Ka 'ohana Ka'aihue o Kaupo ma Maui

Aloha e ka po'e 'ohana Ka'aihue! I'm Joe's (Iokepa's) nephew, grandson of Irene Ka'aihue Pedro, the only sibling left. Through talking story, I was told that her father's real name was Lua, but because of the multiple hawaiian meanings of that name, one of them being pit, referring to Pele, that name was viewed bad. And so he took on either his Aunt's name or his Grandmother's, I'm not too sure, whose name was Ka'aihue. She also says, her father told her that all of Kaupo is related, the reason being that it was said they had intermarriages in Kaupo. Other relatives I have from Kaupo are the Kahunanui's and the Kanuha's, and a few others but I forgot. Anyways, Aloha nui and Mahalo for taking the time to read this :). Na ke akua 'oukou e malama mau ai.

Victoria Kaaihue

Aloha Mai Kakou! i am the great-great granddaughter of Victoria Kaaihue, who was born in kaupo around 1853 and died in january 1928. on her death certificate it states her mother as Kaaihue and father as Kuhi Wailani. i have the delayed birth certificate of her son, William Park Chong Ah Sam. according to my grandmother, Elizabeth Ross, Victoria had five different husbands and like 16 children. the ones we know of are Wong Seong, Aiu (daughter: Helen), Akano, Ah Sam (sons: William Park Chong, Edward, daughters: Rebecca Ah Moi, Elizabeth Ah Ho, and Lilia Ah Lan) and Yon Pak (sometimes spelled Young Pack). She also had a sister named Mele, and a brother, Kauka (?not sure of the name). Mele married a man named Mahana and her son was Sam Mahana of La'ie, O'ahu. if anyone has information they would like to share, please contact me at meleanae@yahoo.com. i am willing to share the information i have gathered as well. me ka mana o ke 'aumakua, imua ka 'ohana ka'aihue!

kaaihue, kaupo

oh one more thing. some years ago i went to maui (i'm from o'ahu) to visit my grandmother's grave and to go to kaupo to see our ancestors one hanau. i ran into this man named Albert 'Ai who told me that the reason Kaupo is called Kaupo is because chiefs from Hawaii would land there at night: night landing. All of the Kaupo families, he told me, are from chiefs escaping Kohala. He said that everyone from there is indeed related. He also told me that some of his uncles had had different surnames: one was Kamahalo, one was Kanuha, although they were full siblings of the same generation. he told me to speak with his mother who lives on the west side of o'ahu but i left hawaii before i got in touch with her. but our kupuna who remember our connections to each other are out there, and we are all much more connected as 'ohana than we might think. malama pono.

My name is Ann I live in Wasilla Alaska but for Oahu. I was looking thru some of my dads papers and came across the name John Kaaihue, whose daughter is Mary Ann P. Kanui , she is my dads aunt. My dad was born in Kokea Kula Maui and raised in Kaupo by his maternal grandparents. His mother Lucy Ho was adopted by the Kailieha family. My dad often talked about the Paniolas. I think he was raised on the ranch in Kaupo. I need to find all I can on old Paniolas, as I was raised on the Allen Davis Ranch on Oahu in Makapuu. Please e-mail me, maybe I can find some of his family history
