Searching for Martha Kannenberg

Martha Kannenberg was born around 1886. We know she as born in Kirchhayn Wisconsin. Kirchhayn was German settlement. Marthas parents were John Carl Kannenberg and Anna Krasser. John Carl Kannenbergs father was Carl F. Kannenberg, one of the first settlers in Kirchhayn from Germany. Marthas sister is Emma Susanne Josephine Kannenberg born 1888. Martha Kannenbers was last known to be living in New York City and married to a man whose last name is Parker we think his first name may be Harry. I woud be so greatful for any information on Martha Kannenberg. My e-mail address is: daviswerefamous@juno.com

SKannenberg

Hi Andrea, this is Lisa Davis again. Im happy to give you the information you have requested on my Grandma Emma Susanne Josefine Kannenberg. She is my grandmother on my mothers side. Emma was born to John Carl Kannenberg and Amma Krasser in Kirchhayn Wisconsin on Nov. 28 1888. Kirchhayn was a German settlement and Emmas Grandfather, Carl F. Kannenberg (I have one picture of him) was one of the first settlers. They owned alot of land and were farmers. I have more dates and information on Carl and others if you are interested. Emma had a sister, Martha Kannenberg who was born in Kirchhayn also. But I have no other information on her except a beautiful picture of Emma and Martha when they are around 17. My Grandmother Emma lost contact with her sister Martha before they were both married, Grandma always regretted that. Useing Marthas social security number she tracked Martha to New York City and found out she was married to a man with the last name of Parker (we think his first name is Harry). But Grandma Emma never saw her again (so sad). So ofcourse I am keenly interested in any info. you may have on Martha and her family. But, back to Emma. Emma went to school as far as 4th or 6th grade. (I have a picture of her in grade school). She was a maid to a jewish household before she met her husband whom she met at a dance. (Grandpa loved to dance and was a good dancer). Emma and Emil Fredrick Wilhelm Albl were married on June 15, 1912 in Jackson, Washington Wisconsin. Im told that Grandpa rented a buggy with fringe on top for the occashion, which thrilled my Grandmother. (I have wedding pictures). They had 4 children. In order of birth they are: Howard Emil Albl born March 27, 1915. Uncle Howard is still alive with his wife Vera. They are living in Wisconsin. They were unable to have any children. They are a sweet couple. Their second child was Orvilla Emma Albl, born March 26 1919 in Port Washington Wisconsin. Orvilla married Herbers John Wildermuth. Orvilla became a school teacher. They had 3 sons. Orvilla is still alive and living in Wisconsin. The third and four children were twins: Adelin Lillian Albl born Jan. 5, 1926 in Sheboygan Wisconsin. Adeline married Joseph Reichenberger. They had 5 children. I adored Aunt Adeline and Uncle Buddy (Joseph). They have both died. The last child was my mother and Adelines twin sister: Arline Katherine Albl born Jan. 5 1926. Arline married Donald Albert Rhyner and they had two daughter; Linda Sue and Lisa Ann (me). My mother is an angel, one of the kindest hearted persons I have ever been honored to know. We are very close. Now back to Emma Susanne Josephine Kannenberg (Grandma) She was quite shy and very hard workiing. She was very good at cooking and baking, everything from German dishes to doughnuts. She was also and excellent seamstress. She sewed alot of my mothers clothes growing up and some of her formal gowns when my mother was in college. Emma was a well dressed woman, very fashion aware. She loved pretty things and had good taste. She belonged to a few womens clubs, one in which they played cards. I personally have very few memorieds of Grandma Emma because she lived in Wisconsin and I was born and grew up in Calif. The last time I saw her was when I was around 8 years old. She always wore a dress as far as I know. She was a very good woman. I have alot of pictures of her that we recieved upon her death April 19, 1969. Emma was on heart medicine for years. She had a heart attack and ended up in the hospital. While in the hospital she had a second attack and died. Grandpa Albl (her husband) died 7 months later. The family always said he died of a broken heart, he was so lonely after she died. Grandpa Albl (Emil) was a real out doors man. He loved fishing and hunting. He owned severl of his own businesses and ended up in meat business. Grandpas grand children adored him. I have very clear loving memoried of this teddy bear/ Santa Clause man. I worshipped him and so did all the neighbor children! I have more information if you are interested and lots of wonderful picture. Once again, if you have any information on Marth Kannenber I would be so greatful, ive spent hours looking for her. Im glad to have helped you. Take care. And write in at daviswerefamous@juno.com Sincerely, Lisa

The Kannenbergs came to Kirkayn in 1843. Karl Frederick Kannenberg came with his family of 6 boys and 1 girl. Karl is my 3 greatgrandfather, his second son August is my 2 greatgrandfather. At the Wisonsin History Center in Madison on the University campus, they have a book on the 100th aniversary of the David Star Lutheran Church founded by the Old Lutherans that settled there after leaving Kreis Cammin in Pommerania from the town of Kloetzin. It was a nobleman's estate and he was a cow herder on the estate. There is a history of the Old Lutherans also.

