KANEY, KAEHNY, KAHNY, KAHNEY

There are lots of Kaneys in the USA and as you can see most of them have Irish ancestry. There are a smaller number which have German ancestry, and who spell their name in one of the 4 ways shown above. The original spelling in Germany was KAEHNY or KAEHNI (pronounced KAY-nee), and all of these families originated in a small area of southern Baden near the village of Adelhausen. If you think you belong to this group I would be happy to hear from you. There are concentrations of descendants in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Nebraska and possibly several other areas, and there is an historian in Adelhausen who has a list of Kaehny emigrants, one of whom may be your ancestor. He would like to make contact with as many of us as possible in hope of constructing one big family tree.

Kaney Family

Hi Folks ... And particularly to Linda whom I have spoken with before. I've been reading your messages on the Kaney family. I am also a member of the Kaney family, only not from South Carolina, but from New Jersey. Michael Kaney and his wife Mary Cancannon arrived from Ireland to settle in Bradevelt in Monmouth County, New Jersey, in approximately 1848. I would be interested in any info anyone may have about a Kaney prior to entry into the U.S. I have not been able to find a Kaney currently listed in Ireland, perhaps the original name was corrupted upon arrival here and was changed to Kaney.
Best wishes

Anyone have information on Stephen Kaney s/o James M. Kaney and Elizabeth Narcissa Redd? I believe I've found him living in Wadley, Jefferson Co., GA in the 1880 census. A Stephen Kaney is listed with a Louisa, Willie, and James. His parents birth locations are Ireland and South Carolina. You can also find a Robert Kaney listed on the same census page.
His parents birth locations are the same as Stephen's. Robert is listed with Emily, James, and Lucy. Stephen and Robert are listed as mill hands. I'd like for someone to confirm this information and share anything they might know about the Kaney line.

Thanks
Melissa

Hello Cousins!

Hi All,

I'm interested in getting some info on the
Kaney family tree. Some of you like me are
descended from James Michael Kaney b. 1812
in Ireland. I knew, even before reading
the threads in this forum, that several of
you have done extensive work on this Kaney
line. Is there a GEDCOM file I could get
of the work already done?

Thanks,

Bob

Kaney's from Sauk Co., WI

I'm trying to trace my husband's family. His great grandmother was Elizabeth "Eliza" Kaney Mears (12/17/1865-10/7/1932). She and her husband, Martin Mears raised 7 children in Sauk Co. It is believed that Elizabeth Kaney's parents might have been Ann McGuire and James or Jacob Kaney. Elizabeth and Martin Mears are buried by St. Patrick's church in the Loretto cemetery in Sauk Co.

I have pics of the headstones of all the Kaney's buried in this particular cemetery (taken in the hopes that some will turn out to be relation!):

Florence A. Kaney 1884-1952
Frank Kaney 1853-1935
Ann Kaney 1854-1904
James Kaney 1860-1937
Willie Kaney 1868-1935
Hannah L. Kaney 1889-1974
James E. Kaney 1880-1969
John F. Kaney 1924-1924
Mary Phalen Kaney? 1884-1968
John Kaney 1886-1955
Leo Kaney 1892-????
Kathryn Kaney 1882-1961
Margaret Kaney 1875-1919

Are there any cousins out there?
