dear darell,it was a fast reply.however,i'm born in 1943 at birkenbringhausen,my mothers maiden name was schwebel, her mothers maiden
name was maria kahl and she had 6 sisters
all of them married in birkenbringhausen,so
there are a lot of kahls living there.
birkenbringhausen has just finnished its
750 years anniversery,with a large festivity,
one activity to this was to publish a book
of history to birkenbringhausen.in this book
(unfortunenate written in german) all the
names and housenames are describted.the housenames were more important as the family
names itselfes, because there were many kahls
or kahlers or schreck or bilse.for example
the brother of the pub-owner bilse, was called
ecke-bilse,to name it and not to be mixed up
with the other bilse.one of the kahl family
was named schmiede-kahl,he was running the
200 years old blacksmith.if you are interested i could order you the book and you
can find your now-a days relatives easily.
also there is an research made from one of the vicars of birkenbringhausen, named pfarrer
wiegand, from bottendorf-parish.i have to contact my cousin which is the son of the
blacksmith-kahl and search for it.
by the way there is some relatives from the
kahl family in the usa, emmigrated in the early 1920,they run a bakery in pennsilvania.
i don't know where.
