My great grandmother Gerda was married to a Capt Kahrs in Bergen Norway. They had a daughter (my grandmother) Mathilda Kahrs who went to boarding school outside of Hamburg. My mother, Gerd Evelyn Mathilde Weiss Kahrs Grunkorn Andersen Johnson, lived in Bergen until she was 7 (80 years ago) and emigrated with her mother to Bay Ridge Brooklyn which was then known as Little Norway. My mother and I visited Bergen a few years ago and the Kahrs family crest hangs over a beautiful old age home with an architectural award winning addition in walking distance to the harbor, The ancestral photographs that hung in the home I grew up in also hang in the entrance to this building. Apparently it was the first foundation in Norway and it was originally for the wives of lost sea captains.
