Hi Chantal,
How many more children did Hattie have with Sam Akau . I wish my mom was still alive so i could share this info with her. As far as i was told granny neva talked about her mom much or about any family for that matter. We were told that she had a hard life, her parents sent her away to boarding school and her dad died young. i hope we can connect the info we share . Her dad was Lupea Simeona and on her b/c had hawaiian then it was crossed out...shows hwn/ caucasion

Hi Chantal, You n I both are searching for answers, not only for ourselves but for our children, cousins, uncles and aunties. I know little of grandma Hattie's family history. I did hear tho that she had a child with Akau but didn't hear that she had more.. She was born Hattie Kaipoahi Simeona..abt 1918-1919. I have been trying to do research but always came to a short end. Are you related to Kalapana Keliihoomalu?

Beverly

Hi!
I am looking for ancestral information for Hattie Kaipoahi Simeona. She is the biological mother of my mother-in-law--therefore she is the great-grandmother of my children. my mother-in-law was the youngest of several children from Hattie born from Samuel Akau (the china man apparently there was one daugter from the Japani also) --Hattie left these children and they were Hanai'd out individually--from what I understand Hattie later married David Mahiai on Molokai and had like 18 kids or something. My mother-in-law had one or two brief encounters with Hattie several decades ago and has never sought connection with any of that family. But I would like to know names and heritage for my families sake. Hattie's ethnicity is listed on my mother-in-law's birth certificate as "Hawaiian Chinese Caucasion" does anybody know what type of "Caucasion"? or what ethnicity "Simeona" is??

Aloha! My mother, Mary Jane Young is the daughter of Daisy Kaleohano, my grandmother, your great grandaunty. We are cousins! It was so nice to see this in the net. My mother told me many years ago of her Uncle Hawila, my great granduncle. It is so nice to connect with blood. I went to the family reunion back in the 80's (or was it 90's) in Kona, It was terrific! I gave my baby boy the middle name of Kaleohano. Aloha and mahalo for your blog. Take care

Aloha James - This is a VERY LATE reply to your post on June 20, 2000 on rootsweb.com. I hope this message is sent via email otherwise this post will sit dormant for who knows how long since your original post is so old.

I have a Pahukula and 'Ohue in my genealogy on 'Ohue's side. IF this is the same family, her father is Limahana (around 1790) and she was born around 1810 to 1820 in Keauhou, Kona. She has siblings Luma'awe (k), Kua'ana (k) (my line), Wahinemaikai, Ikaika, & Puakala (w). I show that she had children Makaimoku (w), Kealoha (k) and Kahaiali (k). Ikaika, Luma'awe, Kamahalo and Limahana had Mahele lands in Holualoa, Kona where I currently live.

If same family, and it must be since we have three names in common (Pahakula, 'Ohue, Makaimoku)although spelled slightly different, we are related. By now you probably have a lot of info and I certainly would like to share so email me back at kahooilokane@yahoo.com.
I just found this message board, I hope I am not too late contacting you. My wife's great-gandmother was Hattie Kaleohano of Waihee, Maui. She was married to a Chinese merchant named Ah Hu Ching. She was killed in a carriage accident on the Waihee Road in 1905. I got this much from the newspaper archives a few years ago. We located her grave and her husband's grave in the Chinese cemetary of Waihee Road. Her son, William Ching was my wifes grandfather. I was told she was called 'Big' Hattie and had a younger sister known as "Little" Hattie. We do have a photograph of her. That's all I know. If you know of a connection, please contact me.

Re: Kealaiki Family

The reason there are so many dead-ends for the Kealaiki line is that we really aren't Kealaiki's by blood. My Aunt, Evangeline or Aunty Tita as we like to call her, Chrissy's mother, told us that my Great-great grandfather was hanai (Hawaiian form of adoption) into the Kealaiki family. Aunty Tita has tracked down the true name of our family which is 'Pai', a family from the fishing town of Minoli'i. I'm sure aunty Tita or Chrissy have information on this. I was shocked as well to hear it but now the road doesn't end, it gets longer and the search can begin again. Hope this helps.

BJ Kealaiki

Hi Jimmy
You know my great grandfather was named George
Kaleohano. I think he came from Kauai. I'll have
to ask my sister. She's the historian in the family.
I believe sometime in the 90's the Kaleohano's had
a reunion on the big island. My family from Molokai
had gone to it. My dad was still alive at that time.
I think my grandmother's sisters were there. I don't
know them so I can't tell you what their names
are. I'll have to ask my sister to send me the information.
Keep in touch.

Aloha

Pauline

Hello Pauline!
It's great to hear from you! My second cousin , who lives in Utah, has recently sent me some genealogy
on the Kealaiki side of our family. Unfortunately there is a lot of holes that we need to fill up. As soon
as I get it all together( hopefully soon!) I will pass it on you. I just sent your niece, Christina , an e-mail
and hope to hear from her soon. Also we are sorry to hear of your mother's passing, I know how hard it can be with
my grandmother passing away in January.
Thanks for the help!
Tina Kealaiki

Hi Tina

Well I just returned from Hawaii. This makes
the fourth trip this year! Unfortunately my mom
passed away. Other than the first trip, the rest
were all for emergencies. I've been talking with
my sister about the family geneology. She does quite
a bit of research. She's been going to the Bishop
Museum for information. She has a picture of our great
grandfather and great grandmother on the Kaleohano side.
Our great grandmother was a Wentworth. My sister's still
doing more research and will let me know what she finds.
On the Kealaiki's side,it's difficult to find anything. It's
true there's not too many of them. My dad's youngest uncle (William)
passed away, I think it was in 1987. I got to meet him in
1982. My dad looked like him. As I get more information on
the family, I'll let you know. I got my niece interested in
geneology. Her name is Chrissy Kelly. You may hear from
her too. She lives on Molokai. Well, let me hear from you
when you have time.

Cousin Pauline

My father is now Alden James Kaleohano but was Alden James Roberts until he got out of military and had his last name changed to his mother's maiden name (kaleohano). My dad has 3 brothers, one of which still carries the Roberts last name. My father and my uncle Jimmy (Roberts) were adopted when they were young by the Roberts. My grandmother was Mary Kaleohano.

Aloha Pauline
My husband has told me many stories about the people you mentioned in your message.
He used to live with Aunty Louisa in '76 when she lived in California. We are sorry to
hear of your dad's passing. Your uncle Abe that you mentioned is my husbands father. We got to see him
last year when he came to our wedding here in Idaho. My husbands parents are divorced and his father lives
in California and his mother in Oregon. Also the Kealaiki's that you mentioned that where living in Hawaii
is his brothers....David and Darell. I keep telling him that I want to go there for a vaction but I still
haven't convinced him to go yet....but I'm going to keep trying until he says yes! Do you have a family tree
of your side of the family? I have a second cousin in Utah looking for one but he has not turned up much.
Must go....have to work again soon. Please keep in touch.
Gordon Tina Kealaiki
