Hello Kahrs cousins.
My grandmother was a Kahrs from Bergen, Norway.
The family origins go back to the 1600s in Bremen, Germany vicinity. Bremen is west of Hamburg in the northern part of Germany. Can't say much more than that... the info I have is in Norwegian but keep reading below...
The eldest known Progenitors:
JOHAN & MARGRETE (HUNEKEN)-KAHRS [double dots over the 'u'].
Johan b:circa 1642 d:1707 (Kuhstedt),
Margrete b:1646 (Kuhstedt) d:1705.
They appear to have had six children: DITMAR KAHRS, ALHEIT KAHRS, LUDER KAHRS, METTE KAHRS, ANNE MARGRETHE KAHRS, and JOHAN CHRISTOPHER KAHRS.
"Stamtavle over Familien Kahrs", by Thora Sollied f.Kahrs, 1923.
A family member did a genealogy in 1923 on the lines of the TWO brothers, Ditmar & Luder, who moved to Bergen, Norway circa 1740s during the Hanseatic League reign. The book is all in Norwegian..
1) A fellow shirttail-cousin has started to scan the book onto a website (
www.kahrs.net)
There are atleast 5 pages and one even shows a family seal/crest! NOTEs: the site is ".net" not .com... and a couple tips if you look at the scanned pages.... f.=born, [cross]=died, gift=married, and barn=children.

I am having trouble bringing up this website today... so cannot give you the above gentlemans last name ... He is listed as owning the book on this website and will do look ups... it is in Norwegian. Keep checking the site out. (I too have the book but have loaned it out to a family member so cannot do any lookups for you....)
Mid-late 1800s my great grandfather sailed the great lakes and eventually settled in Iowa... but he had a brother that fought and died in the Civil war and another that settled in Washington State and there were other siblings and cousins that came to America. I suggest checking out that Kahrs website!
Have fun cousins!!! Lynne
