It.s been awhile since I've done research on the family, and will try to find my notes.

My Great Grandfather was George Washington Kaneaster, born I, I believe in Dalton, Georgi, or near What is now Branson, MO on Feb 21, 1870. This was about the same time his dad, Alexander Kaneaster, and mom moved to Mo.
Alexander's dad was Sylvanus - if my records are correct, and his dad was John. I think John was originally from Sevier Co. Tenn. I know he lived well into his 80's.

After the war, There was a brother that moved to Arkansas and another that moved to TX. Whether they moved at the same time I do not know.

I have heard that the brother that moved to TX rode cattle for awhile, and eventually settled in Brownsville, TX. He started his own Candy shop called Kaneaster's Candy Kitchen. Based on a letter I received years ago, that shop closed in to 30's after his death.

We haveonly encountered a few other Kaneaster's outside of our direct lineage.

There is a story that one of the Kaneaster's, prior to the war, had a wife, Mother-in-Law, and kids who ran off with some Mormon Missionarys.

I believe his name was Reuben Kaneaster.

A few months later when theze missionaries returned, they were tarred and feathered. One of them ended up getting shot. However it was never substantiated whether Reuben was there or not. Refernce Dalton Newspaper for this info.

This was at about the time that the Govenor of GA had placed a personal Bounty on any Mormon Missionary killed in the state.

Obviously this would be illegal today, and even though the Federal Attorney General's office was contacted by the Mormon Representatives to put a stop to this, the AG's official reply was that was basically a State's Rights situation and the Federal Gov had no jusrisdiction.

I do know that there is a branch of the family that is Mormon, but I don't know their history.

Just in case anyone is offended, this is not an anti-Mormon statement I am making. This is what I have found in my research with reliable and bonifiable documentation.

I know that Sylvanus had quite a few kids, and I believe i also have a copy of his will.

My Family Line in Brief is

John Kaneaster (B: TN, D: GA) - Sylvanus Kaneaster (B:TN?GA?, D: GA) - Alexander(B:GA, D:MO) - George(B:MO or GA, D: D: MO ~1926) - Samuel (B: Taney Co, MO Aug 12, 1901, D: Ozark, MO Nov 1999) - Charles M (B: Branson Mo 9/19/31, D: Ft Worth TX 06/05/2001)

I would sure love to know more about the Kaneasters who fought in Civil War
