I am searching for information on Johann and Sophie (Schmidt) Kabat who came to Detroit, MI, from Kolmar, Pozen, Prussia in the nineteen teens. Sophie Schmidt( aka Schmitt) came to the US with her parents Julius Schmitt and Anna Schmitt (Sell) and her three brothers...Phillip, Paul and Leo.

Miss Irene Cecelia Kabat, 55, of Hiroshima, Japan, formerly of Houston, died Wednesday at M.D. Anderson Hospital. Born in Oklahoma, served in the capacity of executive assistant to business administrator of the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission in Hiroshima. Survivors, brother George Kabat, North Manchester, Ind. Remains to be sent to Bender Funeral Home, Indiana for burial. Memorials in remembrances of Miss Kabat may be sent to the Department of Pediatrics at M.D. Anderson Hospital. Local arrangements by Pat H. Foley & Co. Chapel of the Garden, 1200 West 34th Northwest.

Published in the Houston Chronicle on Thursday, February 10, 1966.

My Name is Jerry Kabat. I was wondering if you have any info on the Kabat's in Chicago from 1900's on and also around the Madison area a Frank Kabat who also had family that had a dairy farm just outside of Madison.

my fhader was a kabat. my grend fhader was anton kabat . thei lived in romania, that was austrohungaria.

Hi Anne,

Do you know if there is any relationship to Anna Bees who is listed as a domestic servant in the home of Joseph Kabat on the 1870 census? I believe she is the daughter of Frantisek Bees/Bis and Anna Brychta who came to America in August of 1862.

My only interest in the Gorzynski/Kabat name is that I am assisting a person living in Michigan to learn where her grandmother Veronica Gorzynski was born (1880). Unfortunately, the only information I have on Veronica is that she came to the U.S. with her brothers, sisters and mother, Eva (?).

You mention in an earlier posting that Anton's mother was Eva, therefore he may have been Veronica's brother. I don't know that yet. I will forward this information onto the person in Michigan.

Now to get back to your present posting....you mention you don't know the name of Mary Kabat's parents....this information should be on the marriage records at St. Adalbert. If you live in the Chicgo area, you can view the marriage records of St. Adalbert's at several of the LDS FHL. I know for a fact the FHL in Naperville has them....no need to order them. You can then view the records of other Gorzynski and Kabat's to determine which of them were related and one or a few of the records may have the name of the village where they were born. St. Adalbert's records are on FHL #1704766.

They are living right next to my great great grandparents Jacob and Mary Macal.
