Edwin was born on Nov. 2, 1914, in the town of Angelica, the son of the late Ernest and Martha (Kroening) Kallies.
He attended Zion Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed.
On April 27, 1935, he was united in marriage to Gertrude Wagner at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel. Together the couple farmed for many years.
In 1949, they purchased a farm in the town of Green Valley where they lived until 1967 when they purchased a home in Shawano. Edwin started working for the Shawano County Highway Department until 1980 when he retired. Gertrude preceded him in death on Sept. 30, 1988.
After retirement Edwin cared for many lawns in the Shawano area. He took great pride in a beautiful lawn and beautiful flowers, especially roses. Ed enjoyed fishing and berry picking and gardening. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church of Shawano where he was an usher for many Sunday morning services.
