Hi, good to hear from you. No, I haven't found anything on Schoschneck, but haven't been working on this like I should. :-( I'm excited to actually find someone else looking for Kants. Let me know if I can help you.
Sue(Kant) Ferguson

I don't know if this will be of any help to you or if this is even the same Kant family. I am new to genealogy so bear with me.

Some of my family settled in WI and SD. I was fortunate enough to obtain a book written about my branch of the Kant family. I browsed through to see if I saw any mention of a Krause and I did not. Perhaps you could give me first names and I could try again. My family on can be traced back to Prussia approximately 1820. Beyond that is sketchy.

Tracy (Kant) Kent-Winter

How wonderful to hear from you. I haven't worked on this project in some time but just came back from a visit to WI and felt motivated.

I was lucky enough to get the book from Joanne Runge as well as talk to some close and distant family. I have gotten alot of great info but still have a few branches I would like to know more about. Do you know anything about Great Grandma Pauline's family? I am having quite a time with this. I thought how wonderful to have a nice uncommon name like Schoschneck (or the other spellings) but I experience nothing but road blocks.

Tracy (Kant) Kent-Winter

I am in need of information regarding my Grandfather's familly. His name was Otto Rudolph Kent, but he changed his last name. He had at least 2 brothers, Walter & Carl Kant. I believe my Great Grandfather's name was either WIlliam or Wilhelm Kant but am having difficulty locating the family back further. Otto Kent was from WI as were the 2 brothers. I am not sure where my Great Grandfather was from either.

Any help would be appreciated.
Tracy

Emilia Bahr H. Gerke

Dear Mrs. Spates, I got my information from Meta Schmidt Maas. Her father was Paul Schmidt and her Grandmother Louise was a sister to your Emilia. I will have to get back with you as soon as I can, but I wanted you to know I got your e-mail. Meta died in Hubbard in a home in Jan. 1998 so I don't have her for information but I do have the things she gave me. I have a picture of Grnadmother Gerke and four generations standing outside of Immanuel Lutheran Church in the Heights in the '40's I think. I have all of the names of their brothers and sisters from Meta for you if you don't have them. Meta told me the Bahrs and Schmidts came separately, on top of ship, and one would pay for the next voyage. She said they came on the ship called Alba (Elba?) about 1888 but I cannot find it. She said they landed in New York first but did not like it so much so they caught another ship, the "Vera" and came to Galveston. I wonder if they didn't travel with Emilia and her family through Ellis Island. Do you have any records? Thank you ever so much for answering.

Your cousin

Carol, in Houston
11606 Sagelink Drive

I look forward to meeting you and exchanging information and some pictures. Have a happy 4th of July! Your cousin, Carol

Emilia Bahr Henke Gerke

Dear Carol, How exciting! My husband, Charles, and I have been members of Immanuel since our confirmation in 1953. We actually went to school at Immanuel as well as our daughters and now our grandchildren. The picture that you have was probably taken in front of the old church. I asked my mother-in-law but she didn't remember it but my husband was born in 1938 so I'm sure that they're in the picture. I have none of the information that you mentioned on Emilia. I asked a friend of mine who has been helping me search and she said that the dates you mentioned of their arrival in New York, Ellis Island didn't exist, however the ships actually put in at Castle Garden, NY. She knew the name of the ship, Elbe, and might have some information on the passenger list so maybe between all of us we can make a connection. Her ancestors were Schultze, Eiler, and Geldmacher and also settled in and around Washington County. I would love to exchange what little information I have and also a picture of Emilia and Rudolph Gerke. I believe it was made in Germany and I've actually scanned it in my computer and would be glad to send it direct to you. My husband and I are native Houstonians and live off 290 and 610, My mother-in-law still lives on the street where her father moved them when she was eight years old but not in the old homestead but across the street and three houses down. I would love to meet you and also for you to meet Mom. She's not been too well recently and is on oxygen periodically but still lives by herself. My husband is retires so he looks after her. My work email address is bspates@velaw.com and my home email is bspates@ix.netcom.com and I would love to hear from you.

Regards,
Barbara

Emilia Bahr Henke Gerke

Emilia was my husband's great-grandmother. I haven't been able to find out too much about her because his mother didn't know her maiden name. She was married to a Mr. Henke in Germany, he died, she married Rudolph Gerke and immigrated to America. They're buried just outside of Brenham. My husband's grandmother was born in Germany (Posen, Prussia) by her first marriage and her name was Emma Henke. She married Otto Roesler. Emma was six years old when they arrived in America through Ellis Island. That's about all the information I've been able to obtain. My mother-in-law is 88 years old but still has an extremely clear mind and remembers more than I do. I would appreciate any info that you might have regarding Emilia. Thanks, Barbara Spates
