Hi, I don't have any information about the origins of Minske but wanted to let you know we are having a Kanne-Marzahn-Minske reunion this summer in Waseca. It's the 14th of July at the United Methodist Church. If you would like a registration form sent to you let me know and I'll give you my email address. We have a bus tour that takes you around to all the old locations, where the three families settled. Which branch are you with? or I should say what letter? We have updated the book with obits and other information. We'd love to have you join us.

The Minskes came from Konigsburg (I should check the spelling in the blue book) and that was in East Prussia when they left. Germany as such did not exist at that time. It is now renamed Chojna and is in Poland.

This is an odd story for which I have no verification. My mother said that one of her uncles (or great uncles perhaps) said he thought they were originally Russian (Belarus) Jews from the town of Minsk. Thus, the name. I tried to check this out but got nowhere.

Sorry I can't help you. Someone along the way added the Marzahn & Minske names to the posts and it's stuck. As far as I know - we don't have any Minske relations in our ancestry.

I've been doing the Kanne Family Tree for many years and have a hugh collection of data, photos, etc... I've been in touch with Bernard and his brother Elliot as well. I've tried sending my file to others in the family, but it's just too hugh for my program to send it. At present I have about 6500 individuals in my files. So what in particular would you like to know?

It's getting to be time for the KMM reunion in 2012 and we'd like to know if you and your aunt would like to volunteer to help, however you would like to.
We are also doing more on the KMM books, trying to update it with places along with the dates. It's frustrating to know a date but not where a person was born or died or married.
If you could help me out on that part I would appreciate it as well. I'll send you a copy of the report when I have it done as best I can.

I would be grateful for information on the specific birthplace of german-born people with surname KANNE. I am trying to locate all immigrant lines with original surname Kähni or Käni and suspect that some Kannes in the USA might have spelled their surname this way originally. All Känis came from the Loerrach district of Baden near Basel, Switzerland.

Heinrich & Marie Kanne - Germany to Pittsburgh

I am looking for information on Heinrich "Henry" Kanne b: abt 1824 Germany and his wife Marie "Mary" Gruenemeyer b: abt 1822 Germany. They immigrated to America in 1854 and lived in Pittsburgh, PA. They had 6 kids: Marie, Matilda, Augusta, Wilhelmina, George, and Sophia. They were Catholic.
I have a lot of information on the children but not much on the parents. If anyone has any additional information I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Mein Name ist Britta Hofmeester (geb. Jung). Ich bin geboren in Moenchengladbach Odenkirchen. Meine Mutter ist eine geb. von Kannen (Eltern; Carl und Hilde von Kannen ). Was ich von meinem Opa zu Lebzeiten gehoert habe, kann es vielleicht sein das Sie der Sohn von Opa`s Bruder sind. Meine Oma lebt noch in Krefeld. Es wuerde mich sehr freuen etwas von Mutters Familie herauszufinden. Ich wuerde mich natuerlich auch sehr auf eine Reaktion von Ihnen freuen.

I'm glad to hear the book is being updated. I missed the reunion this year, much as I'd love to have gone it is just a long ways from Oregon where my branch of the family settled in the early 1900's. I did enjoy the KMM Reunion we attended immensely.

I ran across an obiturary for Henry Kanne from a paper clipping in my great grandmother scrap book. He was 65 years old and says his family is Vincent B., Albin H.,Edwin ., Frank J., Fred H., George C., Joseph L., Rose M., Gertrude A., Emma V. and Marie A. Sorry to say, I don't know anything about Peter except for him being a brother to Henry. Henry married Emma Roberts daughter of Alfred and Mary Roberts. (Emma, was my mother in law's aunt). Their marriage was Henry's second marriage and Emma's first. Henry and Emma lived in Bates County and Kansas City Jackson County Missouri. I would like to chat with someone who has any information about Henry and Emma.

While researching the Leiser family I found a marriage record for Peter Kanne (Kaunee) and Catherine Leiser. Was Peter married twice? His age matches up in the records?