She was my great grandmother. She married Carl Mueller and they had 16 children, 14 of whom grew to adulthood. My grandmother was in the middle and named Theresa Lena Albertine.
KANNENBERG - et al - Ueckermunde

I am looking for any connections to my great grandfather's ancestors (which I have already traced back to 1620). He was Karl Robert KANNENBERG, born 28 Oct 1846 - the 7th of nine children (2 died in infancy) to Dr Karl Wilhelm Ludwig KANNENBERG (surgeon and man-midwife) and Karoline Auguste Henriette SORGE - from Stettin (married 9 Oct 1835 in Ueckermunde). I have names and dates for all their children. Dr Karl's father was an apotheke in the town - Johann Karl-Alexander KANNENBERG - he owned the shop where the Adler Apotheke is now situated, - and he also was an innkeeper - it is still situated opposite the apotheke. I have all the male line - names, dates, marriages, etc. but really would like to connect to the female lines so I shall list their names in the hope that there may be someone who can link to them........SORGE (Stettin), SCHULER (Ueckermunde?), PULLBORN, FALCKENBERG, KRUGER and WEGENER. They are assumed to be from the local area if no town given and in some cases their father's names are known. They all married successive KANNENBERG males.
If you think you can connect to these names I can supply further detail (father's name / dates / marriages) if requested.
Thanks - in hope!
Leona

Hello,
I am doing some research on Edward J. and his family for his granddaughter. (it is a hobby for me! and she is a dear friend). I believe you found the family in IL 1910 census. I found them in 1920 in Humboldt County, Iowa. But Lizzie was not listed. Perhaps she married? If so, do you know a last name for her?

Have you gotten any responses about Kannenbergs from Prosen? I have my ggrandparents August Edwin Kannenberg and Wilhelmine Caroline Bottcher both being born in Posen and my grandfather was born in Allentown, PA. Now I have my gggrandfather David Kannenberg being born in Hammermaule, Bromberg, Germany and gggrandmother born in Schmukalle, Bromberg, Posen, Germany. Now I haven't done too much with research in Germany so I'm not sure of what the four places in my gggrandmother's birthplace means. I did at one time contact a cousin, but the address wasn't right for her and it got sent back. This was just after the Berlin wall coming down.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have anything different.
Hello,
My name is Jerzy M.
Long time ago I got cadastre documents which are from 1890 - 1944 about the villiage Wicko(Vietzig) near Lębork( Kreis Lauenburg ). They include many border protocols (Grenzverhandlung ) and cadastre drawings( handriss ). All those files were written there by special official and descibe borders of all parcels. All of them were also sighned by owners of the land, thats why I have signatures of all land owners and officials from Vietzig, and that are:
Dr Kannenberg.
I presume that You might be interested in those documents as they might be a family souvenir. If You are interested in that kind of documents, then write back.

Yours sincerely
Jerzy M.

Thanks for the additional information. My grandfather, Frank Kannenberg, joined my grandmother on her homestead site in Wisconsin after emigrating from Germany in the very early 1900's. I have been informed by a family member that Kannenberg relatives of mine moved from Posen to Berlin in the 1800's.

Thanks, Louetta, for your response. I, too, am looking for answers to these sorts of questions. My mother spent a good bit of time in the early years of the 20th century with her grandmother Kannenberg in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in a home which my ggranfather Kannenberg had built with his own hands about 1870 (It is still there). She related in her writings that the Kannenberg family together with many other Prussians had gone to Posenafter the Polish Partition (by Prussia, Austria, and Russia, I believe. Prussia "opened up" a good bit of land to settlers for farming, etc. Just what this means I don't know, as the area was still overwhelmingly populated by ethnic Poles. Perhaps it was formerly public land or land confiscated from the Polish Crown or aristocracy. But I do know that our Kannenbergs considered themselves to be Prussian. Further, they left Posen for America because they were staunch Lutherans who did not want to raise children in a predominantly Catholic area. Why they chose America rather than returning to Prussia I do not know, unless it was because the latter country had forced a union between Lutheran and Reformed churches. At any rate, they were definitely Prussian and not Austrian or Jewish. The Kannenberg name is not terribly uncommon in Northern Germany even today.
The Kannenbergs in our family were from the Posen area of Germany, now Poland. Michael Kannenberg was born at Skuranzewcke on April 12, 1819. This is near Koronowa, Posen. His son, Friedrich August, was born Fanuary 15, 1823 at Mrotschen (Kr. Wirsitz), West Prussia. Friedrich came to America in mid nineteenth century, and in 1880 built a house which still stands in Ann Arbor, MI. His wife was Rosalia Hintz (or Hinz), born October 3, 1831, near Koronowa/Bromberg, Posen.

Hey, Pat! I agree a lot has happened since we talked last. On 16 Oct 2006 we had an attic fire, we didn't lose much, but have been having to redo some records that got soaked when the brillant fire department soaked my living room. :-)
Glad to hear you remarried. I will need to add your new last name to my info.
It has been awhile since I talked to Jim. The last time I wrote he said life was going too fast for him to get back into genealogy. :-)
Let me know what's going on!!

Pat,

Yes, I have several additions to the family. Do we exchange info here or should we do it privately. I haven't gotten an email from Jim in over two years. The last time he emailed me he said he had to put it aside because life was too busy at that time.
On GG August Edwin Kannenberg, I have his parents and other family members. I had contacted a cousin, at the time in Yugoslavia, and she said she knew that there were several brothers, but wasn't sure of how many. She also knew of two brothers that went to the USA. One was Edward and the other was August. I tried to send a response back but it got returned. I wish I could find her again. She also told me that she had a sister who came to the USA and lived in Texas. She had married and gave me her name, but she also said she had died. :-( I found that August Edwin came to the US in 1890 and settled in PA. Now this is where I lost some of the info with the attic fire. All water damage. I'm glad that I got most of the pics saved to the computer which didn't get wet. :-) The only contact I had made to WI was Jim, so far.
Oh, yes, I would love to see you when you start traveling. Chuck and I haven't gotten back up to Chicago area in over 20 years.
Write soon.
