Hi Lisa,
Thank you for yr msg. I have now discovered that William kakel was indeeed 'married' 3 times. Understand that Emily Boulter died in a house fire. No death cert for Elizabeth Presser, but William describes himself as a Widower on the 1991 census. Think we all just assumed Sarah Hawkes and he were married. In 1901 Sarah is listed on the census with William as a servant. It seems like the Hawkes and Kakels lived next to each other at 15 and 19 Woodlands Grove. Sarah died in 1956.

Info on where William came from came from an aunt who has sadly since died. I think she assumed because he went back to Cassel and lived with his sister during/after ww1

Do you know if William came to england with his parents?
I understand from other relatives that he came with his cousin Sebastian Troster.

William Kakel was my Gt, GT Grandfather, I am linked to him on my maternal side through his 1st marriage with Emily Boulter, their son Charles Kakel was my Grandmother's Father.

Sarah Hawkes was not William's 2nd wife but indeed his 3rd.

His 2nd wife was Elizabeth Presser, I have no record of her death and can trace no record of a marriage certificate for William and Sarah Hawkes, do you know if they were actually married or not?

Could you please let me know where you got the info as William coming from Cassel. My family were always told that he came from near Berlin.

Hello Phil,

As I think you have already discovered Henry William Kakel is a different person to William Kakel, the only similarity is that they are both German and both bakers.

William Kakel was my Gt, Gt Grandfather on my maternal side.
My link to him is through his 1st wife Emily Boulter, one of their children Charles Kakel was the Father of my Grandmother.

I am interested to see that you say that your Grandfather was Williams youngest son as I wasn't aware that he had any children after Wilhamina so I must do some more research on that side.

William's married his 2nd wife Elizabeth Presser after Emily died.

Maybe you can draw some light on whether or not William and Sarah Hawkes ever married as I have been unable to find a marriage certificate for them.

I also have details of the Hawkes family back to the 1750's.

William Kakel was my gt grandfather, he married Sarah Hawkes in 1899 (2nd wife. My grandmother was Ellen Kakel (Nellie)born in 1901 the eldest of the 2nd family. Please contact if you have any info on the Kakels. William was a Baker who came from Cassell, Germany and seems to have been interned during ww1. He never returned to England.

I asked the Reading Public Library for a copy of Henry Kachel's obituary and the reference person there sent me 3, dated Aug 22, 24 & 26. The first one contains the names of Elizabeth and their four sons and identifies his brother, Augustus and sister, Amanda. The second one is a notice inviting people to his service- including the lodge he belonged to. The third one was published on Saturday and describes his cortege. Do you already have this or could I email them to you?

My husband's great great grandfather was Henry K.
married to Elizabeth Zeller from Marion Twp. Berks
County. I have info on each of their children but
nothing on Henry's parents. I am presently in contact
with a local woman who also has researched Kachel

Maria was born in 1780 and died 1850 and was buried in St. John's Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery, Sacremento, Schuylkill County. Her first husband may have been named John Straub. Her son was named John Straub (born January 1806) and John was listed in the will of her second husband John Stong, buried Klinger's Lutheran and Reformed Church, Erdman, Lykens Twp., Dauphin Co., Pa.
I m trying to confirm her first husband's name - can anyone assist ? Who were her parents ?

Is the Andreus Kachel the same as: Johan Andreus Kachel born 01 August 1778, died 1777. Was his wife Ursala Ann Marie Vers???? Was one of their sons Simon Samuel (1) Kachel? I forgot to write down Leonard b. 1778 before going to the library so I didn't look for his birth. However I did notice several Leaonards in the birth records in the Trinity Luth. Ch racords in Reading Pa. Your Leonard might be one of them. The nxt time I go I will try to write down all the births listed there.

Samuel Straub and his two wives are buried at Klinger's and someof his descendants - Maria and her son John are at Sacremento (St. John's or Artz's Lutheran and Reformed Church) - dates are from a micorfilm data of the cemetery records on file at the Family Research Library at Salt Lake City (and what I could make out from her marker about 30 years ago

I am looking for Henry William or William Henry's relatives. His name was spelt Kackel,Kakel Kachel. He originally came from Cassel in Germany being born there in 1833. But by 1857 he had married Albania Muench and they lived in Stepney and he was a master baker.

I believe the William Kakel living in Greenwich on the 1901census is my g/grandfather. My grandfather, also called William was his youngest son, born in 1915. His mothers maiden name was Hawkes.

I'm not sure how Henry William Kakel fits into the picture, as he had 3 daughters, around the 1860's. I think? He is also the only Kakel in the 19th century to recieve a certificate of naturalization, #2789 dated 17 November 1858, originating from Hesse??

I would dearly love to hear from anyone who has been researching the name, some of whom I must be related to.

I found a Philipp Heinrich Kachel, a cartwright, as witness or sponsor on a birth certificate of Eva Dorothea Dauler, daughter of Bernard Dauler and Eva Dorothea Haushalter born in Oberbetschdorf so was France in 1799. I felt that he must have been relative so was checking to see if anyone has him in their family tree. I wanted to know who he married. Any information would be appreciated

I guess I'm looking for Simon Jr, (born 1772)... According to LDS, Sarah Ann Kachel's father, my GGGGrandfather, was Samuel, (born 1804); his father was Leonard, born @ 1778. I may be barking up the "wrong tree", but I'm trying to determine if my Kachels are from this family. Thanks Don.

Martin Kachel was married to my great aunt, Jessie (Dorothy) Howe, and they reoportedly had 7 children. Martin had an avid interest in music, and may have been a music teacher. He died in the late 1950's, and my aunt later remarried, to someone with the last name of Kelly. Any information on birth or death dates, and the names and birth dates of the children would be greatly appreciated.

Were any of your Kachel's bakers by occupation..by any chance? My male Kakel who emigrated to London from Germany in the 1800's was a baker and I have seen reference to other male Kakels in other sources who were as well. I'm wondering if a family of male Kakel/Kachels - who were bakers by trade - left Germany for England or the USA during the 1800s.
