Susanna Kolli, 1865-1913

Hi, I think Susanna Kolli might be my great-great grandmother? I believe she was also known by the name Saana fiina. She was born in Ylistaro Finland (1865) and married Nikolai Huhtala (1866-1947), also from Ylistaro, Finland. Susanna had four children - Jussi, Saana, Matti and Jacob Huhtala. Jacob Huhtala is my great-grandfather, he came to the US and then moved to Canada when my grandfather, Arvid Huhtala (1919-2001) was born.

After Susanna Kolli died, Nikolai changed his last name to Ladvelin, though I am not sure why. He married a woman named Maria Haavisto and had 2 daughters, Maija and Selma.

Does anybody know any more information about NIkolai Huhtala/Ladvelin or Susanna Kolli?

Hi Mary, ... My g-grandfather, Johan Israelimp HEISKA (b.1821-Isokyro, d.1891-Ylistaro) married twice. His 1st wife, Helena Matintr, (b.1824-Isokyro, d.1860) bore him 5 children; Maria, Daniel, Hedvig, Lisa, and Johan Gustav before her death. On 1 Apr 1861 he married my g-grandmother, Lisa ,Johanintr e Kolli, (b.1837 Ylistaro d.1908) and they had 9 children; Susanna-1862, Jacob-1864, Isak-1866, Justina (my g-mother)-1867, Matts-1870, Jakob-1872, Suanna-1876, Essias-1879, and Saloman-1882.

Justina went to America 1892 and, on 28 Apr 1894, married Anders Kuusta (August) Kaanta (b.30 Jan 1879 Toholampi, Vaasa, FIN) in Hanna WY USA. They had 5 children; Maria Eliina-1894, Alma Elisabet (my mother)-1897, Otto Ewald-1899, Eino August-1903, and Vilho Leonard-1903. My father, Anders August, died 30 Jun 1903 in a mining accident. Soon after. Justina took the kids back to Ylistaro. Both Eliina and Vilho, eventually returned to America, as did my mother who, in 1923 married Onni Matias Peltola in Ylistaro, and immigrated to Canada in 1923 and then to Grand Rapids, MI, USA in 1926. Otto Ewald,1899-1946, chose HEISKA instead of KAANTA for his surname and remained in Ylistaro .

My great grandfather Jaako Heiska can to Minnesota in 1907, born 1889 from Ylistaro Finland. His father was Matti Heiska. He was the baby of the family.

Greg, all your information matches mine. Your father was my cousin. My mother , Alma Peltoa (Kaanta) was Elina's sister.
Where are you , Mike and Lee living now? I saw Lee last when she lived in Kalamazoo, MI. Would like to e-mail direct,

I believe that Elina is my Grandmother. She
married Charle Pera and lived in Grand Rapids
Michigan. They had a son, Leonard, who married JoAnn McCall just after WWII. They had 3 children, Michael, Lee, and Gregory (Me).Leonard Pera passed away in San Francisco in October 1979. As he was a Marine
he was buried with full military honors. I hope I haven't made an error with this but it
sounds correct. Please email me.

My great grand father was Leonard Kaanta of Teluride, CO. He had imigrated from Finland and first lived in Rock Springs, WY. Were he (27) married Sanna Liisa Walquest (19) in ~1883.
