There are lots of Kaneys in the USA and as you can see most of them have Irish ancestry. There are a smaller number which have German ancestry, and who spell their name in one of the 4 ways shown above. The original spelling in Germany was KAEHNY or KAEHNI (pronounced KAY-nee), and all of these families originated in a small area of southern Baden near the village of Adelhausen. There are concentrations of descendants in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Nebraska and possibly several other areas, and there is an historian in Adelhausen who has a list of Kaehny emigrants, one of whom may be your ancestor.
