My name in Mike Salch and I just got on Ancestry here for the first time (Nov 2011.) My father was Francis G. Salch, a brother to Marge Salch who was Norma Kagel's moher. As a very young child, a vaguely remember Norma, Marge and Melvin Gaisford(Norma's parents) when they lived over on Oakland Ave. This was about 1950-1955.

I am very interested in Norma and Marge (Norma's mom.)

I am at MichaelSalch@MSN.com

Thanks

I am a a first cousin to Norma Jean Kagel, daughter of L.W.(Ted) Gaisford and granddaughter of Jay and Nellie Gantt Gaisford. I received some information from Donna Eilts of Minonk regarding the Guy, Gantt, Pickard and Gaisford families. I do have a photo of the William Guy family reunion with my Grandfather, Jay Gaisford as a young man with his aunts, uncles, cousins and mother, Anna Guy. For some reason William Gaisford is not in this family portrait. I do not have a photo of Jay even though it seems that my father did have one at some time. I would love to have the information on the Gaisfords which Cindy Pickard says she has.
Linda Gaisford Callison

I am new to this and only have old hand written charts done by my parents. I have read your other notes.

Charlie and Johanna Kagels were siblings and married siblings Minnie (Frederickha) and William Gelis. Charlie and Minnie had about 10 children. Known ones are Charlie, Frank, Albert, Ted, Minnie and Ida. Ida married Walt McParlin - bo They had three children, Norma Jean Wahl, Leona, and Walter Jr. who married Jean and they had three children, Laurie, A.W. and Peter. Minnie married Henry Berg and they had three children Dorothy m. Warren Marshall, Ruth m. Robert Peterson and Henry.

The elder William Gelis who married Johanna Kagels had 4 siblings, John, Mary Kluth, Kate Schomberg and another daughter who married someone named Krause.

William Gelis (b.5 Dec. 1879, d. 2 Jan, 1922) was a Chicago fireman and was killed in a false fire alarm when two fire engines collided. His widow was Fanchion (Fannie) Brixel. His father was Wm. H. Kagels and his mother Johanna. He is buried at Forest Home Cemetery in Chicago. He had two daughters, Adele Gelis (b. 20 July 1915) m. Jefferson Kirkpatrick and Nathalie Gelis m. Alfred Wulff. Nathalie survives. William Gelis was my grandfather's brother.

William Gelis' parents were Willaim Gelis and Johanna Kagels. They also had 4 other children - Alice Gelis m. Albert Eeles, Harry Gelis (my grandfather) m. Bertha Burkhardt, Ann Gelis m. Arthur Sproul and Charles.

I do have one copy of the Staack, Schaumburg, Gelis newsletter from the summer of 1984. I would be glad to share it. It is confusing as so many individuals were given the same family names.

To help you, I hope, my Grandfather, Harry C. Gelis' parents were William Henry (b. 9 Jan 1850 d. 12 Oct 1928) was married to Johanna. He was a carpenter and his father was August Gelis born in Hesse, Germany and his mother was Dorothea. William Henry is buried at Concordia.

Most of the notes come from Waldheim Cemetery, Concordia, Graceland, Dunning and St. Joseph Cemetery.

Hope this helps and doesn't confuse you.

I am a distant cousin. (A 4th cousin according to my family tree software program.) I have quite a bit of information on the Gaisford clan. I would love to pass on the information that I have collected over the years if you are interested. I have been able to trace back to your great great great great grandparents, Charles Gaisford and Rachel (Cogswell) Gaisford. There were quite a few Gaisfords and Cogswells from Wiltshire, England, where they lived. I do have added information about Rachel (Cogswell) Gaisford's parents, grandparents, and great grandparents, but I'm not sure on the authenticity of that information.

I would love to have you check the information that I have on your branch of the family to see if you have any added information or corrections. I will send that to you directly by e-mail. Also, do you have any old pictures of your great grandfather, Jay Gaisford, or his parents, William Gaisford and Anne (Guy) Gaisford?

Cindy

It may be that a Gelis brother and sister married a Kagels sister and brother.

I have found the 22 May 1876 marriage at Chicago's St. Matthew's German Evangelical Lutheran Church of William Gelis (the brother of Henrietta Gelis) to Johana Kagels (was she the sister of the Charles Kagels, who married Henrietta Gelis?).

So I am definitely interested to hear from anyone researching either of these lines.

Charles Kagels-Henrietta Gelis Married Chicago 1879

I am researching the GELIS family in Chicago, and one daughter Henrietta GELIS (also known as Louise GELIS or Louisa GELIS) married Charles KAGELS in Chicago on 26 Oct 1879 at Immanuels Church (Lutheran / Evangelical) -- marriage performed by Rev. Louis Hoelter. She was 21 and he was 25 and they both resided in Chicago.

I have no record of them beyond this, except for a mention of them in the probate records of her parents in 1891, which give no further information.

So if you have any information on them or are a descendant of them, I would very much like to hear from you.
