Re: Victoria Kaaihue

Aloha, My name is Joslyne Theresa Ball. I too am a descendant from the Kaaihue line, but not sure of exactly where. All I know is my Mother's name is Vicki Lee Pe'ahi (maiden name Ball). My grandmother's name is Josephine Theresa De Mello (birth name is Long). She has four children: Vicki Lee, Donna Kay, Saundra Dee, and Richard. My Grand-Unko's name is Herbert Anthony Kaiihue. He has three children: Alison, Rochelle and Herbert Jr. My Grandmother and Grand-Unko has already passed and I'm curious to know my family genealogy because its known to me. My Grandmother told me that when she went to school as Josephine Long and had to change her name because that was a well-to-do family in Maui. And for what ever reason My Grandmother carried the last name Kaaihue which I believe was my Great-Grandmother's last name Victoria Kaaihue, also from Maui. So because there wasn't much family that we know of, I searching for who ever is related and how. If you know any of my family i would really appreciate if you share what you know.
Mahalo.......Joslyne

KaaihueSurname (Honolulu)

Hi there,

I am absolutely stuck with my Kaaihue research and am looking for anyone that may have info or that we may be related to. I saw a couple posts from YEARS ago and know that I am related to at least two people who have posted here regarding the Kaaihue surname.

My grandfather was David (aka Kawika) K. Kaaihue, b. 9/21/1921, married to Helen Leilani Wills. He had four siblings and two half siblings as far as I can tell from census records. His father's name was Kala Kaaihue (b. 1887) and his mother's name was Daisy Keau (b. 1900).

I know of some of David Kaaihue's brothers and sisters children (my mothers cousins): Ike, Garry, Kala, Stevie, U'i, and Henry Kapono (The Wild Hawaiian).

David's Kaaihue's children include: David Jr, Thomas Wayne, Diana Mapuana, Patricia Leinaala, Daisy Leilehua, Georgiana Leimaile, Johnette Leinani, Helen Leiilima, Antoinette Keau, Henry Keau, Robert Kala, and Kirk Kahale. These are my aunties and uncles.

If anyone has information to share, or thinks we may be related please email me at kaaihueproject@gmail.com. I would also be happy to share my findings as well.

Thanks!

Leilani (Kaaihue)
oh one more thing. some years ago i went to maui (i'm from o'ahu) to visit my grandmother's grave and to go to kaupo to see our ancestors one hanau. i ran into this man named Albert 'Ai who told me that the reason Kaupo is called Kaupo is because chiefs from Hawaii would land there at night: night landing. All of the Kaupo families, he told me, are from chiefs escaping Kohala. He said that everyone from there is indeed related. He also told me that some of his uncles had had different surnames: one was Kamahalo, one was Kanuha, although they were full siblings of the same generation. he told me to speak with his mother who lives on the west side of o'ahu but i left hawaii before i got in touch with her. but our kupuna who remember our connections to each other are out there, and we are all much more connected as 'ohana than we might think. malama pono.

Aloha Mai Kakou! i am the great-great granddaughter of Victoria Kaaihue, who was born in kaupo around 1853 and died in january 1928. on her death certificate it states her mother as Kaaihue and father as Kuhi Wailani. i have the delayed birth certificate of her son, William Park Chong Ah Sam. according to my grandmother, Elizabeth Ross, Victoria had five different husbands and like 16 children. the ones we know of are Wong Seong, Aiu (daughter: Helen), Akano, Ah Sam (sons: William Park Chong, Edward, daughters: Rebecca Ah Moi, Elizabeth Ah Ho, and Lilia Ah Lan) and Yon Pak (sometimes spelled Young Pack). She also had a sister named Mele, and a brother, Kauka (?not sure of the name). Mele married a man named Mahana and her son was Sam Mahana of La'ie, O'ahu. if anyone has information they would like to share, please contact me at meleanae@yahoo.com. i am willing to share the information i have gathered as well. me ka mana o ke 'aumakua, imua ka 'ohana ka'aihue!

Chanda,
No, this is not Lisia. I am her cousin, by both our mother's and father's side. I am Faith's daughter. I left the big island when I was 7 to live with my Tongan grandparents. Lisia is still on the big island and her brother Saia is living with my mom. You were close though.

Ohana from Kaupo

Aloha.

My great great grandfather was a Ka`aihue born in Kaupo in 1857. My great great grandmother, who was also born in Kaupo, in 1859, is listed under variations of her name, Nohua, Kanohua, and I have also seen Kanuha. My great grandmother, known under variations of Victoria Helen Kaliko (Ka`aihue), was born in Kaupo in 1879 and presumably first married a Kaliko and later married Wai Chock when she was 29. One of the witnesses at their wedding in 1906 was a Rebecca Keanu.

My great grandmother had at least three sisters, Lucy, Mary Katherine and Mary Ann, and at least one brother, George.

If anyone would like to exchange information or if there is a group that I may join, please e-mail me at loshiro@hotmail.com.

Mahalo.

I was reading your post and noticed two familiar names. My Great Grandmother was Elizabeth Hailani Haupu, she was the daughter of Haupu Kahele & Kaaiakala Makaole of Kaupo, Maui. Elizabeth had 1 sister, & 3 brothers. Her only sister was Josephine Kalanialii Kaniho Haupu, married Andrew Kaawa, their ohana still resides in Nanakuli to this day. Elizabeths 3 brothers were Haupu Pio, Kanuha & Peter Haupu. They also had a half brother named Jack, same mother different father.

I was reading your post on Ohana from Kaupo. My 2nd Great Grandfather went by the names David Nohua & Konohua. Sometimes he used the name "Nakaikuaana", which translates to "older sibling or cousin". He was also born in Kaupo in the year 1845. I was wondering if there might be a connection. Also the "Kanuha" name was used by one of my Great Grandmothers' brothers her name was Elizabeth Hailani Haupu before she married my Great Grandfather, Bernard Palenapa Hoopii.

I am trying to find out information about my great-great grandfather, who was born sometime around 1880 or so in Honolulu. His name is Sam Kaaihue who married Kawahine and had four children, who do not carry the Kaaihue name anymore. So the name Ka'aihue did not pass onto anyone in our family from there on.
We are trying to find his parents or any further information on where Sam Kaaihue came from. According to the family, we come from Maui somewhere. I am not sure about anything any further, but i know that someone said we were related to the families Waiwaiole, Makalena, and one more last name that I cannot recall off the top of my head. The Ka'aihue family that I am from all lived in Nu'uanu area.
If anyone has any information, please email me at tuff_mook@hotmail.com.

My name is Ann I live in Wasilla Alaska but for Oahu. I was looking thru some of my dads papers and came across the name John Kaaihue, whose daughter is Mary Ann P. Kanui , she is my dads aunt. My dad was born in Kokea Kula Maui and raised in Kaupo by his maternal grandparents. His mother Lucy Ho was adopted by the Kailieha family. My dad often talked about the Paniolas. I think he was raised on the ranch in Kaupo. I need to find all I can on old Paniolas, as I was raised on the Allen Davis Ranch on Oahu in Makapuu. Please e-mail me, maybe I can find some of his family history
