My great-grandmother was married to a Capt Kahrs in Bergen Norway which is where my mother Gerd Evelyn Mathilde Weiss Kahrs Grunkorn Andersen Johnson lived with her grandmother until she emigrated to Bay Ridge Brooklyn (Little Norway then) when she was 7 (80 years ago). We visited Bergen a few years ago and the Kahrs family crest hangs over the entrance to a beautiful old age home with an architectural award winning addition within walking distance. All the pictures of ancestors that we had hanging in the home where I grew up were hanging there too. Apparently it was the first foundation in Norway and originally created for the wives of lost sea captains. My grandmother divorced him (philanderer) but I'll find out his name and report back.
