Hi bpkaney, My name is Gavin and I'm a descendant of the Kaney family from South Carolina. I've been doing a lot research on the Kaney family. I have come across where the Kaney surname is found in Oklahoma and within the Chickasaw Nation. I wanted to correspond with you and see if you may be able to help me in my research on the Kaney family. Any information you may have on the Kaney family in Oklahoma, I would be very thankful if you could help me. Thanks, Gavin.

Dear Bollingers 1985, I am just finding your reply to my post on Ancestry.com about the KAEHNY surname. Sorry that a family crisis intervened but now trying to catch up. I assume you have seen my file on Rootsweb containing all my data on Seraphin KAEHNI and his many descendants. My ancestor Anton Kaehni was a somewhat distant relative-maybe 3rd or 4th cousin to Seraphin, but they both emigrated from the same village in Baden and settled in Pennsylvania. I have some anecdotal evidence that Anton might have traveled down from Sullivan county to visit Seraphin and family in Perry county. Anyway, I was happy to hear from you, and I intend to add your Bollinger data to my Rootsweb file, if you do not object. I would be most grateful also for any other data you might have on this line. My cousin in Germany is interested in collecting information on each and every family that emigrated from his parish to the USA, and particularly in identifying living descendants if any exist. He is writing a book containing all this information, and he will be happy to hear that there are other living descendants from this line, which is rather enormous. I am happy to compare data with you at any time, tho it has been several years since I have done any work on this particular line of Kaehnis.

Hi Karla, Thank you for responding back to me. Who was Michael Dennis Kaney's father? I descend down from James Michael Kaney who came from Ireland and married Ocief's daughter, Elizabeth Narcissa Redd then from their son Steven William Kaney, then Tom Kaney and then my Grandmother Leone Kaney who married my Granddaddy Owen Herrin. Was Jefferson Boregard Redd the son of John Redd and Ocief? Also, Do you have any information on Ocief? Sorry for all the questions. I'm just trying to find info. Thank You again, Gavin

James Michael Kaney was born January 7, 1812 in Ireland. The county is not known at this time. He died June 11, 1882 in Windsor, South Carolina. Windsor was once a township of Barnwell District / County but is now a part of Aiken County. Family lore says that James Michael Kaney married 3 times. His 1st wife died in Ireland, perhaps doing childbirth. The children were given to relatives to raise. James never returned to Ireland for his children. His 2nd marriage was to Elizabeth Naricissa Redd, born March 29, 1829 in Barnwell District, S. C. She died in Dec. 7, 1857 in Barnwell District, while giving birth to her son, Frank Kaney. Frank was raised by James Michael Kaney's 3rd. wife, Caroline Ann Renew / Kaney, dau. of Archibald James Renew Sr. & Susan (maiden name unknown). It is possible , that James Michael Kaney had a brother by the name of Patrick Henry Kaney. No proof has been found at this time. As for the name, "Joseph Kaney," no information has been found to connect to either family. The name "Kaney" is to have been said to have been "O'Kaney," but the letter "O" was dropped shortly after the family arrived in America. If you would like more information on these families and others, please contact me via e-mail or call me at 865-983-6317. I will be happy to share information. Ken Renau

From what I have it looks like Levi S. Kahney came from Sylvester Kahney and Sarah Noss. And the parents of Sylvester were Serapin Kahney and Mary Ursula "Moriah" Eucker. I hope this helps. If this info goes with what you have, please let me know.
Hope to hear from you soon, Cindy

Hi John,
I also have been away from my research for a while, but I want to get back into it again and get more completed. My great-grandmother was Florence Agnes Kahney (the oldest child of Levi and Mary Kahney) who married Freeman Fasold Krieger. I have a few pictures, but would love to see anything that you have. I am getting my scanner hooked up at home, so I should be able to send you some pictures soon. My email address is: cgable@utsa.edu if you want to contact me directly. Glad to hear from you -- welcome to the family!!!!

Hi Melissa, My name is Gavin and I am looking for information on John Redd and his wife Ocief that was in the Barnwell Co. S.C. area in the early 1800's. John and Ocief are my 4th Grt Grandparents. Their daughter Elizabeth Narcissa Redd/Red married my 3rd Grt Grandfather James Michael Kaney. I have been told by my Kaney side of the family that Ocief was Native American. I was wondering if there was a connection to your Ada Redd. I am searching for information on what tribe Ocief descended from and when and where was she born and where is she buried at. Please, If you have any information, I would be so greatful.
Hi Gavin,
I am not sure how, but we are cousins. Ada Paulene Redd was my great grandmother. She was indian from what I've been told. Ada married Michael Dennis Kaney I believe. I think Ada's father was Jefferson Boregard Redd and that would be the lineage you are looking for about Ocief. I have some paperwork on the Kaney family if you would like to see it. If i can be of any help, please don't hesitate to contact me at the above email address.
Karla Kaney

There are lots of Kaneys in the USA and as you can see most of them have Irish ancestry. There are a smaller number which have German ancestry, and who spell their name in one of the 4 ways shown above. The original spelling in Germany was KAEHNY or KAEHNI (pronounced KAY-nee), and all of these families originated in a small area of southern Baden near the village of Adelhausen. If you think you belong to this group I would be happy to hear from you. There are concentrations of descendants in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Nebraska and possibly several other areas, and there is an historian in Adelhausen who has a list of Kaehny emigrants, one of whom may be your ancestor. He would like to make contact with as many of us as possible in hope of constructing one big family tree.

Hi Ken. Just wanted to check in and say hello. Sorry that I haven't been in contact lately. My great grandmother on my fathers side is doing pretty bad. She just turned 101 and her nurses seem to think she is slowly passing. This has been going on for the past year. Plus my daughter just started kindergarten. I haven't had much time to do any research. Have you had any updates on the Kaney line? I posted a message about Stephen and Robert Kaney sons of James M. Kaney and Elizabeth Narcissa Redd. I think I've found them living in Wadley, Jefferson Co., Ga in the 1880 census. Both are listed as mill hands. Their parents birth locations are listed as Ireland and South Carolina. Could this be the same Kaney's? Looks as if they had to move around for work. I hope you are doing well and look forward to hearing from you.

Melissa

You can also find a Robert Kaney listed on the same census page.
His parents birth locations are the same as Stephen's. Robert is listed with Emily, James, and Lucy.