Hello - I am hoping to connect with the extended families of the William and Florentine Wartenberg family. William Hein was born in Germany in 1854, son of Frederick and Wilhelmina Elke Hein. (Frederick and Wilhelmina were my 2nd great grandparents-my great grandfather was August, brother of William.) Wm married Florentine in 1876 and lived on a farm in Stearns County, Minnesota. Their children were Augusta, Melvin, Reuben and Elsie. Augusta married Charles Liebrenz; Melvin married Bertha Voss; Reuben married Emma Kanne; and Elsie married Edwin Manz. That is exciting that you were able to visit the area our ancestors were from. Did you take digital pictures of the area? I'd be curious about the lay of the land and a description.

I just returned from a trip to Belgium, Germany and Poland. I visited the town of Chojna (formerly Konigsburg) where the Minskes, Kannes and Marzahns departed from on their way to America.

Unfortunately, I only had one day (Sunday) and the City Hall and Library weere not open, so I couldn't check for relatives. The few people I encounterd who spoke English didn't know any Kannes, Marzahns or Minskes, and indicated that most of the German residents left when this became part of Poland.

By the way, my mother is Helen Minske Feehan. She passed away about a month ago.

Robert E. Kanne is listed as a grandson with the Upton Hays family in the 1930 Flagstaff, AZ census. He would have been the son of one of Upton's daughters; Mary A. Hays b. 1893 NM, Reina Mercedes Hays b. 1899 or Josephine Hays b. 1903 NM.
Upton Hays lived in Santa Fe, NM in 1920 and there was a large Kanne family there. The 1900 census (Santa Fe, Enum. Dist. 126, P3A) lists them. The head of the family, H. B. Kanne was b. 1854, IL (parents Germany), merchant, and wife Elizabeth Bandelier Kanne, b. 1861, IL (parents Switz) The sons were:
Alfred, 1887 IL; Charley 1888, IL; Henry 1892, NM; Gustave 1894 NM. There were also three daughters and a sister-in-law.
I'm not related to the Kanne's but would like to find the parents of Robert E. Kanne and where he went after 1930.

Children:

Peter b Illinois ~ 1847; Henry b Illinois 13 Oct 1850; Charles b Illinois ~ 1852

Between 1860 and 1870 the family lived in Clinton and Bond counties in Illinois

By 1880 the 3 children's last name was spelled Kaune. In the 1880 census Peter and Henry were living in Bates County Missouri, and Charles in Bond County Illinois.

You do relaize the kanne branch of your family is also that of the presidential candidate Gen. Wes Clark, Benjamin Kanne was his father but died when Wes was 4. Check it our. It's in all his bios on the net.

Do you know Gen. Wesley Kanne Clarke, who's running for President, is your relative? My grandmother is Florence Kanne Ellis, so I think I'm your cousin. Another cousin, Barry Kanne, has been doing a genealogy over the course of a number of years, so I hope he's been in touch with you by now. I'll pass on his e-mail address after I get it. Also, my uncle Jerry (Florence's son) might have some info, so I can give you his number when you e-mail. This is so cool!

Hi, My grandfather Heinrich Christof Kanne(1870-1952) was an older brother to your g-grandfather Herman(1879-1956). He prefered to be known as Henry. Have you gotten hold of one of Leona Kanne Benson's books yet? I have a 1980 edition, not sure if there are recent updates. If you don't have a book, maybe I could fill in some blanks. Let me know. I think perhaps I met your Dad sister at the reunion. Is your father a pastor? I'm visiting my parents in Oregon for the holidays.
I descend from Amelia Minske Burger. She moved to Oregon about 1905 I believe. Settled in the Salem area and had many children whose families still live around the state of Oregon. I grew up on the Oregon Coast and my Dad still farms 10 acres of filberts in the Salem area. At the reunion I was surprised to learn that other relatives had migrated to Oregon as well.

I'd like to know more about you.
I've lived in Omaha NE for 8 years, Iowa for
28 years before that. My parents moved to
Iowa from Oregon when I was two, in 1964.
I believe my great grandfather moved from MN
to Oregon, had two sons, Clarence and
Herman (I think). My dad, William Clarence
Kanne, was son of Clarence. He still lives
in Iowa, and He and my sister Kathy Bolinger
also went to the reunion this year.... their
first time. I would love to go sometime.
