We cannot find Mary M.C. and James B Woods in Newkirk in the 1900 census; however, James parents, David and Minerva Woods, his brothers and sisters, are living in Newkirk in 1900. It is possible Mary M.C. was living with them in 1900 but was not recorded. This is a little mystery that may never be solved.

After John died, Malinda married M.T. Mahin. In the 1898 Arkansas City Register, M. T. is a broom maker, living at 910 N. 7th St. He must have died in just a few years after marrying Malinda because in the 1908 she is living at 722 N. Summit and is widowed. In 1917, Malinda is living at 208 N. 8th St. In 1920 she is living with Lillie, her daughter and Arthur Ray at 508 N. "D" St. In 1922 she is still living at 508 N. "D" St.

Malinda died on 30 March 1926 in the home of her son, Charles Edward at 625 N. 7th St., Arkansas City, Kansas. She is buried in the Newkirk, Kay County, Oklahoma Cemetery as is John Franklin, Mary M.C. (Woods), James Franklin and family, and many others of the Jestes family.

The children of John Franklin JESTES and Malinda Ellen KEPLINGER were:

i. Mary M.C. JESTES, . 23 August 1867 in Macopin Co., IL. m. UNKNOWN

NOTE: It is not known where or when Cora JESTES died. A family story states that she died while making bread in her mother's kitchen. If this were true it would make one believe that she died of a heart attack or stroke. Her grave has not been found nor any record of her death.

NOTE: Nora and Cora were twins.

vii. Ruth V. She was a twin of Cora JESTES. Nora Adelia JUSTUS married James Alexander PROCTOR on 16 October 1894 in Oswego, Labette Co., KS. Their marriage license states that they both lived in Blue Jacket, Indian Territory. This was not true, they had eloped from Nora's home in Newkirk, Kay Co., OK and simply made up and address. Nora died on 21 October 1946 in Fort Scott, Bourbon Co., KS.

William & Delitha Justice of NC

I am researching William Justice of NC and his wife Delitha. At this time I do not know what Delitha's maiden name was. I know that both were born in NC between 1790 and 1805. I do not know if they were married in NC or not, but I do know that their eldest child, David Washington Justice, was born in Alabama in 1820.

They lived in the northern part of Alabama between 1820 and 1840-ish and most of their children were born there. During this time period the northern part of Alabama was Indian Territory so there are not that many records for me to research.

I'm trying to trace both William and Delitha in North Caroolina as this is where I have to go if I'm going to find the next step back in the family tree. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Tammy Blandino

Sarah Justice/Aaron May/Olive Duke

In the 1880 Alabama census in the home of Aaron May and Olive Duke, Sarah Justice was listed as a niece. She is listed as age 6, born in Alabama, both parents born in Alabama. The census location is Beat 6, Lamar, Alabama.

Both Aaron May and Olive Duke were married several other times also - Aaron to Martha Hamilton and Anny Gilmore - Olive to William Berry Norton and Washington Barton.

I haven't yet found a sibling or relative of any of these people who would qualify as the parent of Sarah. I am hoping that finding out more about Sarah might lead me to find out more about the parents of Aaron May.

Does anyone know who Sarah Justice was?

Martha
