I have found one source that said Gustavus Kanester came here from Hamburg, Germany in 1845. He probably was accompanied by one or two brothers. Others vary, but he was German. There are coats of arms for Kanesters, Kaneasters, etc. He and many descendants married Scotch-Irish wives, so that is where that bloodline comes in. My line is Gustavus, John Henry, Reuben, who married Perlina Henderson (Scottish) and was one of the first settlers in what became Polk Co. TN after coming to TN from Virginia at the age of six. Either John Henry or Gustavus married a McDonald.
