August Kachur, born about 1854

I've just discovered that my great-grandfather changed our family name from Kachur to Cochran after he emigrated to the states in late 1871 ... and settled in La Porte, Ind. He came from Prussia ... Specifically Posen (now Poznan, inside Poland).

I'd love to hear from any other Kachurs out there ... both about any connections to my family or general info about the name (how it's pronounced by folks here in the States, where it comes from, etc.)

I have found an Alex or Alexander Kachur and his family, also from Prussia (brother Nicodemus, son Albert) listed in La Porte at the same time as my great-grandfather.

Alex and Nicodemus are the right ages to be my great-grandfather's brothers, but I'm not sure if there's a connection.

JC

Paul KACHUR (b.July 13, 1888 d.Feb 1971)

I am a student at the University of Connecticut and am currentlt taking a genealogy class.

I am researching my great grandfather, PAUL KACHUR. He was born July 13, 1888 in eastern or central Europe. I am not sure when he immigrated to the United States, but I know that it was before 1927 (the year my grandmother was born).

When he arrived in the United States he may have lived in New Jersey a few years before settling in Central City, Pennsylvania in Somerset County. Here he worked in the coal mines.

He married Mary Malanke (spelling?) and together they had ten children. These were Helen, Katie, Anna (my grandmother b. Aug 1927), Mary, Eva, Mitro, John, Charlie, Frank, and George. These are not in age order.

Paul died in February of 1971 in Central City, PA.

Any information regarding him would be greatly appeciated.

Kelly Miller

Researching Kachur, Malanke(sp), Maslow, Price, Miller

Pierdzioch

Do you know your grandparents' names? My ggrandfather, Josef Pierdzioch, had a nephew named Franz, born in about 1884, in Poland. He immigrated to the US in 1892, and came to Milwaukee. For some reason, the name Gilbert rings a bell. Franz/Frank's parents names were Mary and Johan(Jochan?). Any information you may have on the Pierdzioch family would be very useful to me - please let me know if you have anything.

Wilhelm/William Kachur died 1904 Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Need parents and birth information for Wilhelm Kachur. I believe he was born about 1858 in Prussia. Wilhelm (William in U.S.) married Rosa Pierdzioch on 25 Sept. 1883 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. They had 8 children: John (b. 1884); William C. (b. 1886); Frank (b. 1887); George (b. 1892); Paul (b. 189?); Joseph (b. 1895/6); Martha (b. 1897) and Agatha (b. 1903). Believe all children born in Oshkosh except Agatha. Would like to correspond with anyone researching Kachur surname by e-mail or regular mail (PO Box 1054, Land O' Lakes, WI 54540).
