I'm trying to find more information on Johanna Petterson nee Kalis.
According to my family history, which is extremely sketchy and unreliable, Johanna (last name uncertain) was adopted by the Salida(s) family in Simon's Town (where either her mother or adoptive mother owned a wash house that was successful enough to enable her to buy the Lord Nelson Inn / Hotel).
Johanna married a Mr. Petterson (first name unknown) by whom they had at least three children: Gertrude Elizabeth Hampshire nee Petterson, Margaret Martha Eagles nee Petterson, and Charles Petterson.
Mr. Petterson allegedly died c.1912 in Kalk Bay during a regatta accident, though I have yet to confirm this information.
I have since come across a gravestone for a Johanna Petterson nee Kalis (b. circa 1860 - d. 5 Oct. 1936) in Maitland which might be the woman I'm looking for - http://www.egssa.org/library/main.php?g2_itemId=589733
; were it not for Henry Edward Petterson having died in Johannesburg, rather than Kalk Bay, I could be more certain.
If anyone has any more information on this family it would be greatly appreciated.
